Deebo Samuel requests trade

I doubt we could afford him at this point and I sure as hell don't want to trade away more draft picks. I don't want a whiner on our team anyway. Boo hoo, the team isn't using me the way I want...so what if it worked so well? This is all about me....

Where does it say he requested a trade?

if you havent seen it, he legit did ask for a trade seemingly. By reliable sources.

And all indications are it is not just money but more-so related to his use.

SF spent the second half of the year using him in the backfield a lot. He took a lot of hits and on top of that his receiving numbers came way down. Double whammy for a big pay day and for his longevity. So sounds like he wants to get paid and go somewhere as a pure WR

I think the Jets would be a perfect landing spot

Agreed,

At the end of the day, the teams that make the most sense are those that have multiple 1st round picks in this draft and also are in win-now mode or have a young QB they are trying to build around that they need to get a WR1 for.

In this draft that means:

Eagles

Chiefs

Packers

Jets

No way the Giants, Texans, Seahawks or lions should be going down that path until they have QB settled.

The Deebo stuff to me is fascinating. What makes his so valuable and unique is his skill set and that he is a unicorn in terms of his versatility. However, it is that versatility and uniqueness that he seemingly is rallying against as he wants to not be used as much running the ball and be more of a pure WR (allegedly).

If that is true, it makes sense from a health and career longevity stance. Also from a "WRs get paid, RBs do not and versatile options like Patterson did not either" stance.

Buuuut, if he is not going to be used in the way that made him so special, is he really worth what he is asking to be paid? On top of the crazy pick compensation to get him as well?

His first half of last year showed his ability as a pure WR weapon, but that was a half a year. I can't wait to see how his situation shakes out.

Saw an article regarding this.  The article stated that: the Colts — who have historically been aggressive under Ballard in the trade market using draft picks to acquire veterans (DeForest Buckner, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Yannick Ngakoue)

So two years,  including this year constitutes historical and aggressive?

Some writers...

Well….  Technically, it’s three years.

2020: Buckner

2021:  Wentz

2022:  Ngokwe,  Ryan.

Given that Ballard is now into his 5th season,  I don’t think it’s an unreasonable observation.

That said,  considering the cost in picks to make a deal, then his large contract, I’d guess the chances of a trade for Samuel to be less than 1 percent.   Honestly.

    • Loved that the colts got to pick the first defensive player in the draft! I would love to see a lb with their 2nd pick!
    • The film is just incredible. He beat the blocker and ran over the running back. Just… insane.
    • I loved the pick. I had him as a dark horse because of his medical and felt he may slide because of it. Honestly, when it came to #15, he never really entered my mind, as I felt they would pass on him. People asked who they wanted at #15 and in one of my posts, I said a football player. I wanted Mitchell but I also raised the idea of Latua in other posts..  I really praise Ballard for this pick. I said he needed to come away with a play maker and there had to be some amount of pressure on him to do so. Apparently, information is out there that he tried to move up and I also said, I had a feeling this was a year they were going to try and make a move. I give a lot of credit to Ballard for picking the guy who has a lot of production and if he fails, so be it. I also told people on this board that this pass rush was not good enough. Ballard's eagerness to sign Hunter should have been a sign that he felt so as well. I said to watch free agency and it will tell you what their true needs are. He wanted Hunter and Sneed. The rumor is that he wanted to trade up into the 1st and everyone is saying it was probably a receiver. That is shocking to me but once again, I will give Ballard an A+ so far, because he was willing to be aggressive.  I do Steichen is having some influence on Ballard because of his days with the Eagles and how aggressive they are in the draft. I think this shows that he realizes that he needs to have play makers to play with the elite teams and you have to take some risk to get those type of players. I have been hard on Ballard, but he has knocked it out of the park so far. He took a guy with a questionable medical history, addressed a glaring need and a position that is needed to make this defense work. Don't be mislead by last year's sack totals. This team lost a pile of games in the 4th quarter last year because they could not pressure the qb. Now he needs a wr, S and corner. I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up in the 2nd. Way to go Ballard!!!
    • It seems most of his pass rush production has been as a standing OLB. He does have reps with his hand on the ground where he's produced as well, but he was asked to rush standing up most of the time. Hopefully that isn't a big transition for him, because it is for some people.
