Rogers is a beast.  He is in the best place possible for career development with Luck as the QB and  Wayne, Hilton, the newly-acquired Nicks and two stud TE's as the other primary targets.  Could there be a stronger receiving corps for a young guy to grow up with?

I believe, honestly, that opposing DC's are already in near-panic mode trying to figure out how to handle what they will face this coming season.

Of course, the old injury bug may be their only prayer.

I like Rogers and he and Whalen are the reasons why I think signing Nicks was a bad idea.  But being behind Wayne, Hilton and Nicks and two TEs is not good for his development.  The only way a player truly develops is by playing in games.  And unless as you state the injury bug hits Rogers will not be playing a lot in games.

Not sure what town/planet you're from. But there's this thing called fatigue. It's when players get tired from running & playing in the game. So what happens is the depth players get to play too & if we're lucky, our fabolous offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton will rotate guys too. It's absolutely awesome how fatigue plays in football. You should see it!!!

They are receivers not d lineman. How often does a healthy Reggie pull himself out of a game?

Sir- My unstated thought was that #87 will likely only be with the Colts another year or so, and who knows what happens with Nicks after a season. I was trying to say this is a great environment for a young receiver to learn his craft.  :^)

That's nice, that has no bearing on what I stated, however,  When Wayne leaves or hangs up his cleats that just means that Rogers will be another year or two behind on his development.  Practice is good and necessary but he cannot learn his craft, develop or any other word or phrase you want to use unless he gets on the field during a game.  So what I'm saying is, having three veteran WRs in front of you is great for learning how to study film, prepare in the offseason, etc but a deterrent to learning his craft.

Aaron Rodgers would disagree

Reggie doesn't have a say. If Pep wants to rotate guys he will. We have the firepower (on paper. Things could change come regular season) to rotate people in & out at will

I'm quite sure reggie does have a say at this point in his career. You don't take a hall of famer off the field if he isn't tired

Waay before my time but still, touche

i think Andy dalton wears 14

Well I meant the last time a really good QB wore 14 :P lol.  Though unlike a lot of people, I don't think Dalton has quite hit his ceiling yet. He's not been great so far but I still think he has room to and the ability to improve.

Dan Marino 13 dag nabbit!

Do you mean Marino? Montana was #16 in SF and #19 in KC I think.

Yes I did definitely mean Marino, not Montana.

I actually hate receivers having numbers in the teens. I understand why it was done.  Receivers and TEs only had from 80-89.  I think if they were going to open up numbers, I would have preferred the 40s.  Don't see them used as much.   Be like Paul Warfield and wear 42.  But again, I see the logic.  We have 1-19 for QB and kickers.  That is a lot of number for potentially 5 guys on a roster.

TEs can wear in the 40s

Like Coltsrule91 said, TE's can wear numbers in the 80's and 40's whereas WR's can wear numbers in the 80's or teens.

    • Why does Steichen play calling remind me so much of Frank Reich? 3 runs up the middle, then call a screen on 3rd and 17. He's had some really bad series play calling wise these last few games.  Speaking of, how is this team still so bad at running/defending screens still??    Franklin needs to be benched. That dude is doing his best Shaq Leonard impression and and he flat out sucks.    It would be nice to see a TE pass once a game for crying out loud.    That was a game of who's QB is less crappy. (not sure ours was better tbh) but that was brutal to watch.    AR has got to figure out his footwork. These sailing balls are out of control and happen way too often. Then when he tried to put touch on the pass, it's underthrown. They have got to devote more time to his mechanics.    I would've liked to see better blocking for JT. JT made some stuff happen, but he got stuffed quite often too. There are other runs beside up the middle there Steichen.    AR playing out of shotgun is getting old.    If Latu stays healthy, we got the steal of the draft.    I will say that if your O-line features Matt Pryor at guard, you're gonna have problems.
    • Can't keep having your safety be leading tackler. We will also lose Cross to injury if the rest of the team can't learn how to tackle.    Especially Franklin
    • I still think the inaccuracies and the sailing of his throws is masking the progress he's made as a QB. I think decision-making-wise and when it comes to reading the defense, he's on a very good trajectory. He looks like a QB who knows what he's doing, who knows where he needs to go with the ball. He probably needs to work on his timing with the receivers a bit and he needs to be a bit quicker with his decisions at times, but overall those are things a young QB will naturally get better at with time and experience.   Just take a moment and think about it - it feels like almost every single one of his worst looking throws are throws where he went through his progression, read the defense and made the right decision. Just the throws themselves were off. Some of them WAY OFF.    Now don't get me wrong, at some point he will need to start hitting those throws because at the end of the day what's the point of reading the defense and making the right decision if you sail the ball 5 yards over the receiver's head? If he doesn't get better at that, he will bust, because no team will have the patience for a vet QB who can't hit those type of throws with any consistency. I really hope the coaching staff is working with him on it and we see some progress by the end of the season.
