Coltsfanatic24 Final Draft

Recommended Posts

2nd

Terrence Brooks, FS, 5'11 200 lbs, Florida State - With Bethea leaving in FA, safety becomes a huge need. Howell played well last year but he's coming off an injury. Landry has also dealt with injuries in the past and he's more of a in the box S. Brooks would be a good compliment to Landry. He has CB speed with a 4.42 40, can cover the deep half and plays fast. He's also aggressive in run support and has the awareness and anticipation when the ball is in the air.

3rd

Pierre Desir, CB, 6'2 205 lbs, Lindenwood - With Toler's injury history CB depth is a major concern. Grigson has drafted a small school prospect in the mid rounds in each of the last two drafts, Desir fits the profile. Desir is a fluid athlete with light feet, flexibility and balance. Has good top end speed and is good in press coverage. Has good ball skills, had 7 int's last year. Pagano is one of the best coaches in developing CB's, he could do the same for Desir.

5th

James Gayle, DE/OLB, 6'4 260 lbs, Virginia Tech - I know some of you have us drafting an OLB early but with Mathis  returning, an improved Werner and Walden in the rotation. Unless we draft one with our 1st pick, with other needs on the team i think will draft one in later rounds. Gayle has experience as a stand-up edge rusher and dropping back into coverage, showing reasonable awareness and the ability to drive on the ball. Has the burst and quickness to explode off the edge with flexibility and raw power.

6th

George Atkinson lll, RB/KR, 6'1 218 lbs, Notre Dame - The David Reed experiment was one of the worst times during the season last year for me, we need a player that can get us in good field position. Atkinson has a good combination of size and speed,  Great KR with a history of big plays in big games.

7th

James Stone, C, 6'4 306 lbs, Tennessee - Holmes is the only C on the roster, need depth at the position. Stone is a better pass blocker then run blocker but with the right coaching could improve.

I too think Mathis was robbed of DPOY award. All because Keuchly is the NFL's new poster boy. Seriously, he's even in the new Madden trailers and he'll probably be on the cover.

But back on topic, I don't think Brooks is really a 2nd round prospect and taking him there would be a reach based on his skillset. I'd take him in the 3rd and maybe Marcus Smith in the 2nd.

I like it. George Atkinson III is someone I had wanted as a sleeper. I would definitely like it if we had some guy for a coverage LB role somewhere in there.

I am not so sure I would want a center so late in the draft, I'd want someone no later than the 5th round and someone that can play OG too and is versatile. I'd rather go for a late round WR that can run block well. We might get a good one in this WR deep draft late in round 7 or a coverage LB in a specialist role.

I think Desir is gone by 59.

Possible but he's a small school CB, a lot of teams will pass on him for that reason. The 2nd round is where most of the QB's, S, and WR's will be drafted. We see it every year players fall in the draft i.e Warford, Hilton, Allen. I think he'll be there in the 3rd.

It was a tough decision for me to decide between Brooks and Smith. After watching more game film on each player, i think Brooks offered more at a position of need. Had Smith rated higher but not by much, went with Brooks because of the potential and rare athletic ability.

It's 50/50 IMO. Every draft (especially last year's) the one position that there is a run on and get's over drafted is CB. They get drafted early and often. A lot of it is based on combine numbers. That is why he could get drafted early. On the other hand like you said, very small school and very raw as a player, mentally and in terms of technique.

The three players you gave as examples of guys going in the 2nd round....   they all went in the 3rd.

Allen was the first pick in the 3rd round.  Warford went high in the 3rd.   And TYH went low in the 3rd.

I would love it if our Day 2 turned out like that.  I think it's realistic and the players selected are good values.  Some services seem to list Brooks much lower, but he should be going right around our 2nd.  I also think that Desir will be there for our 3rd.  I'm more in favor of picking up an OG in the 3rd, though, because I see no quality depth there.  (Yeah, I'm hopeful about Lance Louis, but I consider him a 50/50 shot of having anything left after his injuries.)  You're wrong about not having a 2nd center on the roster.  Thomas Austin in on there, and the staff must like him because he was on the PS all but 4 or 5 games last year.  Plus, I think that Donald Thomas is Holmes' real back-up.  (Of course, we need more OG depth to have Thomas be the primary back-up center.)  I also have had Atkinson in my mock at times this year.  He caught the ball really well at his PD, and he has some real potential at RB...

We agree we definitely have real need for a Quality S & CB prospect. And these two you picked fit our system IMO. Well done.

But IMO, Grigson won`t set himself up for criticism by not addressing his O-Line. That means a Quality guy at 2 or 3.
I figure the 3rd for a Guard with center potential because it looks like there will be 2-3 good guys that could be there at 90.
And an area it wouldn`t cost a lot to move up a few spots to get THEIR guy if needed. lol

Pick 5 I lean to that being another DB or D-lineman for developement.

rd 6 see 5 or  that talented guy who falls for medical reasons.

rd 7 LB/special teamer or return guy.

Thanks for sharing and giving guys to take a look at.
