Chad Spann!!

Maybe its just me but i just think the colts are prime to become a good rushing team this year, with the drafting of these two Linemans and the uncertainty about Manning. I just think this is the time. I didnt know about Chad Spann until just two hours ago so im not some crazed NIU fan but the guy is TOUGH!!

To be honest i dont want addai back, he may be a good blocker and all but the colts need a big good back.

The guy looks good. But if the oline doesn't step up significantly in run blocking it won't really make a difference. The oline is the key to the running game. Addai does a good job with some lanes to run in.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Chad and the line get the job done. I just am not that sure a few rookies are going to step right in and change the Colts rushing ability. But let's hope so!

I dont think this has been sayed enough: Addai is not the problem, he has proved with a couple 1000 yards seasons and when given lanes last year he got pretty good chunks of yards...its the OL not giving much room for running backs...so i agree with the last poster :)

I think Chad Spann looks really good. I like shorter running backs with their low to the ground center of gravity, they just seem harder to get on the ground. If they don't bring Addai back I think things will be okay. It will take Peyton some getting used to but they will survive. Peyton can take the "next man up" and do what he needs with them. The only question I have with Spann is how well he blocks. He can obviously run and Ive watched him catch fairly well. I also don't want to forget about and leave out Delone Carter...we took him 119th overall. Through in Darren Evans as well and I think there is three good young backs. I say its time for Jarvis James, Rhodes, and Hart to go...

I believe Chad Spann has a real shot at making the Colts not just as a kick returner. He's a pure running back, and worked on kicks this summer to enhance his chances of making a roster. Don't think of him as a specialist. He's a running back, and I suspect Indy will largely be heading for a more up the middle style run game in general. I don't expect Addai to be resigned.

Thanks for posting the video EdBriggs.

I don't know if I'd say amazing, it is a highlight reel after all. That being said there are some things he does that you like to see in a RB:

1. Even when he's running sideways his shoulders are square to the goal-line. I don't care if you're a 185lb back or a 265lb back if you keep your shoulders parallel to the LOS you will break some tackles. The reverse is true as well, if you don't you will go down fairly easily.

2. Has a nice stride. As great as it was to watch, very few running backs can have a long stride like Dickerson and still have power. He doesn't over extend his legs when running so he is in a good position to change direction, lower his shoulder or stiff arm without losing speed.

3. This kind of ties in with point number one, he jukes from the core(stomach) down, not a lot of shoulder movement (except when he was lowering his shoulder)

4. Lowering of the shoulder to take/deliver a hit seems natural not forced like it does with many running backs.

5. This is a good and a bad, when catching the ball he gets his head turned around quickly and gets his shoulders squared quickly. The bad is... he is not a good receiving running back, he body catches too much.

6. Has good vision in the open field. His peripheal vision seemed very good, he would make moves based on a would be tackler who was slightly behind him.

The okay, he has good speed but not great, he won't be outrunning many LBers or DBs in the NFL. But that's okay he doesn't need to be a home run hitter.
