While watching the Dan Patrick show this morning they had former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson on and the top of Mr. Manning came up. JJ said that if it was his call he would tell Peyton either do a contract restructure or be released. Dan said he just doesn't see anyway that Peyton ever takes another snap with the Colts. Both feel age and injury is just at the point where it is in the best interest of the Colts to cut ties and move on.

However I think what everyone is not taking into account is the "Irsay" factor. I really think Jim Irsay view's Peyton differently then all the other players who have ever worn a Colt jersey. I think not only will Peyton be a Colt next year, that unless "Peyton" pushes the restructure, Irsay will pay him what they agreed to and the Colts will still draft Luck with the No. 1 pick.

Outsiders give opinions with no inside knowledge of the Indy situation...

Its not their fault...They arer asked and they answer..

..But some of the so-called 'insiders' have actually talked to Polian or Irsay...

..and they say that both Peyton and A.Luck will be with the Colts next year.

Exactly...if this season has shown anything is that emotions (confidence, momentum, etc) mean EVERYTHING and if you base your decisions on "business" choices you end up looking more like the Redskins.

That's actually the opposite of how you want to make decisions. The Redskins problem is that they sign free agents like fans would. Every recognizable name that shows up gets money thrown at them without regard to team chemistry or if that player is even a good fit for what they're trying to do.

Emotional decisions are rarely rational decisions. Irrational decisions are rarely good decisions.

What this season has shown us is that being dependent on one player to be successful isn't a good strategy.

And that Peyton Manning is probably better than we thought if that's possible.

Don't you this decision HAS to be made on factors such as Peyton's medical outcome, our salary cap and how his contract impacts our cap....instead of just picking up his option "for old time's sake"?

You are correct that is not what they are saying, but agree or disagree, Coltsagent is making a valid point.

I think we are talking apples and oranges. Of course the emotions that come with the game are important. But the front office has to run the team as emotion-free as possible. If they decide that taking Luck and moving on without Manning is in the long term best interest of the team, then they have to make the decision without the sentiment of what Manning has done for the franchise, city, etc. That is what I believe Johnson and Dan Patrick were talking about.

I feel you're right about the "Irsay Factor" and how he views Peyton. Plus he's mentioned on Twitter about the Rodgers/Farve thing in relation to our situation and I feel he thinks it'll work for us as well.

it seems obvious to me, but what do i know.

Manning restructures with incentive-laiden contract for next year. He can recover at his own pace and even work to be ready for next year's play-offs. This recovery could take a while. If he can't make a comeback , then we've paid him to "school" Luck or whoever is next QB. If he can come back, realistically, he'll prob only play another 2 or 3 years. If we're lucky. In the meantime, Luck or whoever will be learning from the GOAT, Manning can comfortably recover and still have possibly a chance at another run. I would think it would be difficult for a healthy QB starting a new system on another team, let alone a recovering one.

Take Luck or whoever as the next leader. Luck seems to fit the bill. We'll be covered if manning doesn't come back. Or, he'll be very prepared and learned some great practice and leadership skills from manning. Even if Manning makes a recovery for beginning next year, the odds of him not getting hurt in future are much greater than past. We would have "the kid" to step in. I believe Luck would look better than Painter or Danny O right now.

As far as the picks we could get for Luck at the 1st pick, i don't see the value. I think whoever gets Luck will have a winning record. So we trade our 1st(Luck) this year and get their firsts this year and next. maybe a couple other later round like 3rd & 4th. We get 2 later 1st rd picks and a couple later round. I'd rather take a chance on the "franchise QB" than "fill the roster" with the other picks. They won't make the difference the franchise QB would, imo. We will have a full draft of picks this year I think. In the past few years , we didn't. I think if we focus on CB, DT, OL, and safety we'll look much better. I liked this year's draft. Most were injured, so next year we'll get like two years drafts of players. Add a couple FA like this year, and with Peyton and Luck both on roster, we're covered.

If manning does make a comeback next year, we still have Luck to trade or Manning's trade value would be significantly higher than now. I think its in everyones best interest to restructure at lower rate until more is known of his health. Maybe by Feb we will, but I'm not so sure.

I just can't see passing on Luck when we'll be wanting a new #1 in the next couple years ANYWAY. At that time, there is no way we'll be in the position to get one. The stars have aligned for one reason or another. You gotta take advantage of the opportunity.

      Offense wins in the league now and to take it a step further the QB is by far the lost important piece on any team.    So, on offense you need the best possible QB with the best possible supporting cast and on defense you need players who can affect the play of the opposing QBs directly.

      This is definitely an issue. So, either Ballard is A.) Cheap and he doesn't want to spend money on FAs (even with injuries happening) or B.) He can't build a competitive enough team to attract any worthwhile FA's after 7 going on 8 years now.    If AR and the current team can't attract FAs that could theoretically get a starting job at the S position for a year, then we are in big trouble according to the opinions of the players of the NFL. Personally, I think Ballard just avoids FA so much that he doesn't want to bring outside help in. He wants to be known as the GM who builds his team from the draft.   Wish the local media would call him out on this.

      I think the Colts have the money to be competitive for a good free agent safety.  I think bringing in one of them may depend on whether a player like Simmons wants to play for the Colts.  They may be hoping to sign for a team with a better chance of making the playoffs.   So I don’t know if Ballard is making a statement or not?     Hope my answer makes sense to you….
