Just got my First Look at Deone Buccannon....Uggh

Recommended Posts

As I've said, I have not really watched or scouted NCAA football this year, mostly because of Lame Kiffin and what he did to my favorite team...but as I look at this tape of this kid vs. Oregon, I'm vary wary of drafting him. I have to look at more film tough, but looks like the draft breakdown guys have been slacking it this year.

I'm not sure what one can reasonably expect when you're looking at tape of Washington State.

I mean Buchanon is a safety on a team with not very much talent.   Not just pro talent, but college talent too.

So, Buchanon is the last line of defense and by the time he's getting to the ball the WR or RB is in an advantageous position.

It's hard to play 1 against 11.

Of course, I could be completely and totally full of it...    it wouldn't be the first time!     :dunno:

We should not reach for a S Howell is the starter. I think Tre Boston late is a option for us. I am for best player available. I think Grigs did a good job putting in that position

Like I said I will take it all back what im about to say here if Howell has improved but other than one game Howell sucked now that guy from WSU im against drafting him now he looked very bad against the run and pass I think clemons is still on the open market and also there are probably better S in this draft than that guy.

Yup...I watched a lot of video on him the other day, and I suppose if forced to chose between Bucannon and Reynolds, I'd take Reynolds, but the Colts might just be better off with Howell. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of Safety talent in this draft. Just for comparison, I pulled up some video of Clinton-Dix, and even he didn't look all that great. There's a lot more CB talent available with a late 2nd round pick, and I'd rather see the Colts go in that direction.

This is why I just can't see us passing up any good FSs in the 2nd round.  Ward, Brooks, and Joyner, in that order.  If they're not there, I would probably wait until the late rounds rather than reach for someone like Bailey or Reynods or Loston (none of whom I like).

I think you over-analyzed the tape. He's not a Linebacker, so he doesn't have to have like 10 tackles a game. He's mainly responsible for making the tackle when a RB gets past the LBs. The one play where he truly looked bad was when his hesitation allowed the QB to run in for a score.

And he was in good position on that interception that got called back because his team mate got called for PI when he didn't even need to grab him. Thought the tape was average. But notice how on a few plays where the RB was running up the sideline he came u and layed the wood. But most of the time his teammates were in position to make the tackle.

But I noticed the ball wasn't thrown towards the middle of the field when he was there. Its not an amazing tape but its not as bad as people make it out to be. People here love Yawin Smallwood and his Michigan tape is absolutely terrible.

I watched the USC tape before. I'm just now watching the Oregon won. No mention of how we forced and recovered a fumble. Or at 7:05 when he runs down and makes a really nice tackle for a loss on the RB who had gotten past the first defender.  And the commentator had really nice things to say about him as well. This isn't his best tape but Bucannon is a great prospect.

I think he has good field awareness, and good instinct but not a killer one. I think he would be better in a zone type defence.

That was extremely underwhelming, I definitely didn't see a player who I would spend a 2nd or 3rd rounder on based on the Oregon game. I haven't really watched enough of him to pass a final judgement though, it's just that there were a couple of times he made really pathetic plays and none that wowed me.

Right now we need a tallish (at least 6 foot) ballhawking FS. Landry will be the SS and lay the wood. I would be very happy if we draft Bucannon. Even though he played SS, he has a total of 15 INTs in his college career (6 last year alone) and that 15 INTs is more than any other safety in this draft class. He is also a great kid and can play both FS and SS, making him versatile.

    • It's not that their replacements are not good.   It's the depth behind the replacements.     Also. There isn't a 3T on this team better than Buckner.  To say so is nonsense
    • There comes a point where your depth isn’t that good when you lose this many players. We aren’t talking about losing one guy or two. If Paye can’t go we are talking about half of our starters and depth. Just because you replace them doesn’t mean they are any good.
    • A high ankle sprain, even if considered mild, is a different animal than the typical 'rolled' ankle sprain, and takes at least twice as long (or more) for recovery.   Though we don't know for certain yet, this is in the realm of possibility. Besides, it may be the same ankle where he's had prior history in 2022 as well as surgery in early 2023. Taking this into consideration, a multi-week absence could be an outcome for him in the short term. An improperly healed high ankle sprain has long term ramifications to consider, as well.
    • Yes, and I'm sure the Colts will field a full rotation of D lineman, with a few having to play more snaps than before,  The replacements will be as good as the linemen that won't play....Defo, Lewis, and Paye.  That's my opinion.
    • I thought Flacco did pretty dang good. It was nice seeing passes not go over our receivers heads. AR played pretty well in the short time he was in there but I still didn’t see anything that would tell us he’s fixed his accuracy on short/intermediate throws. That being said AR is the starter unless he plays his way out or gets injured again.
