Can't remember exactly what I found, but two things stuck out. 1) the numbers I post are the early grades (they are regraded 3 times I believe each week), and 2) the individual grade is made up of subsets which impact the overall grade in a weighted manner (can't recall all the details). I'd dig in again to get the details, but simply in a "I don't care" mode right now lol.
DougDew
Thanks for putting this together each week. Its always a good read. Observations: The grading each week pretty much supports what the forum members have been seeing on the field, IMO. The stronger players score well and the not stronger players struggle. I don't see how Grover and AQM score so well, without having much impact on the field. I can understand Grover's role as more run support (at $9m for that?), but if a DE in a 43 like AQM can't make an impact in the passing game, the score defies his actual contribution, IMO. The secondary doesn't score well. Duh. Rodgers is a keeper....in some capacity....and has improved nearly each week, which you like to see with a young player. Maybe take over for Moore if we draft another Corner? My thoughts about Willis are supported....week after week per grades. Everybody's thoughts about Oke are supported.....week after week per grades. Need to understand what is going on with Wentz in the last few games. (I think defenses have put it on him to win the games and he is overmatched as a QB for that, but also does not get enough support from other passing game assets) The oline is simply tough to judge this year. Lots of things going on. Fisher struggles in pass pro...will that persist? One thing, he has not earned a huge contract, IMO.
holeymoley99
Thanks for supplying these each week, you are def one of my favorite posters here and I looked forward to these each and every week. I think Blackmon needs to take over SS reps next year and we need a FS starter, Willis as backup SS and if we can Sendejo backup FS. Addae played well when called on just dont think he has too much left. Franklin had a very good year if we run more 4-3 and less 4-2-5 wouldnt mind seeing him on the field more. He really upped his worth. Okie was up and down, made a lot of tackles BUT blew assignments. We need a #1 corner we can survive with moore and Rock with Rodgers rotating if we had that true #1. I know our scheme doesnt place a ton of emphasis on crners but we got abused way too much for my liking. On offense would be nice to resign either Glow or Reed to start at RG but if we need Pinter to start there Im ok, he has stepped up whenever called upon. Fisher needs to walk and Pryor needs to be inserted at LT, we arent exactly sure what he brings but young, tough and really improved a lot. We need to spend money on a #2 wr who is capable of being a #1. Pittman really showed a lot but we need a speed guy..... Dulin and Campbell can fight as a 3/4 and Patmon and Strachon as a 5/6. We need a #1 TE with TE size, MAC tantalizes but never answers the call, Doyle is retiring with TY and Granson is a great smaller pass catching TE who will continue to develop. Thanks, and happy you enjoyed! I intend to do a year end roster/team review at some point, but right now I'm in a "I don't give a flying fudge" mood, so I'm just happy I got the PFF out lol... I think we have some talent issues, but I also think we have scheme issues on both sides of the ball that need attention. I'm with you on most if not all of the above. The only thing I really disagree with TE. Reich's scheme is just very robust for TEs. MAC has proven several times he can run great level 2 and 3 routes, yet we rarely see them. Too much focus on level one possession type stuff. And I'm just not very high on Granson. Reminds me of Burton 2.0, and he's just not shifty enough to be a slot-TE hybrid. He was used to stretch the field in college, and we don't use him like that at all (I doubt he could be that guy in the NFL anyway)...

I was critical of his performance last year and got heckled..... Don't get me wrong, he's starter quality. He's just not elite though, and should have never been made the highest paid C. Pinter stepped right in, and graded better. He also had some impressive 2nd level action, which we really never see from Kelly.

Not sure what the issues are, but he's taken steps back the last 2 years. Started this year with an injury, so I'll cut him some slack. He's got to be better next season though. With Pinter showing strong development, might be hard to keep him off the field after another offseason of S&C. And with Glow having arguably his best season, I'd prefer to bring him back (I don't think he'll be expensive). At least interior depth should be solid next season. Colt Overseas
Thanks EastStreet for these weekly updates. I think the most difficult task this coming offseason will be acquiring a starting Left Tackle, with the limited resources that we have. We need more weapons for Wentz for sure too, but there are plenty of options out there in the FA and day 2 of the draft. But getting a starting LT will be tricky, without the 1st rounder and also complete lack of FA options (I doubt were spending $20m pa on Armstead). I'm not as down about the talent on the defense as most. I think the pass defense needs help, but I like some of the younger guys like Paye, Dayo, Rock and Rodgers. Would be ok with adding vets to supports these position groups, particurly a good speed rusher. More dissappointed the likes of Bobby O, Turay and Willis didn't take the next step in their careers. I've concerns at Safety, in that we don't have a natural Free Safety.

I think it's done a decent job in dispelling some blind-love certain folks have for certain guys, and also propped up some lesser guys that really surpassed expectations that really deserve some accolades. 32 minutes ago, Colt Overseas said: Thanks EastStreet for these weekly updates. I'd rather draft and develop, than spend big in FA in that area. I agree, LT is going to be tricky. But IMO, Fisher is not the long term answer. I'm more down on scheme (both sides) than I am talent. I think scheme is holding a lot of guys back.

IDC mode for sure

As others have said, thanks for posting these throughout the year and generating some good, thought provoking conversations about the team! Great work. Overall I think the positives from this season are: - We had good performance from a lot our backup olinemen. Pinter, Pryor and Reed. I’d be prepared to trade Kelly and start Pinter at C and not resign Fisher and give Pryor a shot at LT. - JT!!!!!! What a beast! I’ll say more on this in the negatives section. - Pittman. While not a top 10 WR1, in my book, he’s done well all things considered. - DL, not counting this last game, had a good season. I hope he’ll be even better next season with a healed ankle. - DeFo. His only problem is he’s the only threat we have on the dline right now. - Paye. Turned it up a notch over the last half of the season. Has to improve but he will. - We had some good performance from from our backup players in the secondary even if it wasn’t great or elite. Sendejo and Rodgers had some good games this season. The negatives: - Wentz. I think he made our oline look much worse than it was this season with him holding on to the ball for forever and a day. Biggest question is can you teach an old dog new tricks? I know he isn’t old but my line of thinking is more ‘has he been in the league too long to change his game?’, because he needs to. BADLY. It isn’t all his fault of course because… - Coaching has been *bleep**bleep**bleep*. Frank had his moments of genious but at the end of this season I’ve come out thinking we mostly won 9 games inspite of him. Interestingly it felt like JT’s emergence as a top2-3 RB really threw a wrench in his plans and he didn’t really know what to do with him. Fans clamoured for Frank to RTDB and I think it was obvious at around the Bills game Ballard had basically told him to use him more. Frank is VERY much a QB-coach though and having to gameplan around JT rather than just use him as an afterthought really exposed his limits as a playcaller IMO. Also, when the gameplan didn’t work Frank showed an inability to improvise and work with what the defense gave him and what Wentz’ strengths are. It seemed like he forgot half his playbook and to use other offensive weapons like Hines and MAC. - On the defensive side I HATE our defensive scheme with a passion. There’s something about just letting your opponent march down the field without showing any real interest in stopping them until the redzone that is so deflating and demoralizing. The only thing preventing this defense from being bottom 5 was peanut punches and interceptions. Unfortunately this scheme is a product of Ballard’s and I doubt we will see any changes in DC or scheme as long as he is sitting in the GM chair. - Okereke needs to go and how Moore got a pro bowl selection is beyond me. Changes need to be made at coaching level and player level. Unfortunately Frank’s and Eberflus’ limits have been known for several seasons now and I doubt we will see any change in that regard next season. We have 30+ free agents a few of which we should resign and others who can walk. Some of them clearly need to be replaced with better players but unless Ballard pulls a rabbit out of his hat it’s going to be difficult with us bumping the cap. As others have said, thanks for posting these throughout the year and generating some good, thought provoking conversations about the team! I'd really have to watch the play to weigh in intelligently. We started playing a lot more rip/liz type looks last year, and one thing was prevalent, and that was an increased frequency of DB to LB (and vice versa) handoffs. Overall, I'd say they first look at cushion to start the play. If the receiver caught the ball early (before he even gets near the defender), then to me that's not on the defender. It's on the scheme (taking the hole). Then they'd look at the handoff. If it's simply in the middle of the rip/liz or simple zone handoff, I don't think that's on the defender either (again, hole in the scheme). But in short, if RYS has the outside flat (and vertical) for instance, and the receiver is leaving the flat zone for the seam, I don't fault RYS. It sucked fo sho. But I drank my way through it Sunday. Its on to 2022-2023. BTw, the first 2 seasons of Homeland is some of the most compelling TV I’ve ever seen. It gets a little cheesy the last 2 episodes of season 2 but man that was some good stuff. I’m a sucker for spy thrillers though. Old Cold War buff. I’m a sucker for spy thrillers though. Old Cold War buff. Homeland is awesome. Some great acting and writing. Love Lewis as you know, but Danes and Patinkin are incredible too. If you weren't aware, Homeland is a remake of an Israeli series called Hatufim (Prisoners of War). I think Hulu has it dubbed if you don't like subs. It's been on Netflix before as well, and jumps around to the pay services (or Kodi if you have it) if not on Hulu anymore. Fauda (Netflix) and False Flag (Hulu) are two other incredible Israeli series and both are dubbed IIRC. Fauda is one of my favs, and looking forward to the next season. I'm currently doing a re-watch of Gomorrah (Italian gangster series on HBO Max), getting ready for the final season (5). Dubs and subs both available, but I prefer subs. Highly recommend if you can deal with foreign language shows.
