RBs?

So whats the deal with Ballard bringing in like 8 RBs for a look-see?

1.  Doing due diligence prior to season starting to have a go-to list should one of our guys gets hurt?

2.  Possible trade scenario fir Wilkins or Mack?

3. Is someone injured we arent aware of?

I get that Ballard is always looking,  but none of these guys are better than our current top 4.  It just seems excessive, even for Ballard.

My thought is he wants to be prepared should something happen.  But, why so much RB more than other positions when RB depth is as strong or stronger than any other position, imo?

got a link?

It’s from a tweet...but I am not sure how to post them here. Here is the tweet:

”Colts working out Javon Leake, Taquan Mizzell, Khalfani Muhammad, C.J. Prosise, who worked out for Texans last week, Cameron Scarlett, Brennan Scarlett's brother, and Jordan Scarlett”

Might just be due diligence...or it might indicate an injury or an impending trade.

probably just due diligence..... If you are gonna evaluate a position for potentially later in the year bringing someone in incase of injuries etc..., why not bring in like 8 guys at once and evaluate them all against each other at the same time? Makes sense to me....

IMO, CB is just doing his job. Always need to see what's out there and build relationships. And this year it's more important than ever with Covid. A few of those guys are interesting prospects who had good college careers, and several also were returners too. I think we're all-in on this season, so doubt it has much to do with the potential of trading, but who knows. If someone came knocking and offering something for Wilkins, I would think we'd listen. But I don't think we'd be shopping him. And I don't see a scenario for us to trade Mack or Hines.

I actually liked Javon Leake as a late round RB. He's fairly raw at the RB position, but is one of those guys that is a playmaker in space. He brings the most value right now as a return specialist that could develop into a solid RB down the line. He's not the best between the tackles at the moment (tends to be better on outside runs), but has at least shown decent vision. I definitely wouldn't mind him as a PS guy initially.

You can look at more people now since the PS can hold more people.  May have something to do with it.

Yes, with an increased practice squad it makes sense to be trying to evaluate players at every position.

Also, Mack hasn't played more than 14 games in a season in his first 3 years so having a RB on the PS in case of injury makes sense.  Additionally, Mack's in a contract year.  While he's said all the right things and genuinely seems like a good teammate and wants to win (instead of just having inflated numbers), my guess is that he is going to want starter money after averaging 4.7 and 4.4 YPC the past 2 seasons.  We have Big Q, Leonard, B. Smith, TY,  R. Kelly, Rivers, Houston, Hooker and others who are also free agents after this year... chances are Q and Leonard will become the highest paid players at their positions in the league, Smith, TY, Houston, Rivers and Kelly will be in the upper echelon at their positions, and Hooker's salary (if we want to bring him back) will be dictated by how he plays this year (could very well be top tier).

If Taylor proves he can be a RB1, I still think we'd be in good shape with Hines and Wilkins as backups in 2021, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to start grooming a guy on the PS because both Hines and Wilkins are FAs after 2021.
