Don't pop the champagne yet

Not only don't I understand the RJF hate, I also don't understand why this needed to be its own thread.

I agree & thought he played much better this year. Maybe the OP believes he hasn't played up to his contract as reason for his release? That I could agree with but I still would like to see RJF stick around for next year. Hopefully he keeps improving.

The guy wants 85 new players this offseason.

now you're not trying to tell me that 85 new players seems unreasonable are you?  Next thing you know you're going to put the kaibash on the whole new coaching staff he probably wants as well.

And one's man's "fair and impartial assessment" is another man's "I wonder if people actually watch the games."

RJF:

  • Graded out as the Colts best dlineman in 2014.
  • Has shown he is versatile enough to play the DT and DE positions equally well
  • Is just entering the prime of his NFL career
  • Is still under contract
  • Has been the primary back-up to a player that may retire

But yeah, let's cut him because THAT is the way to build a team.

He does have a pretty high cap number. I don't think he should be cut, if he's willing to restructure that may be best for both but that's a big IF

I want everyone gone...except andrew luck, ty and the tight ends...oh yea and davis!

Can't we at least keep Castonzo?  SMDH.

Boomstick, Mathis, Moncrief, Newsome (showed promise on a defense that lacked a real pass rush outside of him), Ballard (if healthy, he showed promise), Freeman, Id take Vini for another year as well...

How could you forget all those people?

I never mind if a player restructures but RJF takes up 4.28% of the cap  His cap hit is not going to stop the Colts from signing anyone they want.  And I think his production warrants 4.28% of the cap.

Dlineman are very important and he played 60.7% (2nd only to Redding among the dline) of the snaps and played effectively during that time.

Ya, I'm not saying he should restructure and I don't think that he should be cut. He may be somewhat overpaid for the production but I think he's a decent player that is underappreciated for his versatility.

    • If the Football Gods finally bless Rich Eisen and Rodgers somehow makes it:    SF - Loss NE - Win Buff - Win PITT - Win Hou - Win IND - Win   Really the stiffest competition is against the 49ers.
    • Catch -22 Does he not blitz at a higher rate (we are at the lower end of the middle of the pack) because his Ballard believes in bigger slower (4.5's) corners that can't cover go routes? BTW, if neither corner has deep speed it freezes your single high safety to the middle of the field, and Deep. IMO, Ballard's corner theory makes our single high safety look brainless.  Franklin gets chewed up good when he drops into cover 2. As I recall a 75% completion rate, 10+ per reception, and his Yac is more than the catch depth. He just stands there when guys leak out in front of him. Mike Singletary would rip his head off for not getting in there and meeting the ball.
    • One thing I just saw was the Colts were bottom 4 of the league in giving up rushing TDs. That helps explain the Davis signing to some degree.    They also gave up 62 passing plays for 20+ yards. Thats a lot considering the consensus seems to be our secondary gives a large cushion.     The more I dive into stats, the more I see Ballard called it how it is. We need to be more explosive on offense and give up less big plays on defense.  The Colts rank in the middle in most categories. Looks like the big plays really hurt this team. Will be interesting if the increased pass rush and experience in the secondary helps improve this defense. I think it will.
    • This hideous schedule proves networks love of heroes (Rodgers) over competition. Wouldn't it be a shame if Rodgers went down again in the first game for the entire schedule? It would be the greatest example of egg on the face of the NFL. Of the six games here how many of them will the Jets win? 9/9 SF 9/19 NE 10/14 Buff 10/20 Pitt 10/31 Hou 11/17 Indy
    • I think people underestimate Flowers' ability to be a shut down corner. If he stays healthy he will have a breakout season imo.    I love our D-line and think they are top 5 in the league. I have high hopes for Latu and think he will deliver double digit sacks, even as a rookie. His pass rush win% in college was top notch, Bosa-esque, if not better. He is DPOY material.    Our LB's are solid and we will probably sign a proven vet at safety.
