Colts Mock Offseason and Draft

Recommended Posts

Before I get into my mock, I do not expect Grigson to go deep into free agency and I do believe this years UFA will be slim due to franchise tags and other teams having more money. I will also not include contract figures.

Resign: Jack Doyle, Robert Turbin, Darius Butler (Free Safety), Erik Walden.

Cuts: Arthur Jones, Dqwell Jackson

Free agent Signings: Melvin Ingram, Dontari Poe/ Cap casualties

2017 Mock Draft with a trade!..... We all know Grigson makes a trade every year.

1. Solomon Thomas (DT/Edge) 20th Pick- Denver Broncos trade up to 15 to draft either Cam Robinson or Ryan Ramczyk.

Based on trade value points, Colts will receive 200 points.  The Colts will receive Denver Broncos 2017 natural 3rd round pick (170 points) and 2018 natural 5th round pick (32 points). My reasoning is that Denver can't afford to lose an OT and they have 1 natural 3rd and (2) 3rd comp picks. They do not have a 5th rounder this year so they will give up next years 5th rounder.

2nd- Sidney Jones (CB)

3rd- Chidobe Awuzie (CB)

3rd- Wayne Gallman (RB)

4th-Samaje Perine (RB)

4th comp- Jalen Reeves- Maybin (ILB)

5th- Ejuan Price (OLB)

6th- Sean Harlow (G)

I know I will probably get flack for having 2 RB being drafted but I think it can be a good problem to have.  Frank Gore, I love the guy but Father Time is always undefeated and whose to say that decline will hit or even injuries.  I think being his last year he can also mentor these 2 young backs.

My issue with your trade is that this is considered a poor OL class overall. Robinson and Ramczyk may fall to the Broncos anyways.

I see your point on how poor this class is but there are a lot of teams that need OT and being that there are hardly any that it may drive up the demand. Remember there are only 2 really solid OT prospects. Seattle, Denver, Patriots, Texans, Dolphins, Possibly Detroit if they lose Reiff. There is always a need for OL. There are a lot of teams below us that need OT and they may not be the there in the 2nd

I don't see either of those two falling to 20th.      By law of supply and demand they shouldn't last long after the top-10.      Too much demand and not enough supply.

They're the two best OT's in the draft.      They should both go before 20.

Yeah I'd be surprised if either of those two make it past Carolina, Buffalo, Cincy or SD. They all have o line needs.

But if by chance they are still there when the Colts pick, I could see a team like Denver being interested in trading up to grab em.

I agree on some of what you said. I think both players could be gone within the top 10 due to the amount of teams needing an OT like the Jags, Panthers, and Chargers but there is also a great chance they might slide in the middle round because there are so many good prospects rated higher. It just depends on how the gm's feel about taking necessity over BPA. I do believe if Robinson or Ryan are available where the colts pick, I think teams may be on the phone trying to trade up. Seattle for example, needs lineman in a bad way but they also know Denver needs lineman as well. That comes into play where maybe Seattle decides to try and move up so they can get there guy before Denver or Denver is really sold on Robinson or Ryan and they want him bad enough they choose to move up to make sure they get the guy they want. They do have 10 picks this year. All I can say it's a bunch of what ifs but I do think anything is possible.

I agree. Denver traded up for shane ray when they had miller and ware. I think it's all on how the team feels about the player

The key word is SHOULD. It's still early of course. But last year people were projecting the Broncos would trade up with us for Lynch, but they ended up only having to trade up to 27 to get him. They'd only be going up about 5 spots. If one or both of those guys have fallen to 15, I don't see any teams in between 15 and 20 who would snag them before the Broncos.

I don't love it...

I can't see us using two mid-round picks on RBs...

Poe and Ingram would be good FAs to get, though. I like some of the picks, just think that we could do more in the draft, especially if we add picks with a trade back.

I respect your opinion. I know with how bad the defense is most of those picks should be on the defensive side. Some people think rb isn't to big of an issue but I think it is. I think if they can get a young back or two to take the load off luck it will also help the defense stay off the field. I also think 2 young rb can help by having a strong 1-2 punch later on in the future.

If we decide to keep Turbin and Todman (I can see us bringing at least one back since they are league minimum), plus have a draft pick for this being was is said, then I do not see why we would need to draft 2.  You still have Gore under contract so having one pick towards a RB would be ok but two would be a little too much IMO.

I love this draft!

I am not sure we can still get Solomon Thomas if we trade back, but he has the potential to really jumpstart our D.

I really love the Ejuan Price pick. He is an Elvis Dumervil clone. He can get after the passer.

I am not a huge fan of the Jalen Reeves-Maybin pick. Undersized linebackers with an injury history raise a red flag to me.

    • Agree with you on the draft takes.   For AR's season, I think mediocrity is what we should hope for( compared to other QBs). We should not forget, that this is basically his rookie season and he's still only 22. So if that would get us to 10-7.....HOORAY !
    • Less than 2 months away when the greatest crushes this Jake Paul guy. Tyson in 3. Tyson is getting in great shape, he looks fast and strong as of now.    When I list boxers where they rank all-time, I go by peak. You have to when it comes to boxing because most fighters Don't last long. Mike Tyson from 1985-1995 only lost once in 10 years. His record in that time frame was 43-1 37 KO's. Buster Douglas KO'd him in the 10th round in a fight where Mike didn't even train for and Mike actually KO'd him in the 8th, Douglas got a 13 count.    Notable wins in that 10 year frame.   Berbick Holmes but he was old, still it was Holmes. Tucker  Spinks Bruno Ruddock (twice)
    • I'm excited about our future. I think Ballard put together 2 very nice drafts in a row. Never thought we would get Latu, thought we had a better chance at Bowers. Still holding out hope for Cross, he flashes greatness than dissappears, hope he's consistent. Hope Woods takes lead in TE room. I keep writing off Granson, but he keeps impressing. Even if Richardson has a mediocre season I think the team around him could get us to 10-7.
    • I think you understood his words in a "positive" way, but that's not what he said.   He DID NOT say that "most of you would choose to get married..."   That's your implication. Of course, only women can bring children in this world and most of the women will choose to be married and have children, but that's not exactly what he said.   He said, "doing so - while some others will go on to lead successful career in the world - will take you closer to God's Will"    Here's what he said from the transcript:    He could've said, "even if you go on to have a very successful career, and get the greatest accolades of the world, I think the most important title of a woman is :  Homemaker. And, that would take you closer to God's Will"    But, he didn't say so because he wanted to say exactly what he believes women should do and brought God into that by saying that's His Will.    I think he made a mistake of implying that women are generally excited about marriage and having kids and being a homemaker, when that's only part of a woman's life - even though that could be the most cherished and blessed part of the life.   He only looked at how that made his wife's life - his words, not his wife's words by the way - and projected that to all the women.
    • This happens every single year and every single year people worry about the occasional unsigned rookie when we haven't even gotten into June yet.   Guys/gals... it's really a big nothing burger. Ever since the NFL introduced rookie scale contracts this has been a non-issue. Everything important in those contracts has been made non-negotiable. The negotiable things are largely minutiae - it's about schedule of payment...it's about off-set language, or language about voiding salary payments(for example - can the team void payments for suspensions and stuff like that), etc.   There are two cases I remember in the last 10 years where this has become a problem and the player has actually missed training camp practices because of it - Joey Bosa(because of schedule of payments dispute) and Roquan Smith(because of dispute about the language about voiding payments for suspensions because of play). And as you see... Both of those were top 10 picks. (i.e. more money on the line)...   Holdouts/holdins of day 2 and day 3 picks are pretty much unheard of. I personally couldn't find a single case when I looked for it.    AD seems to be taking part in both rookie mini camp and in OTAs and hasn't missed any practice, we haven't heard about any sort of dispute so far, so my assumption would be there is nothing to see here and it's all formality.    So yeah... Unless we hear there is a problem I would just assume everything is good.
