Against the Giants or an offensively challenged team, I would kick the FG. Against a team like the Bengals, I want as many points as possible.

I don't know how long analytics have been popular. I have always thought going for in on 4th down deep in the opponent's territory was a good decision. I recall in 2013, the Vikings were playing the Bears who had a great offense at the time. They could score fast. The Vikings were up 3 with just over 2min to go. They have 4th and goal on about the 2 or 3 yard line. I said go for it. They went for the FG, bringing them up 6. A TD wins it for the Bears. And of course that is exactly what happened.

(Did you see that? 4th Down TD!!!)

Late in the game I can understand trying to put the game away. But like you said in your first sentence, you want as many points as possible. That doesn’t just mean TD’s. That means the 3’s count too. Getting nothing by going for it doesn’t add to as many points as possible. But I do understand if you’re in close to the goal line in a lot of cases. But early?  Give me all the points. More often than not you end up regretting not taking those points. You put in all that effort moving the ball and leave with nothing. That’s deflating for your team and inflating for the opposition.

I don't agree. But most agree with you. I think as time passes, more people will go for it. A lot of the younger coaches do it (McVay, Pederson, Sirriani, McConnell, and probably a lot of others).

If my team is so close to the goal line, I want a TD. If my team misses, I know that the opponent has to go the length of the field.

I actually feel it makes more sense to go for it early in the game because if you miss it, you have the rest of the game to make up for it. At the end of the game, if you miss it, you may not have another chance. JMO

That’s what Frank and the Colts did a few years ago against the Bills in the playoffs. We didn’t get it. Bills marched 90+ and scored the touchdown and momentum changed the rest of the game.  We could’ve used those 3 points when were marching down 3 to tie instead of to win.

Okay. That will happen sometimes.

Mahomes ankle is really bothering him if he isn’t faking it. He isn’t moving around as much so my guess is it’s really hurting him.

The Eagles defensive line is going to destroy him… they took Purdy out in what? After two snaps or so?

All these teams have so much talent. So many injuries and others are stepping up.

A Vikings fan was a big fan of Pacheco. I had never heard of him. But I don't follow college football anymore. Pacheco was a 7th rounder.

That guy is electric.  KC knows how to draft speed.
