Looking back at the roster in 2014 (and 2012), how were we any good??

OL - Castonzo, Mewhort, Harrison, Thornton/Lance Louis, Cherilus (injured)

DL - Jones (injured), Redding, RJF (glorified backup), Chapman, Hughes, Moala

OLBs - Walden, Werner (!!!)

CBs - Davis, Toler (injured), Josh Gordy (!!!)

S - Adams, Landry, Sergio Brown (special teamer)

RB - Trent Richardson, Boom Herron

Even the backup on the current roster are better than the vast majority of the starting lineup from then, but it seems like our record each year has gotten worse and we have struggled more with AFC South opponents than ever before.

A very potent offense?

Smoke and mirrors.  6-0 in the division, got lucky with Marvin Lewis and an injured Manning in the playoffs. They played four division winners that year - Patriots, Broncos, Cowboys and Steelers - and lost by a combined 166-85 score.

Our division consistently drafting in top 10 every year getting younger and stronger. Some now are learning more from their mistakes therfore doing a much better job. Our division has been a cake walk for us for a long time but no longer. That makes a significant outcome in record and the Colts have made more mistakes or maybe just bad luck than in years past, but now we are learning also, hopefully. Our future seems to be heading up. All we can do is trust in the guys that are getting paid to make the right choices.Go Colts!

We weren`t. 3 years of some of the worst 11 win teams ever.
Poor AFC South opponents couldn`t hold a 4th quarter lead.

The running game with Bradshaw was actually pretty good until he got injured. Helped the Colts off to the 6-3 start before he went down against (I believe) NE.

They had some easy teams in JAX, TEN, CLE, WSH, NYG on the schedule.

IIRC They went a combined 4-5 against teams above .500, with two of those wins coming against the 9-7 Texans.

Defensively, Vontae had his best pro season, and they got some decent production from the secondary (even Greg Toler). They also had 40 + sacks somehow (though they also blitzed a ton).

A combination of an easy schedule, above average production from some guys, and bit of Luck and luck helped the 2014 team reach the AFCCG.
