Who played that spot last year?  Cross will cover more meaningful ground by week 5 than any of those guys.  JMO.

Edit: Or even Blackmon if he switches to full time centerfielder.

Is Cross playing free?  I thought it was Blackmon and that Macloed dude at Free. I am not sure what we have going there.  I have always thought that Blackmon's skillset was more suited for SS.

There is a lot of ground to cover in Bradley's D for the the free.  Not so much or often with Flus.

I don't even know who played free after Blackmon went down.  but i do know he grades way higher on plays in front than behind.

I think we played a fair amount of C3 last year, and somebody played it.  Sandejo?  At the safety position, we had Willis,  Sandejo and who knows who else.

I think McLoed, Blackmon, and Cross is very much an upgrade.  Not sure where each will play, but the unit is pretty nice, IMO.

All those rookies is kind of scary. The depth is so bad.

I don’t disagree.  By the same token, I think Ballard probably figures that if we lose some DBs for the year, veterans who can contribute immediately (like Tony Brown or Will Redmond) can be easily added…

I believe the influx of the young players comes back to Irsay’s all in comment. They want players that want to win no matter what and generally young players are more hungry.

Also when you have guys on big contracts, as the Colts are starting to have a guys get into their second contracts, you are going to have more young guys on the end of the roster because they are cheap.

I think Sandejo then Odum.  I was only talking about deep coverage.   Blackmon wasn't good at that.

I think Cross is the eventual deep FS in C3.  He has the range, and the preseason looked like he has good enough instincts.  McCloed will probably start the season there.

Yannick "may" pressure the QB...  jibberish jibberish while being so small.

 Like Mathis.

 What position will Cross play?

What an ankle bitter that sees a lion in the mirror.  :funny:

Has JB been doing the 1st team reps?  he was the 2nd day of camp when I was there.   Not much you can see on TV in the limited pre season play

Vikings just traded for Raegor from the Eagles.  Day three picks.  I gotta believe Ballard is working the phones for more help.  He loves to trade.

"Hey Lynch, how would like to trade us that studmuffin Trent Williams? I'm willing to send you a big shiny 7th rounder!!"

You do throw BBs BBZ.  Impotent little harmless BBz.

Some of the rest of us use bombs and bullets.

We were notoriously bad v the run with Mathis Bebes.  More impotency.

I hear Pfizer makes a product for that little bbs problem.  Or you could quit skipping leg day and do some real squats.

The small is in reference to playing run.  In a completely different scheme that the T2 Mathis played in .

6’9”, 325 and you don’t know what we see in Murray?

It doesn’t matter what he is today.   He’ll be better tomorrow.    And he’ll still be 6’9” 325.    He’s on the PS, not the 53.    We hope to develop him……

As bad as Murray looked in game 1 and it was bad, he did show some improvement and looked better than Van Denmark.

I don't know who has gotten 1st team FS reps.  I think Ballard believes Blackmon is the FS, having now done it with Flus and now maybe Gus.  I just think Cross' profile in college sounds more like a FS than a SS, and eventually ends up there.

They are both young and I assume that Gus will sort out who is more proficient at what.  New coaching may mean new skills acquired, but that takes time.   I think that's why we added the veteran presence in McCleod,

Will McCleod be better than Sandejo?  I think so.

Edit: my instincts comment for Cross came from him apparently getting picks and near picks while playing wherever.  Sees the play in front of him, I figure.  And he played the position at Maryland.

Mathis was about the identical size and definitely was pretty bad against the run. The ONLY reason Mathis played so many snaps was because we played from ahead so much. He was purely a PR Specialist.

In the meantime, Yannick will play the EXACT ROLL that FREENEY played from the Exact same position. Wide 9.

And yes that is DESIGNED to take him out of run stopping position. Dungy said do it! Gus says do it!  So that MAKES HIM bad at stopping the run?
 I don't think so sweetheart.
Cato June made a Pro Bowl covering that gap. Now it will be OKE's job. Oke is getting pretty darn good.

I have not been that impressed with Reagor. He played 2/3 of the snaps for the Eagles the past two seasons and never posted more than 33 catches or 396 yds/only 299 yds in 2021. Players like Beasley, Fuller, TY, OBJ, Agholor, E. Sanders and even Travis Fulgham who is on the Packers practice squad have all posted better numbers than that.

We are good, should be really good in front.  That is what an aggressive C3 Bradley D is designed to be strong at, and that is what Blackmon and Shaq are particular good at doing, making big plays in front.  But its the seems, deep alleys, and over the top that is a weakness inherent in the scheme.  Blackmon was already pretty deficient over the top, and as a FS in C3 his deep and alley responsibility will be much much greater than the mainly conservative 2 high schemes Flus played.

I'm certainly not saying it's not going to work.  It's largely dependent on the DLINE play though man.  That is the absolute key.  They need to play as great as the investment in them.  If they do, then any problems we'd possibly have in the secondary will be largely moot.

Oh I've said I am not sure if Freeney was bad against the run or it was just the T2 scheme that made us so impotent.

We were terrible against the run.  The only time we weren't was when Sanders could play for that year and a half.  His body couldn't handle it.

Listen DollFace, Cato might have made a Pro Bowl, but we were a terrible run defending team.

There is no doubt that Yannick is a bad run defender.  You are an Army of one on that if you don't agree.  However, the Bradley front doesn't necessarily take him or the Big End out of every run play by running him straight up the field.  That is a major difference.

So far....

Roster

  • + Luke Tenuta OL (Bills)
    • Wiki - Tenuta was selected in the sixth round, 209th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.[1][2] On August 30, 2022, he was released by the Bills.
    • NFL.com - Tall tackle with predictable leverage issues, creating difficulties in both run and pass phases. Tenuta is a segmented mover who lacks desired play strength. His issues are made worse by erratic hand placement, but coaching could improve his hands, which would alleviate some of his strength concerns. He won't shine as a drive blocker or move blocker. And his pass-protection issues are more physical in nature, making them harder to correct. He's a potential undrafted free agent and could struggle to compete at the pro level.
  • - Tony Brown DB (release... - PS later, ???)

Waiver

  • - Weatherford  - Bears

PS

This is certainly good news for our roster:

The player formerly known as Darius is trending toward a positive start to the 2022 season.

Shaquille Leonard is participating in the Colts' Wednesday practice, per multiple reporters on the scene in Indianapolis.

I saw today that the Rams signed 17 players to their practice squad. Is 17 the maximum PS number or can we have 18 with our international player?

Well, that's why I think Cross is here for the future, and McCleod for the present.  You threw me with the question of where JB and NC were playing in TC and preseason, because I knew that JB has usually planned to play FS under Flus and that's what Ballard wanted when Willis was on the field.  I don't know how much that ever came to fruition.

I think Cross was drafted to play single high.  Who plays it before he is ready, I couldn't say.
