Ballard drafts - is he as good/bad as people say he is?

Tackle Bernhard Raimann drafted  at #77 in the third round is turning out to be another excellent draft pick. He is currently ranked as the 10th best Tackle by PFF with a of 78.7; behind Lane Johnson of Philly. PFF measured 75 tackles in the league. To find a plus starting LT in the third round is good work by Ballard.

A really nice player so far in a vital position.  Agreed.  He slid quite a way and a lot of teams that considered him likely regret it now.

It's hard to evaluate Ballard with our coaching history being so bad. Our player development is terrible. This is not to say the Ballard is a good or great GM. We just can't make that judgement.

It's his job to hire, fire, and supervise the head coach. He's accountable for the coaching staff performance. You can argue that Frank wasn't wholly his choice but that's only because he tried and failed to hire McDaniel and then went along with hiring Frank instead of somebody else. Once they hired him, it was Ballard's job to make it work. If he didn't approve of the job Frank and his staff were doing in previous seasons, he should have done something about it.
