Are we really that much worse

Our roster is much better than most give credit for . Most of our D trouble can be traced back to pass rush there is no scheme or player than can be in perfect coverage forever . We beat up the best team in football last year and hung right with the second best while underperforming  You just don't do that without talent with a legit pass rush this team could be down right nasty .

Having no pass rush is the equivalent of having no QB on offense. Sadly we can't shut down a good QB. That alone will prevent us from winning regardless if the overall roster is better.

Well fortunately the colts aren't in that category as having no pass rush.

OK Jason, what is either inaccurate or overblown?  We are the OLDEST team in the league, so much for building a franchise, and for every one decent FA or draft signings by Grigson, there are four or five really bad ones.

Yeah.....the oldest because our kicker and backup qb were over 40, and our fourth best WR who just got cut was not far behind.  Big deal.  Don't act like the core of this team is devoid of youth.

That's true...however, late in the year we were getting a lot of pressure and some sacks from the interior guys (Kerr, McGill, Langford and even some from Winn and Parry), and it's harder to find interior pass rushers than it is to find edge rushers.  And there's a lot of youth with those interior guys so in that regard, we're setup very well, especially when you add Anderson back into the mix.

With Langford, Parry, Jones, and Anderson healthy, there are some analyst's that say Indy's D-line is one of the best in the league.  It just has to be healthy.

We need another impact olb opposite of Mathis, and Corner opposite Davis, and the D starting unit is set. Fixable with a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

I think our O-line would be hugely improved with just 1 single addition....a Solid Center. Trade back to get Kelly and another 3-4th round pick. However I also believe RG can be improved with a 3rd-4th RD pick. Having A.C.,Mewhort , Ryan Kelly   Sebastian Tretola  , Good as starters, and Rietz  where he is best, a plug in play replacement or breather o-lineman, we could have a very solid overall O-line.

But our team was 8-8 with injuries to how many impact starters? And most of the losses came down to a single score difference?....yeah, i'd say our 2015 team was better than the previous ones.

2012 and 2013, we caught MANY lucky breaks.

e.g. 2013 Seahawks game, we were severely outgained in yardage. Lawrence Guy's blocked FG turned the momentum around. (who incidentally had a breakout season of 46 tackles, 4.5 sacks the past year)

2012 roster was flatly bad. e.g. starters like Moise Fokou, Antonio Johnson, Fili Moala, Tom Zbikowski, Samson Satele, Mike McGlynn, Winston Justice.

Sarcasm?? Never sure on the internet..

22nd in sacks puts us way down on that list.

22nd overall doesn't look very good.  However, that's the overall season average.  They started out slow but really came on later in the season.  I believe the Colts had the 2nd most sacks in the month of December.

reggie's injury set the offense back, we may have been a super bowl team if he and bradshaw stayed healthy

bradshaw was better than gore

we are counting heavily on luck to be elite, other wise this roster is not special if we have just average QB play

    • Come on now…  Lamar Jackson is a two time NFL MVP.   Justin Fields is entering his 4th season, and he wasn’t terrible with Chicago.    Anthony Richardson started 4 games for the Colts.  He’s thrown just 84 total passes.   We’re all pulling for the kid to succeed,  but he’s got a lot to prove before  anyone can credibly say AR is better than Fields or Jackson.    There are plenty of questions to be asked and the answers wont come until early next year.    We all could be having an entirely different conversation next off-season.
    • People saying he was a run first QB never watched his college tape. I won't lead the witness, but you can make some basic assumptions as to why people believed that.   IMO, his actual football problems coming into the league were:   - bad footwork. Made him have some inconsistent, wild throws at times. - not that great at making easy, short passes. The layups, essentially.     I'd say in the short sample we saw last year, that the latter issue he dramatically improved on. For the former, there were still some erratic throws (when he missed, he really missed), but he also showed progress there a s well (his completion percentage in the NFL was 59.5 vs 53.7 in his one year starting at college. It's usually the opposite trend for most rookies)   I'm absolutely on board on AR becoming a franchise QB, the only issue he has is proving he can stay healthy. I also don't think calling out two minor injuries vs one major injury is enough to call injury prone, but he has to prove it all the same.
    • He can’t as you pointed out those contracts are more or less slotted.
    • No , he is not holding out for first round money. Those days are long gone.
    • Part of me wishes AD gets 88. I like what Dallas does with their 88.
