If the Browns can just win in week 1...who knows!?!?! I'm not picking the Browns to win that 1 BUT they do steal a game from Pittsburgh every year and I don't think Pittsburgh is going to exactly run that division.

Steal a game from them every year?

The Browns have beat Pittsburgh only 4 total times since coming back into the league. 3 at home, and once in Pittsburgh back in 1999.

Unless you mean the real Cleveland Browns, the ones that wear purple and black, they do tend to give the Steelers a run for their money and steal a game from them yearly. Everyone should know by now the Ravens are the real Browns, and the Browns of today are a new franchise. Hence the reason the old Cleveland/Pittsburgh rivalry has thrived so much under Baltimore's name.

I'll withhold my comments about him until after he's played a season or two in the NFL.

Coming from Ohio, and having many friends and family members that are Brown's fans, year in and year out,  I guess I am hoping for them that the team can finally get out of the funk they've been in for so many years...  Not convinced he's the answer, but you never know.... :dunno:

I admire your balanced approach Gramz. My only point is this: It's good to lay low as a rookie under the media radar until you prove that you can dissect defenses & adapt to the speed of NFL football.

They've been my sleeper super bowl pick for the last 25 years. :(

Now that is fan loyalty & team dedication Le Neon. I respect that level of commitment.

Ah yes, Skip Bayless's QB golden boy. Where is he now? Fantastic college career; longevity in the pros...Not so much.

There has been a Tebow sighting in Pro Wrestling...just remember..all you have to do is..BO-LIEVE!!  make sure you watch the entrance..he even Tebow's (backwards)..and gives his opponent at the end an inspirational speech after taking a victory lap..(the name would really be appropriate if Tebow made it as the QB for the Dallas Cowboys..

Well , the Saints were nearly the Ravens, remember ?

True. But trading up for a player usually means you have plans to have him be your starter for a longtime, and sooner rather than later.

Do you still wish that your team had drafted him? As much as I liked him, he has been too much of a distraction. I hope he matures fast and has a successful career. Browns fans need something to look forward to.

Honestly...not really. I am still a huge fan of the guy and like you I'm rooting for him to succeed but based on early reports one of our quarterbacks has been decent and another quite sharp in camp. It is still way too early, I know, but I think the Clowney pick will pay off much better long-term for this defense. I am more than positive that we will address QB early next year in the Draft...but I'm hoping we pick number 31 or 32 :P

Yeah… sometimes trading down pays off.   :)

Ha yeah if we have to so be it...as long as the farm, deer, and horses aren't given up. Even if Fitzpatrick proves adequate this year we still gotta get a franchise guy as soon as possible lol.

I'm not a big Bortles fan so I guess by default I agree with what HTn did in the draft.

Glad to hear the QBs are doing fairly well. Which one is looking sharp?

I was relieved that the Vikings did not draft Manziel. Early in camp (just 2 days), it seems like Cassel will be the starter over the fan favorite, Bridgewater. It's still early. :)

I think a problem with Manziel is that he is overly confident. I don't recall if it was you or a Browns fan whose name has 3 letters (KBJ or KBG or something like that) who got on me for suggesting that Manziel may not work hard because he may be overly confident in his abilities. Sal Paolantonio seemed to suggest the same today on sports talk radio.

Three words:

White Oil Money

I don't want threads going OT....but I can honestly say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

There were very vocal opinions about how manziel's off field ventures would cost him money come draft time.  I assume that meant teams were wary of hiring a rather unlikeable fellow.  (In addition to being wary of his dedication).

It seems his likeability or dislikeability on a personal level has nothing to do with assisting or impeding business.  I assumed, and still do, that people would root for him and buy his merchandise because he is a talented player who, as a QB, is in a position to make plays for his team.

Nothing I said was ambiguous.

Yeah me either. I'm not entirely convinced that he will be good but the potential is definitely there, it's up to the Jaguars to get it out of him.

Fitz is the guy. BOB seems to have found the right match for his offense. Of course this is just TC but so far so good.

I'm not too surprised by the Cassel news. He has the experience and he knows the playbook better. Who knows though, if Teddy can get the playbook down pat and if he keeps those gloves on :) I think he'll be starting much sooner. I think Ponder said something a while back about the coaches being determined to have Teddy as the starter but maybe I'm misremembering things. Even so, the best player earns the nod, so if Cassel outperforms him and he has to wait and learn, it may not entirely be a bad thing for the guy.

As for Manziel, I recall a recent media report that the Browns coach believes that Manziel's only enemy is his playbook, or his knowledge of it is the only thing standing in his way. I think that suggests that once he masters it, he will be the guy...or maybe I'm reading too much into it, Idk. I do think he can have a personality off the field and still come in and get the work done because he's no fool. He knows the attention that he is getting, and he knows how his teammates are going to react if he can't perform. It's up to him to win them over.

I am a fan of Fitz. There are a lot of games he gave a scar to NE with a bad bills team.

I really hope with the great defense in Texans, he will flourish.

I hope so too, because I think there is a short leash. I remember those Bills days too. As long as the turnovers are cut down the guy can get it done.

I guess you meant that the white guy who owns the Browns and the Flying J truck stops is buying up all the merchandise to save face about his draft choice?

I think it's more his cult of college fans buying their first nfl jerseys. Didn't something similar happen when Tebow was drafted?

Oh.  I didn't realize that rich white kids with an oil background that went to Texas A&M were is only fans, but I don't follow that social stuff that closely.

I didn't follow Tebow.  He wasn't on my radar until he started for the Broncos and went like 6-2 or something.

Not all of his fans are rich white kids with an oil background @ Texas A&M. But if you are a rich white kid with an oil background @ Texas A&M you're probably a Manziel fan. It's an ideal demo for him.

That's probably a statistical fact.  Of course, that doesn't mean that being white and rich is the reason they want to buy his merchandise. .

He will wash out of the league quick. Trading up for him is hilarious. Way to make good use of that free 1st round pick we gave them

Almost as hilarious as trading for Trent Richardson, eh?

He hasn't even had a full practice in pads and he's already out of the league quick. Right, because there has never been guys who love to party that did well in the NFL.....That has never happened.

It's the Browns. . . they are a case study in poor team management for years now.

Honestly it's to the point where I feel like you could find a lot of NFL fans off the street, make them GM of the Browns and they would do a better job.

Most people I know wouldn't have drafted Weeden in the first and a lot of them wouldn't have traded up for Manziel.

None that play qb . Certainly not one before he ever stepped on the field. Reports are he doesn't have a grasp on the playbook yet. Wow, I'm so shocked
