Ventrone Needs To Go!

To watch what was once a top tier Special Teams unit reduced to this is the result of poor coaching of technique and fundamentals. The specialists have all taken a step backwards and we just look outclassed anymore. Bubba clearly doesn’t have this unit ready to go.

You get credit just because you know his name. I had no idea..lol

I thought Russ Purnell was the worst, definitely not.

Never seen so many blocked punts/FG's and botched snaps.

The whole thing needs to be looked at.  Kicking unit was atrocious, punting hasn't been great.  Rigo finally pins someone back and it gets called back for a penalty.

I think Rigo has the leg and we have a couple very good STers (mainly Odum).  I think part of the kicking game earlier in the year was Adam's knee or something to do with him (though there were a few bad snaps).  But yea... outside of a few elite K's and a few elite P's (I don't think Rigo's leg is that far off from being near that group), every ST unit in the league is essentially back-ups.  You'll get a guy like Matthew Slater every once in a while who is just a stud gunner and non-return guy on STs, and you'll get a guy like Devin Hester once in a while who is a once in a generation return guy.  Otherwise, every ST unit in the league should be fairly even when it comes to talent.  The fact our unit has been so bad throughout the year, to me, suggests we are being out-coached in that phase.

So what appears to be surfacing her is with Ballard at the controls the team is not good. Granted their have been injuries but what team has not had them. What the Saints revealed to all last night is the Colts are nowhere near the class of a champion. Ballard was hired for his talent at building a team so he has his work cut out for him. Considering the teams like Baltimore, Kansas City and Houston with their high powered quarterbacks to be a running team does not add up to outscoring those teams. The running last night vs, N.O. was at best pathetic.

The only part of ST that has been good is our return and coverage units. Rigo has been good and that block was not his fault last night. Maybe they could bring someone in that is just a kicking specialist that works on blocking on FG and punts.

So...basically a new ST's coach.

He was the one true “McDaniels hire.” I really do think he’ll be the one possible staff firing if there is one.

I don’t think he’s done much to help the FG situation, since as a player he never had anything to do with that aspect as far as I know. Honestly, I miss Tim McMahon, who had seemingly found a lot of our kickers/punters. Under him we found Badgley, McManus, Parkey, and he was specifically credited for finding Sanchez.

I was wondering when this would come up.

You are talking about Tom McMahon, right? This guy?

We fire the guy and hire Rick Venturi...he seems to know all the answers when you listen to him.  I don't understand why we weren't undefeated and Super Bowl champs when he as the head coach here.

Yeah, he seems to know all the answers: just ask him..
