Jets Have Denver Then New England Coming Up

When they lose the next two games should Ryan get fired knowing the team never stood much of a chance to begin with against thwe Bronco and Pats?  I mean at this stage is their any reason to make a coachinmg change knowing what the season probably wil hold. Recall when the Colts were without Manning and were a disaster. At least we knew there would be next year...........what is next year for the Jets? The coach and GM dislike each other and what if they draft a QB and he refuses to play for them? It has happened before.

The owner will fire everybody at the end of the season, and start fresh next year. Rex will be sought after as a DC. He's the type of guy you hire if you have skilled defensive players that haven't lived up to their potential.

Rex Ryan's issue is his loyalty, mostly irrational to the young Geno Smith. He should know that if he has to insert Vick in the line up, he needs to go full throttle with the change, embrace it and roll with it till Vick shows him otherwise after a few games. If he could stick with Geno Smith more than the average coach would have, he can definitely stick with Vick for a few games.

The problem is, GMs have their guys as coaches and players, and head coaches have their guy as QB, and the moment they refuse to accept that their loyalty is not putting the best product on the field, their tenure is short lived.

He did the same thing with Sanchez too.

I would love to see the Colts bring him on as a DC.  Manusky has done a decent job so far this year with what he's had to work with, but I think Rex can really take our defense to the next level.  I also think Pagano's loyalty will prevent him from firing Manusky and bringing in Rex, but that's just my opinion

It's not over yet.

It was over before the season began. Their starting QB is Geno frickin' Smith.

You're right that he's still a better coach than worthless John Fox, though. I'm not sure if the inability to field one nfl quality QB in five+ seasons is his fault or the GM's. I know Papa Geno is the GM/Owner's baby and maybe his hands are tied. Sanchez was abysmal and overstayed his welcome by years. Heck, they even PAID the guy an insane paycheck to stink it up on a nightly basis.

Also, if the Jets are fortunate, at least Vick may have flashes of looking like a good QB and help win some games. At least he remembers what it's like to  play like a decent QB. He's a hasbeen.

The only thing Geno flashes is the game away before your very eyes as he chucks it in to the fifth row. He's a never was, and never will be.

Even as a Patriots guy, I have to say I'm a fan of Rex. I'm not sure he's a capable head coach - he's certainly a very good coordinator - but he's the anti-Belichick in so many ways. Boisterous, full of personality, speaks his mind.

Problem is, he does all those things almost to a fault. And when his teams don't win, his "let it all hang out" approach backfires on him. It sure seems, based on some players' comments the past week, that he's lost the team a little here. And that's not the first time this has happened.

Personally I'd hate to see him go. But if the Jets don't turn it around he could be canned when they hit their bye week.

New England still has a lot of problems, and the Jets tend to give them everything they have at least once a year.

As for Denver, I'll take Rex over John Fox any day of the week.

I've never understood the dislike for John Fox.

Rex over Fox...with their records...2 Super Bowls for Fox, right? ? cant agree

You mean IF.  That's why they play the games.

I like Rex too. He is the ying to Belichick's yang. :)  Really the perfect NY personality but like you said, not always a successful approach. I think sometimes he cares too much about his players liking him. I do think he was put in a lousy situation when they hired the new GM because he did not want Rex as his coach. I can't imagine going to work everyday for a boss who never wanted you and it also appears that he took away some of his responsibilities as well as Rex has been quick to point out the last couple of years that all team decisions are joint decisions and not his alone to make.

I often wonder if he would have been better off with the Ravens. Ozzie is a great GM and he would have had that great defense to work with but I do question if he has what it takes to be a HC. He is terrible at developing QBs and the hiring of Mornhinweg is a real head scratcher this season.

I do think he will be a DC somewhere. Maybe Indy given he has ties with Pagano from his Ravens days.

Jets could be taking a QB early in the next draft...

They will be. Geno Smith was essentially a Band-Aid QB. I think Ryan wanted him just to appear to be making change offensively, when he was really just there for appearances. Everyone knew Geno wasn't the answer and if not for that Sanchez injury, he wouldn't have started.

I don't think Rex wanted him at all. The gm did

Sanchez was a mess, but the Jets actually found a way to downgrade even more with Gee No. Unless the they can find a way to really blow it and take Mariota with the first pick in the draft, their QB issues may be with them for several years to come.  There really isn't another NFL calibre QB prospect in that 2015 draft class, although there may be a sleeper or two that begin to show talent through the rest of this college season. You know it's really bad when the future of your team depends on being worse than Oakland and Jacksonville.

    • I gotta say you make arguments that you’d never accept from your students because they’re so superficial.      So saying Ballard has been mediocre to bad is tissue paper thin.  Why hasn’t Irsay fired this mediocre to bad GM?  Because he signed off on what Ballard did each year in real time, not after the fact.   Irsay knows Ballard has an eye for talent.  And as Ballard freely admitted in January, the Colts haven’t had more success because he failed to get the QB right.  These aren’t excuses, but it IS badly needed context — which you’d realize if you weren’t always looking for new ways to hate on CB.      As to what you and Moose “supposedly said”  there’s a simple way to verify.  Go to the Day 2 draft thread of Friday April 26.  It was between 3a and 4 my time when I saw it.  I believe it was recent.  Just add 2-3 hours depending on your time zone and you can see your conversation with Moose.   What was so astonishing, what makes me “prattle on” as you put it is how you two ever thought you were right?!?   Given your career choice you jumped to conclusions I’d like to think you’d never accept from your students.   Why you thought Ballard didn’t know more?  Why you thought you two knew better?   Ballard not only knows more, he knows dramatically more.  As I said in another post, he shared the tip of the iceberg.  He doesn’t share the part of the iceberg that you can’t see.  The 90 percent.  The absence of curiosity is stunning given your occupation.    Now, at the bottom of your post you brought up a new line of attack on me and I have no idea what you’re talking about?   I’m not an optimist?   Since when?  Based on what?   In my 12 years here, only 1-2 posters have ever made that claim.   So what are you talking about?     Finally….   You can stop calling me Sir.  It’s normally said with respect.  You don’t respect me at all.   I’ve extended olive branches publicly and privately, and both have been rejected.  Your choice.  So calling me sir is intended as an insult.   It’s old and boring.   Move on.   I don’t know why you “enjoy engaging with me”.   You take a beating.  But if that’s what you’re in to, be my guest.    Sorry this went so long….
    • He loves you, you just don't know it (sarcasm)
    • Cubs actually won one - beat the Giants finally.
    • Jared, put $50 on the Lakers to win it all. They are getting +4000 odds, you would win $2000, if you lose, you lose just $50. Hear me out, those odds will drop bigtime shortly because I think the Lakers will make a huge move to bolster their roster.    LeBron wins his 5th tying Magic and Kobe, Lakers tie Boston with 18. Perfect ending because LeBron looks like a hero + he just beat Kareem's record too.
    • So….  You’ve been absent 7-10 days (more?) and you’re back looking to start not one, but two fights!  Okie-dokie!      If you want to call me names — fine.  I’d simply respond that my knowledge is counter-balanced by those who THINK they know a lot, but clearly don’t.   On to your other post.  That one is longer, and so will be my response.
