Defense Shines Monday

Defense shines today at practice. Freeney had continuous pressures on Luck. Redding scooped up a fumble on a botched reverse and high stepped for a touchdown. Luck goes 15-29. He hit LaVon Brazil on a bomb td. Reggie Wayne also had two scores. He also threw a ball up for grabs that Bethea easily picked off. Donnie Avery has a thigh contusion doubtful for the preseason opener against the Rams but it's nothing serious.

"AVERY IS DOWN?

LUCK IS 50% COMPLETIONS?!?! bust!

NOOOOooooooo"

this is the new "Colts d is soft"

i see this as a positive. again. Luck getting pressure, better prepared for 'game speed NFL football' get the kinks out. the only concern is the ball Bethea was able to "camp under" for an easy pick. clearly an atrocious throw or decision or both.

and the D maning up and bringing to wood is awsome! i love it!

Thanks for the notice, that's good to know. We know the offense will be decent if the O-Line gels as we expect. The weapons are there.

The D scares me. I expect we'll get beat deep a lot this year. But it's good to know they're getting after it.

Oh, one other thing. Phil Wilson needs to do an exercise where he pushes away from the table a little quicker. He looks like a heart attack waiting to happen.

Better to get beat deep for a 60 yard TD then to let the opponent drive down the field in 4 yard intervals, that culminates in a TD anyway.....not to mention an extremely gassed defense.

I've been saying that for years. Especially if we get beat while being aggressive. I have no problem with that.

Besides it gets the O back on the field quicker.

Of course it all depends on the time and score...but for real we have a much better chance of stopping them and many more opportunities to get off the field with no points if we aren't giving up big plays. I want us to be aggressive and take a few chances too which hopefully get us some more stops or turnovers but I don't want to see bombs like we gave up to Atlanta...of course getting torched by NO isn't much better. We just want to shut teams down...and give up as few points as possible.

I think the front 7 will be improved this year....I think we have opportunities there...the secondary has me scared I won't lie. On the opposite side of the ball I know we have play makers and I think we should have a better running game. I worry if the line will be able to give Luck time to throw. We are an EXTREMELY young team...we are going to have ups and downs....Luck as well...part of the process and hopefully the learning comes quick.

    • You will held to account for your positivity, sir.
    • Ok, here's my prediction. Both Flacco and Ehlinger will be on the team this year.  And for similar reasons. Flacco is here expressly to lead the team to the playoffs as a seasoned veteran quarterback, in case AR5 gets injured again. Ehlinger is here in case both quarterbacks go down, if they just need somebody to play. Next year? Flacco will probably not be here, simply because of his age. Ehlinger will probably not be here, simply because there's no reason to give him a contract beyond his rookie deal. I predict that next year, we will sign yet another seasoned veteran quarterback.  To do the exact same thing that Flacco is here to do.  Lead the team to the playoffs in case AR5 is hurt. And I also predict we draft another mid-round quarterback.  For the same reason Ehlinger is here.  To be an inexpensive guy to play the position just in case both quarterbacks go down.   Who is my veteran quarterback for next year?  I'm guessing Andy Dalton.  No, he's not my choice for starter.  But if I needed a guy to back up AR5, who's a "been there, done that" kind of guy, to play just in case...  Yeah, I would think so.
    • This is footage from just one game. The big game be had against the Titans.   And this isn't about the catches he made that game. It's the missed opportunities of what could of been. Find time to watch this, worth it, well if you care to see how open he usually is. Not just deep either.     This is just one game, it is like this every game.(Maybe not to this extreme, this is bad)   This clip, shows just how open Pierce usually is and how Minshew held him back, as well as the whole team.   Pittman and Downs were short options, and easier for Minshew to get the ball out to, that's why it didn't effect them(negatively). It actually benefited them.     Not to worried about it, now the team is just even more explosive.   AR JT Pittman Pierce  Downs  Mitchell      On the field at the same time in some formations. I'm here for it. Can you imagine the running lanes JT would have? Hate to be these defenses and have to face this offense, with this OL.     Then able to add a 4-5 deep TE room to it. Another 4.38, 4.43 WR to the mix(Gould, Dulin)
    • Pierce wasn't  the best route runner , but Pierce was good at getting  open deep, but the deep ball wasn't  really minshew game that is why people  say Pierce was held back by minshew arm.
