Mock Draft: Colts Buffalo Trade reaps big dividend

Recommended Posts

In this scenario, both Chubb and Nelson are off the board. Meaning that a top QB remains available. Buffalo pounces, and with what is left, the Colts are a willing trade partner. The Bills trade their two first round picks, # 12 and 22, along with one of their second round picks, #56, and the first pick in the third round, #65. The Colts give them #6 and their 4th round pick, #104.

The Colts now have picks 12, 22, 36, 37, 49, 56, 65, and 67. They make the following selections:

12. Tremaine Edmunds, LB. He slips just a couple of slots and the Colts get a unique player in a serious position of need.

22. Harold Landry, DE. He ain't Chubb, but he's pretty darn good.

36. Billy Price, G. He's not Nelson, but he can play.

37. DJ Moore, WR Future #1 Wide Receiver.

49. Darius Leonard, LB. Colts are suddenly much more talented at LB.

56. Carlton Davis, CB tough hard nosed CB. He's going to play early.

65. Frank Ragnow, C/G He can play either position, and he's another tough hombre who loves to play

67. Rashaad Penny, RB I think he's one of the top 4 RBs in the draft.

Now, I  know people will say the Bills won't part with a haul of picks like this, but they didn't trade up to #12 to pick a linebacker. This is why they stockpiled draft picks. And they will still have a second and third round pick of their own. This makes sense for them, and the Colts take advantage of a unique opportunity to reload their roster.

That's a pretty big haul and then you give me Landry.  I'd love that.

I’d rather trade the 6 for their 12, one of their 2nds, 3rd, and future 1st.

They get to keep their 1st, 2nd, and 4th, but that future 1st could be huge for us if the bills suck next year.

This is what Im hoping for, a possible early first next year would be nice

I just don't see why Buffalo would target number 6 as no one until Miami at pick 11 would need a QB. They could give up far less to move up to 8, 9, or 10.

Buffalo, Miami, Arizona may all covet a certain QB(s)... That uncertainty will lead to a competition to move...if that is moving to the 2nd, 5th, 6th or another top 10 pick...Who knows?

Denver. Unless you really believe Elway would pass due to case keenum. I'm not buying that one.

I might get flak for this but I don't think Landry is a good fit for our 4-3 defense. He is too small and would need to bulk up in order to play as effective 4 down DE in our scheme. Otherwise he would only be a pass-rushing specialist (think Tim Williams from last year). There is no question the guy has some pass-rush abilities but he is probably a better 3-4 OLB then a 4-3 DE. And we all know how much our team loves "scheme-fit" with releasing Hankins and all.

I’m not a fan of the lack of OT.  We need a new right tackle IMO.  Good is serviceable but he’s slow and can get beat.  I’d rather grab McGlinchy at 22 in this situation, guard in the second where price is but someone like Hernandez.  And then Arden Kwy with one of the second.

I get that. At one point I had McGlinchey at 12, and decided that was too high; then at 22, but decided Landry was the better value. In the end, OT lost out to a 2nd LB.

Weren't you saying before that we shouldn't trade with Buffalow?

Nice change of heart though..

No change. I just decided to explore what a Buffalo trade might reap. And I surmised that no one was on the board that the Colts wanted at that point. I still feel that if Nelson or Chubb were there at 6, we take one of them.

There are 4 top QBs this year, Darnold, Rosen, Allen, and Mayfield.  I think Buffalo trades up to #2 and the first three QBs go 1-2-3.

Our most likely partner is MIA, IMO, who reportedly covets Mayfield.  I don't think Denver would select Mayfield to replace Keenum.  It would take a kings ransom for ARIZ to move from 15 to 4 or 5 to take Mayfield, and I don't think he's worth it.

Barring any other moves from teams, I'm thinking MIA will be our most likely trading partner.  They could wait until Mayfield falls to 11, but will have to worry about ARIZ jumping them, so I'm hoping Ballard puts the for sale sign on pick #6 to entice MIA.
