We should grab JOJO Natson back from the Jets Practice squad

He has the potential to break his record for most fumbles in a game.

In all seriousness, this team does not need any more small receivers.

This team needs fast (not necessarily burners), big, physical receivers that can catch (yes, catch) short and intermediate routes, get YAC, etc.

What's the point of that comment you made?

It's what every smart team wants at WR, but somehow, the Colts have managed to screw it up.

My point was, you act like it's some big revelation to find a big WR that can catch and get YAC.  Every team in the NFL would like a big WR that can catch and get YAC.  Yet those guys are few and far between.

It's kind of like saying the Colts need a QB that can throw accurately all over the field and avoid the rush.

Or a RB that can break tackles and take it to the house.

Or a LB that can cover TEs and RBs as well as be beast against the run.

Or a tall CB can can play man or zone and shut down the other team's top receiver.

Or a LT that has swift feet and is a mauler in the run game.

Or a NT that can plug the middle and rush the passer.

The Colts haven't screwed it up.  No one had a problem with Hilton and Moncrief until Luck was no longer the QB.  No one thought about trading Hilton or Moncrief until Brisset starting using Doyle as his security blanket instead of Hilton.  Hilton is one of the best WRs in the NFL.  The problem is not him (he's getting open and getting open a lot more than the ball is thrown to him.  Even in this past weekend, Hilton is wide open down the sideline, Brisset under throws him which give the CB a chance to catch up and then the CB knocks his arms down before the ball gets there.  But yet somehow Hilton is to blame.

In 2016 Hilton has Luck throwing to him and he leads the NFL in yards, in 2017 Hilton has Brissett throwing to him and he disappears in games.  And yet some come to the conclusion that the issue is Hilton.

1) It's not a big revelation.  Nowhere did I say it was.  It's actually pretty common knowledge that this is the direction the league is headed with WRs, which is why I'm shocked you reacted the way you did.

The screen game and quick, intermediate passing game (Chiefs and Rams are prime examples of this right now) are becoming extremely popular right now.  It neutralizes the opposing team's pass rush.  It gives your QB easy, rhythm throws.  5-step drops.  Not ridiculous 7-step drops with PAs that force the QB to hold onto the ball for ages.

With the more West Coast approach, teams lull the defense to sleep and still have the ability to attack vertically on both the outside and up the seams with TEs (Kelce, for example, is used this way).

But to be successful in the screen game, you have to have bigger, more physical WRs that can block.  You have to have big guys that can run the little rub routes that scheme other guys open (Pats do this to perfection).

2) And yes, people have had problems with Hilton and Moncrief before this season.

You can completely eliminate Hilton from a game by putting a big, physical corner on him.  Jam him at the line of scrimmage and Hilton is gone.  It happens every year, multiple times.

If the coaching staff utilizes Hilton perfectly (puts him in the stack in bunch formations to get him clean releases), and he gets the benefit of an average CB matchup, he absolutely has the ability to have a big game.

On the flip side, you cannot completely eliminate DeAndre Hopkins, Julio Jones, or Antonio Brown (to name a few, as these taller, more physical WRs that you think are some sort of unicorns are much more prevalent than you make it seem)  from a game.

I don't care if you have a big corner or you double those guys.  They're still going to eat.  You can slow them down, a bit, but they're not getting completely shut down like Hilton does.

3) I'm not saying Hilton isn't a good player.  He's just one-dimensional.  Speed is his game.  If you stop him from getting clean releases at the line of scrimmage, it's game over.

Moncrief?  He has all the tools.  He just hasn't been able to put it all together.  And he absolutely HAS TO start catching the football.  He's had some terrible drops this year.

If Moncrief keeps playing like he has this season, don't be shocked when the Colts let him walk at the end of this season.
