Geographically yeah. But Miami's longstanding rivalries with other AFC East teams will prevent this from ever happening. Sort of like how they'll never move Dallas out of the NFC East even though they really ought to be in the South too.

You get what is negotiated in the CBA. All players having issues with owners/coaches should pick up the beef with the NFLPA.

 

Spikes just shot the chance to play for a winning franchise for several years, that is the least he did with the Patriots, IMO.

The fact that he hit the open market and only had 1 offer that was a 1 year deal for minimal money with the lowly Buffalo Bills says everything you need to know.

 

He was probably asking to be paid like a top MLB in the league, somewhere in the range of 5-8 mill a year, but the fact is that hes not an every down linebacker.  Hes a role player in the run game.. a very, very good role player, but a role player none the less.  You don't play role players top money, especially one that has had a history of not fully buying into your team concept or rules, freelances, uses social media, is late to meetings and generally conducts himself with a bit of a juvenile behavior.

So true. Even without Spikes and Wilfork, the biggest reason the Pats got dominated by Denver was because Talib went down. They addressed the pass pretty strongly with singing Revis. Guys like Spikes are replaceable at a much lower cost.

Maybe twice. Anyone who watched that game saw the night-and-day difference when Talib went down. No one else could even come close to covering D. Thomas. 

 

The Patriots' offense didn't play very well for 3 quarters, don't get me wrong, but their inability to stop Denver was the difference, especially in key spots. They gave up over 500 yards of offense, 7 yards/play, and allowed the Broncos to go 7/13 on 3rd downs... ball game right there.

Some decent points, but the fact of the matter is they played the greatest offense in NFL history. They were not going to hold them under 20 points. Brady was going to have to play good and put up points to win. He wasnt good enough to do that.

 

I would consider holding Denver to 26 points somewhat of an accomplishment. Also, with the ammount of weapons Denver had, Talib cant cover all of them. Or even one of them completely.

Thomas from that point on and never got the Denver O off the field which limited Brady's possessions. For sure he could have played better but when you are facing one of the best offenses of all time you need your best corner to have a chance.

Brady was throwing to Matthew Slater, a special teamer and Austin Collie who played all but three games for the Pats up to that point. Those were his biggest misses. He still completed 63 percent of his passes for just under 300 yards and had 2 TDs with no picks. He for sure needed to do more which he might have been able to do if the ToP was not 35 to 24 because the Pats D could not get Manning off the field.

No doubt, the entire team disappointed, both offense and defense. It just seemed like the offense would have been good enough if things had gone their way, whereas the Patriots defense could have played Denver 100 times without much success. 

 

Obviously Belichick sees that to get to the Super Bowl at some point the Patriots will probably have to get through Denver, either at home or on the road. Which is why he's loading up on CBs like Revis and Browner.

I remember a long one to Edelman that he overthrew, and one other (can't recall who the intended receiver was) that might have been a big pickup. You could be right I don't know. But it's not like Brady was god-awful in that game. If they'd converted that 2-point attempt it could have gotten interesting at the end there. 

 

He was worse against the Ravens in the AFCCGs in 2011 and 2012, if you ask me. This wasn't Brady's worst playoff game by a longshot.

Ehh, not his best game but far from his worst. He had a 93 QBR. He played worse vs the Ravens in the playoffs the last two years then he did vs. Denver.

Brady missing Edelman was huge. The Pats O couldn't afford to miss any opportunities. It severely effected the flow of the game. The game was over when Talib quit. Thankfully it looks like the Patriots are addressing the D issues. The O will be just fine in fact one of the leagues best.
