At What Point Are The Colts Going To Work Peyton Out?

You would think the Colts would put Manning through some kind of intense throwing regimen with a monumental decision looming right around the corner. Even if it would be a restructured incentive based deal I don't think you can go into a situation like this blindly. They have to access EXACTLY where he is right now to be able to make the most informed decision. In my opinion if they don't work him out soon it means they have already moved on. Thoughts?

Where he is right now isnt the issue...

they need THEIR doctors to tell them he will be nearly 100% in September...

The incentive deal protects the Colts. If he dont play..they dont pay.

It makes sense that the Colts do this intense observation of PM's workout shortly before March 8.

Since PM is still under contract, the Colts can order this done, if PM doesn't go off and hide.

Why would they?

To evaluate PM's arm, and provide that information to Irsay.

All that is assuming, of course, that Irsay and PM are still in discussion mode regarding the revised contract.

If it has already been determined that there is no viable revised contract, no workout, just the preparation for the press release that says good bye.

Exactly what I was thinking. Hard to believe the guy paying the millions wouldn't want to know exactly where the arm is at this point. Heck........we all do! We should have some kind of reference point to go by being that the Colts watched him throw in December.

Which brings me back to why would they? I'll will gladly admit to being wrong, but I feel that ship has sailed.

Obviously they will give Manning as much time as possible to heal before they work him out.

I don't understand the logic of thought that if they haven't worked him out by now he's been written off.

Its just you being impatient that lead you to that conclusion. Well that's my best guess anyway

It's up to Manning really! Either he takes a pay cut and redo's the contract prior to March 8th or they release him. Irsay isn't going to pay him that $28 million. He can't, there's no way, it kills our cap. I want Manning back more than anyone but I've come to the conclusion he's not coming back to the Colts. It's about the money and the current contract won't allow that. It's up to Manning now.

Why so doom and gloom? Where there is a will there is a way. If both sides want to then it can be done, but therein lies the problem....do both sides really want to?

FJC is not doom and gloom. He may be a charter member of the Debbie Downer club.

Maybe, just maybe, neither side really wants to do a deal, contrary to what many fans think.

I wouldn't call it doom and gloom.

I don't believe that it is as simple as that, and even if it were, like you said, i'm not sure both sides would really want to.

we all want to rush this decision....

..and they are taking their time to work out a deal...

...again..if they wanted to cut him..he'd be gone...You dont have to negotiate that.

I think it's more than just the money. Peyton wants to play for a team that wants to win now. The colts are sending out signals that they are fully committed to rebuilding. Why would Peyton want to come back if he thinks his team is rebuilding. And then there's that guy luck. Peyton doesnt want to have to deal with any situations that may arise because the colts want to try out their new and future toy.

Yes, anything that would make him expendable would not be welcomed.

And we experienced first hand, what the consequences of that was last season.

The team cannot abide by the whim of any of its players. The team needs to make decisions based on the team's best interests.

Could it be the Colts don't care where Peyton is health wise because they are ready to go in a new direction at QB.

In that case, I believe he'd have been cut by now....

If the decision has been made..there's no negotiating and there's no need to watch workouts.

that why signs suggest he'll be back...

Its being worked out....

Mark, have you considered that what has been said is merely PR and for the sake of fans such as you?

What state where the Colts in 2 years ago? Or 3 when they where in the SB? The team wasnt any more talented then it is today, thats for sure. So if they are rebuilding, in theory they are getting better. Peyton as already shown us that he can make a horrible team a legit contender. Why are people trying to get rid of him because of this "rebuilding" phase? Manning turns that rebuilding into contender just by walking onto the field. Why not rebuild and have a few years of mediocrity when we can rebuild and have a chance to win the SB.

To answer the question I think they are just waiting till last minute. Give Manning the greatest amount of time possible. Whats the rush? They have till march 8th to make the decision. Im sure it will be made on the 7th at 11:55pm. Worry about the other issues for now, revisit this in a week.

Who knows when they work him out... Perhaps never. If Peyton is not cleared by the doctors by March 8th to capably practice, he will not hold a practice session. It's as simple as that. When will the Colts work him out? When he is medically able to do so. And by the lingo we've been hearing from Irsay, Grigson, and company, he's not cleared yet. So no practice yet. Once Peyton is cleared, he'll practice.

:sigh: 13 more days until March 8.

I keep expecting a knock at my door and a guy in a frog mask with a baseball bat and a grudge. I have to admit, you've been a real sport about my stupid sense of humor.

Yes, March 8th cannot come quickly enough. It's a good thing we aren't all locked in a room with each other. Come to think of it, that would've made a great reality TV show. Housing the Luck and Manning camps in a house together. What would be a good name for this show?

    • I'm all for doubling down and going EDGE in the 1st again. Just got to make sure we get the right one. Depending on where we draft, I'm okay with trading up a couple of picks to snatch the better pass rusher of the bunch. Since there will be a good amount of rushers, I hear, let's go get the better one. I can also see the draft being the opposite as this years. Most teams will go defense now in this draft, and very good offensive players fall. I think we are perfect on offense, that's why I'm okay with trading up to get the guy we need on defense.
    • IMHO , its all about perspective   If you treat Pierce as WR1, you will be disappointed   If you treat Pierce as a solid contributor, you will be pleased   - The man can block, maybe the best blocking WR on this team - The man has speed - The man can rotate in with our other WRs   I do believe that AD Mitchell will take over as a starting outside WR   The reality is, 17 games is a LONG season,    Pittman and AD Mitchell will be "fresher" for the end of the game as they are rotated in and out   The odds say that there will be injuries, and we could see Pierce be a starter on either side   I for one, WANT to keep Pierce thru his rookie deal (We will see after that)
    • Zach Moss is no RB1.  If he showed signs he was the Bills wouldn’t have traded him for Hines who also is no RB1.  Moss is a RB 2.  A good one too.  Fortunately for him a season playing behind the Colts OL worked out favorably for him. Moss became available because we have an RB1 and the Bengals jumped at the chance to fill a hole in their lineup and Moss can do that like he did for the Colts when Taylor wasn’t available.  He is not a back teams have to worry about like they have to do for Taylor.  Every team needs an RB1.  He was the Bills RB1 for a short time and shipped off to the Colts for Hines.  And they drafted him.  He certainly belongs on a NFL roster.  I wish he stayed to back up Taylor.  But money and opportunity always talks as it should.  I worry about our RB position if something happens to Taylor for a long period.  I think we should be looking for a proven player who would be that true backup you can rely on behind Taylor.  Right now that backup position is a position that concerns me.   The other being starting FS.
