Analyzing the Indianapolis Colts’ confusing but talent-rich 2022 QB room.

Behind Ryan and Foles is second-year man Sam Ehlinger and undrafted rookie free agent Jack Coan. The team and to a degree fans know what there is with Ehlinger. Coan is the unknown who also possesses the higher ceiling. It’s plausible that the Indianapolis Colts choose Coan over Ehlinger. Keep an eye on how these two perform in the preseason games.

Interesting article. Havent thought about Coan much cause nothing has been reported coming out of camp that Im aware of. ???

He might could beat out Ehlinger. ???

Coan is likely the better pure passer of the two. But not all that excited about either.

We're set at 1 and 2. Don't really care beyond that. Hope we keep only 2 on the 53 so we can stash another player with perhaps a higher ceiling on the 53. I think both Sam and Coan would make it to the PS.

Our future, long-term QB is yet to be drafted. AND he isn't on the roster today

It may take a QB 2-3 years to develop

Ryan is 37 this year.......   37

Most QBs have retired by this point

I HOPE that we use our first or second round pick this year on someone to develop at QB

If we get 2-3 years from Ryan while a kid gets up to speed

Foles is NOT the answer......

I 100% agree

Coan and Sam are late picks for a reason.... They Arent the QBs of the future

2023 Draft seems to have 6-7 QBs that may go in rounds 1 and 2

At this stage, we should have 3 picks in first 2 rounds

If the right guy is there in round 1 (or 2) we should make a move

Not even going to remotely think about drafting a QB at this point lol.

But yes, neither Sam or Coan are QB1 material.

More or less fighting for emergency depth position.

I just thought maybe he had more power to sneak for a yard if needed.

I just am reminded of those countless highlights where Dan Quinn or Mike Smith went for a 4th & 1 and the Falcons' OL couldn't convert on the ground. Reich would just throw it to someone in the flat :).

Since we are talking third-string QBs - I don't think it really matters which one ends up sticking with the team on the practice squad.

One variable for Ehlinger over Coan is that he has had a year in Frank Reich's system - so no "learning curve" is necessary.

IDK.

JB perhaps had that type of value as QB2. Big strong body that could power through the OL.

I don't see Sam having that. Probably not going to keep a 3rd for a poor man's JB.

For starters….    Do the Colts really have a “talent rich QB room”?!?     Really?

QB1: Ryan might be ranked 12-16 for starters.

QB2: Foles might be ranked 5-8 for backups.

QB3: Ehlinger might be ranked 25-32 for depth

QB4:  Coan might be roughly the same as Sam.

Does all this really add up to a QB room anyone would call “talent rich”?!?    I don’t think so.
