Dark Superman
Why in the world would the Colts keep Allen over Fleener? We paid a guy $30 million dollars who is constantly injured, can't block and isn't a great receiving threat. Jack Doyle who makes pennies is a TE in my opinion. Another questionable decision by Grigson for burying the talent on this team.
Jackie Daytona
Fleener isn't even the type of TE they wanted..... Allen, though always hurt, is....so is Doyle, thankfully
COLTS449
I mean. Yeah. We should have kept Fleener. Fleener's the better receiving TE IMO. Which is what I want. A big time receiving TE. I wanted us to keep him in the offseason and stand by it. Same with Jerrell Freeman. Why keep an old bum like DQ instead of Freeman who was coming off his best season????? Makes NO sense. But hey. Ryan Grigson makes no sense. What about the pass rush? Why keep an old bum like Trent Cole? And I don't care how many ALMOST sacks he has. I care about actual sacks, pressures, tackles for a loss, etc. Why not bring in Nick Perry who's probably going to put up 15 plus sacks with Green Bay this year??? COLTS449
Fleener and Doyle would be a pretty sexy 1-2 punch at TE wouldn't they.....
RockThatBlue
He drops passes at crucial times and stays getting hurt. That contract was a disaster.

John Waylon
Is it too late to scribble his name out on his contract and put Jack Doyle's on there instead? *
Narcosys
The reason we didn't keep fleener, or freeman, or any other us cause they were way too dang expensive. You want fleener who couldn't block to save his QB's life? Our blocking is bad enough. Allen can block. He has laid the wood quite a few times. Freeman wanted a ton and we weren't going to be able to afford everyone. Not with Luck's contract looming. You people make no sense. Narcosys
Actually, @Superman, I would love it if you could assess a hypothetical. Taking into Luck's contract, assess if we could have signed fleener and freeman to the exact same contacts they received from the teams that signed them. I'll even give you room to assume that we would have cut Allen and DQ. Would we have been able to sign them?
SilentHill
I was so excited when I saw this topic it's 1:00am and I'm beyond tired, I swore the topic said "Aliens" I was looking forward to a good read as to why the aliens are to blame for the Colts collapse. BOTT
I like Allen but there is no way he deserved that contract. Fleener was no big loss.

Close, but in the context of Luck's contract, would it fit? http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/jerrell-freeman-8872/

Bluefire4
Allen is a better player than Fleener but neither deserved the contract they got. I will keep saying it until you guys get it. Fleener had two good games and only has 2 more catches and 54 more yards than Dwayne Allen. And he had two of those easy drops he always had with us when they played the Chargers. He also still can't break tackles and if you took away the couple of long balls he had, he would still be averaging 5 yards a catch. We should have let them both go and got more compensatory picks. Doyle is better than both in my opinion. He blocks just as well as Allen and is a better playmaker.

Also those two wouldn't be that even. Losing offense to gain defense. Need to compare offense to offense and such.

our_dbs_rock
Maybe they should have had Vontae convince his brother to sign a contract in Indy instead of resigning Allen.
