Dispelling a myth

I wanted to take the time, to appreciate our very unique owner. This man lives and breathes Colts. He cares. He gives.

It is repeatedly stated by many respected people, that Mr. Irsay is considered one of the most knowledgeable owners in this league. When he realized that Ryan Grigson and Chuck Pagano were struggling, he did not knee jerk. He didn't try to pacify fans by getting rid of them and moving on. Just the opposite.... he displayed patience, conviction,. and determination by doing everything he could to back those two men. Make no mistake, it is THIS display of Mr. Irsays wise ways in the NFL, that has netted us Chris Ballard and Josh McDaniels.

Andrew Luck is certainly an attractive addition to the opportunity for either of these men to join the Colts organization. But injuries and the following rehabilitation success is never guaranteed. To say...or even to think that it is our QB that is the reason these men chose this team, is to ignore the truth right in front of us all. This is not an owner who has damaged the attractiveness of the best franchise in the NFL, the Colts. In fact, he has displayed strength, fortitude, and inner belief...and in my opinion, has done an outstanding job of putting this team in it's best possible position to succeed.

Thank you Mr. Irsay. You, sir....are the man.

Well, the best GM candidate in the market and the best HC candidate in the market a year later is what we have netted. The proof is in the results. He has been patient, yet made the moves to cut ties with Grigson when he felt it was hurting the team more than helping, and then a year later with Pagano.

Props to our owner, indeed!!!

And Ballard and McDaniels had both been turning down opportunities over the past couple of years waiting for what they felt was the best situation for them and they both chose Irsay and Indy :)

He’s made his mistakes, both professionally and personally, but he has hit it out of the park with the Ballard and McD. hires. The future is very bright.

Thank you for your comment. It appears that the mistakes you referred to, did not dissuade either top candidate from coming here.....thus, did not define for our great owner.

He's a cool owner, not one without his mistakes (who is?) but I digress.

I'm one of the few that thinks he should have canned Grigs/Pags way sooner (after the 2014 AFCCG) but I can't be too mad at where we are now. I just pray that Luck gets healthy, we fix the OL and defense sooner than later. I can see us being a perennial contender for years to come, but the pieces have to come together like the Eagles.

I became a Colts fan when Robert Irsay traded for them (He owned the Rams). That may be something a few of the present Colt fans didn't know?  Plus Robert Irsay only owned 51% of the Colts. The other 49% was owned by Willard Keland. His draft in 1973 netted Bert Jones to be the heir apparent to Johnny Unitas.

Jimmy Irsay as he was known in those days was 12 years old when his father bought the Colts. Other than the time he went to college the Colts have been his entire life.

There is not another owner in the league that has those kind of connections to their team.

He has earned his spot as a great owner by making the mistakes and the accomplishments to where he is at now.

For me, I wouldn't want another owner.

The parallels between the late 70’s early 80’s Baltimore Colts and today’s Indy Colts is getting rather scary. From the Bert Jones- Luck similarities , to individuals spurning the Colts Elway- McDaniels.

I fear you may be right. We could be heading back to the Dark Ages, the 2 decades before Peyton arrived.

Hopefully not. You can always get another coach, but the Luck story is worrisome. I hated seeing Bert Jones career derailed by injury. He was a heck of a QB, as is Luck.

Bert Jones was one of the All Time Greats. A shame he couldn't stay healthy long enough to prove it. My all time favorite player in all sports.

I was speaking to the integrity and vision of Mr. Irsay. The only thing I would change is my feeling about Josh McDaniels, which I would rather not talk about at this time.

I would add that in a comparison of owners between Mr. Irsay and Kraft...especially in light of this...thank goodness we have Mr. Irsay. This change has the smell of disappointing ownership all over it.....and it's not ours....

    • I say 8.  I think the floor is 5 and the ceiling 10.   This will still basically be richardsons rookie year and I think he will still be a little inconsistent. I see him having a season much like stroud did last year.  We are a better team than last year but our schedule is tougher than last year as well. I see us going 8wins 9 losses.
    • There was so much talk last year about part of our success came from a weak schedule plus poor quarterbacks Indy faced.   So I thought I’d show our 24 schedule and feature the quarterbacks we face:   1.  Hou — Stroud 2.  GrB — Love 3.  Chi  — Williams 4.  Pit   — Wilson 5.  Jax  — Lawrence 6.  Ten. — Levis  7.  Mia  — Tua 8.  Hou — Stroud 9.  Min  — McCarthy 10. Buf. — Allen 11.  NYJ — Rodgers 12.  Det — Goff 13.  NE. — Maye 14.  BYE 15. Den — Nix 16. Ten — Levis 17.  NYG — Jones 18.  Jax. — Lawrence   Four rookies:  Williams, McCarthy, Maye, Nix.   Two 2nd year QBs:  Stroud, Levis Two young veterans:  Lawrence, Tua Four Vets of various years:  Allen, Rodgers,  Goff, Wilson That’s a total of 12.    Lawrence, Stroud, Levis the Colts face X2.  That’s a total of 15.    Then Love and Jones round out the 17 QBs the Colts face.   Sure feels like a tougher schedule of QBs than we faced last year.
    • I totally agree!! I’m sure Shane had the rug pulled from under him after AR went down…. Especially with JT being back…… I think we will see a vastly different type of Offense… the few times we see Shane reference the Jt /AR combo he grins like a goat eating briars !! You add Pitt, downs,AD, woods, Ogletree……. We’re kinda scary
    • Phase 2 of off season program began Monday May 13 right after rookie camp. Whole team together but offense vs defense can't practice against each other.
    • the realist in me because of the weak secondary and unproven talent on the team sees 7 wins. but the fan in me sees 10 wins
