Titus Young reportedly to be released by Rams

Rob Parker, formerly with ESPN and the Detroit News, reports the St. Louis Rams will cut ties with Titus Young 10 days after claiming the troubled wide receiver off waivers from the Detroit Lions.

Given the ouster by ESPN after his controversial remarks on Robert Griffin III, Parker has a new gig with The Shadow League, a "sports, culture, life" website run by a former ESPN executive.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis-Post Dispatch says the Rams decline comment. Young's agent hasn't commented either. (That's a sign the report is on point. Why else would they not deny it?)

He probably has some mental disabilities that haven't been diagnosed, or either the diagnosis is being ignored. He needs help. Guys like Brandon Marshall, Ron Artest and Royce White have been very vocal in recent years about this kind of thing. Whether Titus Young ever plays again or not, someone should get him the help he needs. After what happened to Chris Henry, this kind of stuff shouldn't be taken lightly.

He's about to attitude himself out of the league...

I don't think this is an attitude thing....  the Rams know about his attitude....

This is likely something very serious like drugs,  alcohol,  bi-polar,  or a combination of them....

This is now very serious.    Hope the kid gets help.    He's seriously screwed up......

I hope so as well. Some medicine and a stern advisor would be a start.

I'm not suggesting anyone excuse the embarrassing behavior that any of these guys have exhibited in the past because "they have a mental illness." But I do think that some of these guys that we loosely refer to as "head cases" really are head cases, in a medical sense. I think a lot of people suffer from personality disorders and don't know it, along with anxiety, and other ailments. Add in the potential for CTE, and you could have some seriously damaged guys out there with little to no supervision.

After seeing what happened with Jovan Belcher, and other guys after retirement, the NFL and other pro leagues need to be more proactive when it comes to accommodating mental illnesses of all kinds.

I am glad I read down.  I was going to mention Belcher.

I know I am always critical of the problem children that are doing drugs, getting arrested, drunk driving/manslaughter issues.  Some as you mention have serious problems mentally or 'mental conditions.'

These athletes deserve all of the doctoral help to fight said conditions.  Hopefully they are capable of making the right decision for them and their families.  Good luck to them!!!
