i think it depends on the prospect. like if we're drafting and its between either the number one rated SS vs the number three rated OG. you would think we'd take the safety even if guard is more important.

Oh, you meant specific to the draft. Absolutely, draft the better player not the more needed one.

To be clear, both are typically positions where teams do NOT spend a 1st round draft pick on UNLESS there is a premium player available. Because you can typically get a SS or OG in later rounds, or certainly after the 1st.

I'm not sure if you're couching your comment in terms of which is the bigger priority, or the bigger priority for the 1st round?

For me, for this year at least, I'd say OG, only because my number one priority is protecting Andrew and making the offense run properly. We are a well below average pass blocking team, and a horrible run blocking team. So, Guard over Safety would be my priority.

That said, we certainly need another top-notch Safety. I'm talking starter material.

In terms of just the three picks we know we have, 1, 3 and 4... (we'll figure out other possible picks later) my priority would be offensive line first, best pass rusher in the 3rd, Safety in the 4th...

Now, all of that could change depending on what we do in Free Agency, as well as where we select in the draft.

Lots of variables. Too early to know. But those are my priorities as of late September.

The SS would be more important for early rounds in a Tampa 2, not as much in the current system. A FS that can play SS would help if available in the right round starting 2 and later, IMO.

If it was Eric Reid vs Jonathon Cooper, I would choose Reid. Cooper is a very good prospect, but Reid could be the next Polamalu.

OG for sure. Biggest upgrade over any other position. However Grigs is a BPA guy.
