That is my preferred course as well. I would say that a day 2 prospect probably won't have the talent to actually be a starting NFL QB, and it would still signal to AR that he is safe. I would even go round 1 if the QB is there. Just keep picking QBs until it hits.

I think the KC situation was a bit unique. They were a good team, with a great culture and winning certainly helps in that situation. And I bet Smith knew he would have the chance to be the starter somewhere...and is just a good dude. Plus, he was paid at that point. Hard to find somebody that can check all those boxes. The idea of vet QBs coming to a team to back up and mentor young QBs seems more idealistic than realistic IMO. These are professional athletes after all who still want to compete. But there are some like JB and Hasselback. I do wonder if JB would come back here though. But at this point, I might actually go the different route and bring in another young (but more polished) QB prospect to push AR. Maybe an older prospect. Oh it will create some drama, but it will also provide potential chances to find a starter long-term. In the case of a benching or injury, those snaps would be going to a potential long-term option and not some stopgap. Not a R1 pick or anything, but Day 2 isn't out of the question.

Agreed. This situation really isn't that newsworthy. It happens all of the time in FB. Sure, its unusual for a top 5 player, but its not unusual that a starting QB struggles at times. You could say that Flacco just got benched for performance, instead of saying that AR got elevated because of improvement over two weeks on the bench. Its common to just take the HC comments/reasons with a healthy skepticism rather than allege there is some sort of big conspiracy reasoning and cover up taking place.

Another interesting fact on Allen that McDermott shared after his rookie season. He said Allen worked his tail off during the off season following his rookie year. He said they were amazed at how much he had improved during that period of time. They couldn’t believe it. He was self motivated to improve his game during the offseason. And he did and the rest is history. -
Stroud held on to the ball last year too but the OL protected better but holding on to the ball is not a great recipe for winning in the NFL. Stroud will learn soon, if he hasn't learned yet. It is always different when the expectations are higher.
