Elway just showed who is the boss around there with Dumervil's pay cut.

He was better off taking $8 mil. than going elsewhere and getting $4-5 mil. at best, given what pass rushers are being paid around the league with Avril being the best contract at $15 for 2 years.

Hope they still grab Freeney.

Like I said before move Wolfe inside to DT, and grab Freeney for your other DE.

Exactly agree with u but really in certain sitruations as do have that wakll of DTs now but would love an inmside push. Getting Freeney would allow multiple looks and would have to scheme to defend all those looks

Broncos, Elvis Dumervil agree on contract to keep him in Denver

After drawing $14 million in both the 2011 and 2012 seasons, the Broncos sought a reduction in Dumervil's salary in 2013 in exchange for adding guaranteed money in later years of his contract. Dumervil had been scheduled to make $10 million in 2014 and $8 million in 2015.

The Broncos had been trying to work it out with Dumervil. John Elway, the team's front-office boss, made multiple calls directly to Dumervil in recent days as did Del Rio

Not bad, I suppose this is going to be finalized tonight?

FA is thriving so much this year....

This years draft class appears to be weak.

Weak at top but deep threwout , Thatis no sure fire studs up their like last year but good qulaity for a long ways into it

He probably did that on purpose. I knew it.

I was thinking the other day he was going wait until the last minute to see if he can sneak one by the Broncos.

What does that gain him? He could have simply refused to agree. Now by agreeing to a certain number he's set a price for himself that other teams are aware of, but because he's screwed up the Broncos cap planning they may not be able to resign him (and he clearly wants to stay there) - unless he redoes the deal even less favorably. Just a foolish thing to do.

Playing mind games. Maybe he thought if he waited long enough the time would pass, and he gets to keep his $12M. It's a gamble. He knows he was only going to get $8M in the market. So maybe a desperate effort to keep his $12M.

Now this is a theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. If this is true I guess he didn't account for Elway being smart enough to watch the clock.

Then he's an :cuss: , and I'm ticked off that he has but a serious damper on what appeared to be a terrific cap management / free agency period. :sigh:

Elvis Dumervil has been released by the Broncos despite reaching an agreement with the team around 1:25 p.m. Friday.

The Broncos say Dumervil's agent Marty Magid didn't get a restructured contract signed in time

and the team had no choice but to release him.to protect themselves

The team didnt' get the fax with Dumervil's signature until 2:07 p.m., seven minutes and one second after the deadline.

The Broncos had to protect themselves at 1:59 p.m. when they had not received a signed deal. Had they not released Dumervil, $12 million would have been guaranteed.

The team could still re-sign Dumervil, but there are salary cap implications

. Dumervil's release gives the Broncos a huge dead money hit and limits their ability to bring him back with a new' deal.

MAKE THE AGENT PAY

I'd love to see them get Freeney (assuming they are confident that he can still play) but he would probably be in there for a lot less snaps them Dumervil would have been. It only works if he takes a much smaller contract.

I love Wolfe and one of his attributes of course is that he can play both positions. With the Knighton signing, they've got a WALL inside on rushing downs. Wolfe moves inside on passing downs, but I'm not sure that he should be there all the time. I'm thinking about how the Colts used - who was it - Montae Reagor? (spel). Quantities of quality players are how you build a defense of course, and they have a lot of exciting pieces. But this nonsense with Dumervil is a serious setback.

Can you imagine if they had managed to keep Dumervil, and then Freeney came in for one year at a modest price as a specialist and depth? ("I made untold millions last year and I'm almost done, I want a RING".)

Sorry what I saw was a twitter post. My Bad :)

You didn't do anything, and it sounds like you share my opinion of Twitter (and the quality of it's "content").

I was just sadly letting you know that I saw it on the Post, and then came here. In fact the headline that I clicked on at the Post said that he had resigned, and you could see some of the appropriate text underneath it. But when you clicked it was a completely different story and content. The entire thing is bizarre and irritating.

This definitely a setback for Denver. Freeney will most likely go to Denver now. Pats signed Abraham. They probably no longer need him. I hope they can figure out a way to get Doom back, but either way he will still make around $12M this season. I would be :cuss: if I was Elway. This is a low ball move by the agent.

Like you said there Dline would have been set! Wolfe as DT on passing downs with Freeney coming in would have been perfect.

I think we did that with both Reagor and Brock. I remember both at one point in time played DE then DT.

Well I am not a twitter fan but I just read that the Broncos cut him at 1:59 to keep from paying the previous salary and I thought he was given until 2:00 so this sounds like messed up situation in my opinion. Now the question is who messed up? :)

Right, forgot about Brock. They were both solid players.

Are you saying that you think that the agent was thinking he'd get money from the Broncos as they dump him, and then they'd resign him and he'd end up back at 12? I don't know enough about his contract. I was assuming that any dead cap hit would be related to the acceleration of previous bonuses or something, not that they are obligated to give him more now. If he was going to get cash in return for them dumping him, then it would have been a no-brainer for him to simply refuse to renegotiate. He could take his millions and then sign with the highest bidder. If the Broncos DO have to give him $4 mil now, and he wants to come back to them, I'd say that his salary for the current year just dropped in half. It seems unlikely that the team would let themselves be "taken" like that, nor that the agent would be naive enough to think that they would.

This is so bad. The fax came at 4:06! Are you kidding me? Well at least you got the 6mil slot man. This is hilarious. I bet hoddie did jam the fax machine. Serioulsy, I think someone is lying. Either Dumerville did not want to stay and tried to save face or Elway was out to lunch on this. Either way this looks terrible....

No, that's not it. The Broncos weren't trying to cut him, they were trying to keep him. If he didn't sign by 2:00 his entire $12 mil salary for the season would have become guaranteed. He didn't sign despite a week of negotiation (and multiple personal phone calls from Elway and the coaches entreating him to stay) so they cut him.

Seven minutes later the fax came through with his contract. FX says that he signed at 1:30 but the agent faxed it over late. I'm HOPING that the league will agree that there was some sort of forgivable mix-up and the contract can go through, but I doubt it. All sides get hurt by this - including the agent, who is probably running for the border as we speak.

Well I was saying the Broncos have a dead hit of $5M. I'm not a cap guy, but that means they have to pay him his $5M. So if he gets a new contract from where ever he'll get mabye $7M from some else then the $5M from the Broncos due to dead hit. Giving him the $12M.

Crazy theory maybe, but everything about this is crazy.

If I was Doom I'd sign a contract worth $3M this year, then have the same #'s for the following years as the last contract. That is if he TRULY wants to stay in Denver.

Definitely. If he just made a hugh mistake he just cost a guy $8M. Although Doom could be in on a scheme. Look like a guy guy, but have the papers filed late.

I don't know. Crazy happening in Denver.

Not Crazy, Rahim Moore Was covering the faxing by the agent to make sure it arrived in time but he was out of position to act as was lined up on wrong side of room to see

Pretty bad but so is this situation, , he shpould sign for half,

Have to go now
