Just look at that accuracy! Richardson is a far cry from that kind of QB play

Duh...Luck had much more college experience. Also, I'll bet you AR won't stiff the organization and leave it hanging by abruptly quiting 2 weeks before the season.

The man was probably terrified of getting injured again, I don’t blame him for deciding to hang ‘em up. He had just gotten married if I recall correctly and he was rightfully thinking about life after football.

I agree with the comment “probably terrified…”

I cannot remember which commentator mentioned that Mr. Luck was the most hit QB in the NFL. I got so frustrated to see him get sacked or hit after passes.

I bet he could tell which stadium’s grass had the best and worst flavor and which stadium had the softest artificial turf.

Who let this happen for two to three years?  Pagano and the higher up muckedy mucks!🫥

I don’t know how much pressure it takes to be tackled to cause a ruptured liver. Anybody else know?

🤨

Yes, I was excited to see him comeback but I took his surprised retirement as a smart thing to do.

He was too nice to say, “Hey coach,

Cheese's Fries, I getting my butt handed to me!” but would say “Someone will have to replace the chunk I grass I took out with my teeth on the 50 yard line, someone could get hurt!”😇

Andrew Luck could have won a SB with the our Colts. I would bet coach p

and others, probably felt the same way I did that they should have opened up their tight wallets to protect him with a better OL. 😕

AR5 has a long way to go before I can compare him to Andrew’s greatness.

Well, I feel it will never happen.

It’s just a gut feeling I have, or it could be just “ gas.”😳

There might not be anyone that saw what I saw or agree with my comments but Mr. Luck is probably happy and healthy with his life as we speak…type.

I would bet that he hopes that AR5 has a successfully long and healthy career with our Colts…and to not be afraid to speak up if he starts to taste artificial turf, frequently!😕

Go, Colts youngest fans!

While I will agree our O line sucked when Luck was QB, he wasn't in the pocket when his spleen was ruptured.

He scrambled and took on a linebacker down field. Not sure but I think it was against Denver.

Luck never slid and protected himself, he ran like a fullback.

A few things.

First let me say that I loved Luck as the Colts QB and would have been more than happy to have him be the Colts QB through his 40 age.  He is one of my all time favorite Colts.  Can not say enough good things about him.   If things had been right and gone right?  He could have been one of the all time greats.  But.....

That being said.   To start he never loved football the way many guys do.  He was probably too smart for his own good.  For example he never put in the hours of film study that Manning did.

Two....he was never accurate as people were led to believe and that he was 'supposed' to be.   For being such a meticulous passer, his completion % was never that great.

Third, I never thought his throwing motion was all that great.  He had a tendency to almost guide the ball instead of slinging it.  And it got much worse as his shoulder issues got worse.   Think of it like a pitcher who tries to place/guide a pitch instead of just letting it go naturally.

I really noticed it the very last game he played....in the playoffs against the Chiefs.  He looked terrible.  All of his throws looked like he was not confident in his ability, shoulder, health.   He was literally trying to place the ball to each WR and I remember telling my wife watching the game how bad he looked.  His throwing motion looked like a putter who has the yips.

Sure enough he never played another game.  I really think a BIG part of his retirement was because he did not have the confidence you need to play at a high level anymore.   I mean, lets face it we were all flummoxed when he retired because health wise?  He looked fine.

IMO his retirement was almost all mental and not physical.  Someone mentioned earlier that he was terrified to get hurt again.  And to me?  That is how he looked playing at the end.  Timid.  Whether that was from all the injuries he received?  I don't know.  But something happened to him that made him lose confidence and I think he knew it.  Hence he gave it up.

Yeah.  People talk about AR taking hits when he doesn't need to...and that is true.  But the fact is Luck took wayyyyyyyyyy more hits than he ever should have from his scrambling.  But people loved that about him.  Different narrative with AR.   Probably because Luck played most of his games starting out despite being injured  and AR has hardly played while being injured.

Luck's pain tolerance was off the charts.  AR's?  Not so much.

I won't ever try to guess how much someone else is hurting. If you can't play at a high level because of a injury, you should sit,

If it's something that is more of an annoyance get out there.

That was the closest we ever came to being a championship team post manning era. Stupid cheating Pats and their deflated balls

Didn't the Colts lose that game like 45-10?

Cheating or not, that’s not why the Colts lost.  The Pats were the much better team.

Luck carried a below average team to the championship game. The outcome vs the dynasty Patriots isn't really a surprise in hindsight

Such a shame the Colts took 7 years to give him an offensive line to play behind during his career. If Luck had a top-10 offensive line and respectable running game during those early years he would have been in the MVP conversation every year. The amount of wins he was able to rack up without much of a supporting cast still blows my mind.

As great as Luck was, he did only complete 54% of his passes his rookie season. He just found ways to win by executing late in games and using his legs. We won 11 games that season too.

Zero pass blocking or running game is the main reason behind that stat. He did take the team to the playoffs though. 12 was carrying the entire organization on his back those first three years.

I don’t know if it was confidence or if he was just in pain all the time. He said that he was worn out from getting hurt, rehabbing and getting hurt again. His identity was not that of just being a football player. He was too reckless for sure but Irsay and Pags and Sweaty Grigson ruined his career. It stings to think how good the Colts could have been with Luck if he was helped by the front office. Anyone comparing Luck to AR must not have watched the games.

Dear God, I hate when people who don’t know Luck write terrible posts like this jumping to all sorts of wrong conclusions.

What a hot mess.   Sigh…

I understand your frustration and POV. But it wouldn’t be the first time someone realized they didn’t want to do something right as the looming prospect/pressure of it became a reality for them. His timing ideally would have been better, but the human psyche is an enigma.

I am a Colt fan.  I don't claim to know why Luck decided to walk away but the timing of it put this team back big time.  Regardless of his reasons his choice damaged this this team big time. Becoming a millionaire sure made it convenient to walk away

Even in hindsight  no qb in the 2019 draft would have saved us. Perhaps  landing herbert or love in 2020 could have but then we would have no Buckner

FWIW:   This has always been my understanding.

Luck hurt his ankle/lower leg at the Pro Bowl.   He was ready to retire in March.  The team convinced him to give his injury time to heal.  That whether he retired in March or August made no difference because the franchise was going with Brissett to replace him, so the timing didn’t matter.

The ankle didn’t heal and Luck told the team in August he was retiring.   The news leaked out and many have been angry with Luck ever since.

There’s more to this story, but for now, this is enough.

I cannot stand when people like you write posts like this.  I went into great detail about why I think what happened.....happened. Rightly or wrongly at least I put effort and thought into my opinion.

You?  Just lash out with zero thought or IQ behind what you say.  Just pure hyperbole.

Please tell me of another NFL player of Lucks magnitude who quit on his team a week before the season started after playing the season before and having no setbacks during the off season. (unless he went snow boarding again).    And who looked healthy and was even warming up and looked fine in the last pre season game.   No one does that.  He was mentally not all there at that point and the fact he felt the need to go out in front of the home fans and tantalize them with being healthy, after a preseason of drama concerning his health...again after he just played the entire year before?  I thought it was ridiculous and he should have been boo'd for that.

Praise him later.  But that entire thing was him being mentally weak.

I will tell you who does that.  A person who is not all there mentally.  He even admitted that later on.  He was shook.  Had no confidence.  Was worn out.  Mentally not into playing NFL football.

And looking back at it?  It goes along with what I wrote earlier. He always got by on his smarts and physical attributes.  But when it was time to truly be great?  His heart was never in it.  And again I say this as a giant Luck fan.

IMO he will look back on that decision some day and regret it bigtime.

No.  He hurt his lower leg/ankle snow boarding and it was never the same after.  Again this goes back to what I said.  His heart was never into football.  He never should have been snowboarding.  I have a friend who was killed doing that.  Why is a top NFL QB doing that in that off season?  I thought it was ridiculous.  Love the guy but just a terrible decision.

    • Unless a team is willing to give up a pick in the first three rounds (which will never happen) then no. Let him sit behind and mentor AR5 on his one-year nearly $9 million dollar deal.
