Did you miss the second half of the SB?

And how is three TO's better than brady's two and Kape's one?? Not to mention he was spotted 14 points from his special teams.

the first pick was clearly PI. give me a break. how many tds did Brady throw

Did you watch Peyton with the Broncos in the playoffs? Two picks - one for a pick six and the other to end the game in OT and a fumble and a kneel down.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't skewing the facts to paint a haters view. Everyone knows Peyton beat the Ravens, but the defense gave up two huge long passes to blow that game. Its just how you view it.

the pick in the 6th quarter was peytons only mistake, but he should have never been in that position. Fox should have ended the game in the 4th when he had the chance. The other pick was a tipped drop that fell into the hands of a lucky CB 15 yards downfield.

The stats were (as someone else pointed out) pretty darn good. Much better than our QBs attempt to dismantle the Ravens. I'll take PM as my QB anytime over the next 3 years. After that, we'll see.

Ok, let the excuses roll. The fumble was not his fault either I suppose.

No matter. The real point is judging the success of QBs and still no one has answered my question. Do you put as much stock in the regular season as the post-season? I mean in the end rings are what every org and QB gets judged by.

You're right. I guess that's why everbody thinks Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marino.

I am not suggesting a one hit wonder that is obvious. I am saying if a QB wins more than one ring veruses a Qb that has one ring and a bunch of stats, do you give them the same weight?

I don't judge QBs by team accomplishments.

Make the playoffs every year for the next 8 to 9 years AND win two or more Super Bowls, then the Luck era will be > than the Manning era.  Don't make the playoffs for the next 8 to 9 years consecutively, but still win two or more SuperBowls, then the Luck era will be arguably better than the Manning era.  Don't make the playoffs for the next 8 to 9 consecutive years and win one or less SuperBowl, then the Luck era will be < than the Manning era.

Simple.

Ok, then we agree. Everything when you boil it down comes down to the team so we are still left with the judging stick. Personally, I think playoff wins and SB wins count waay more than divisional titles or league MVPs...interested in what others think.

Nope.

i forget, is Jim Plunkett in the hall of fame?

no but Dan Marino would trade places with him and his two rings in a heartbeat...Jim Kelly too.

Cris Carter would trade it for a Ring also. So I guess Brandon Stokley is better than Cris Carter.

Addai is better than Barry Sanders.

Trent Dilfer is better than Marino.

Again you are missing the whole point. This isn't about what player is better than another but what you as a fan value more - regular season success/achievements vs. post-season and SBs.

It's all junk anyway, rings are highly desirable but not a qualification for greatness.

I agree with this . Division titles or League MVP is a worthless achievement if thats all accomplished IMO

IMO had Peyton Manning had a decent defense those 1 & done seasons would have resulted in a better team record & the QB gets all the credit or blame .

Andrew Luck will not have to worry " Hopefully " about a total defensive collapse every time he gets a lead .

To be in the big game is the top of the mountain for NFL players no matter the records or stats . After the big money the Ring is all thats left & those with out are losers .

If we build our team the way the Giants built it with Eli or the Steelers built it with Big Ben, we will win a SB in Luck's first 5-6 years.

That would be a team that plays more aggressive on defense and special teams, and keeps the QB in the game and gives him short field position whenever they can and enough possessions to work with.

These questions, I can safely answer:

  1. Will we be resting starters in meaningless games like the Polian era? No
  2. Will we build a more complete team on D and ST unlike the Polian era? Yes

Will we be lucky enough to have one good run in the playoffs in the next 5-6 years for a SB win? Probably yes. But will be lucky enough to have 2 such successful runs? You never know.

Peyton has had, what, about 46 4th qtr comeback wins in his NFL regular season career, but just 1 in his postseason career??? So, Luck might give us similar stats too, if his rookie year is any indication. So, I am confident the Luck era will match the Peyton era in regular season success in terms of double digit wins. But 12 wins for 7 years would be probably too much to ask.

Let me put it this way. Luck would have to win 10 games for about 10 seasons, 2 SBs, and 1 regular season MVP to help us have a case that Luck's era was better than Peyton's era.

If Luck wins 2 SBs, 0 MVPs, 10 games about 7-8 times in his career, it could end up a case of Luck being Eli or Big Ben, which would suffice for those who just want SBs, regardless of regular season record.

Bottom line, Luck era can be better than the Peyton era, ONLY IF HE WINS 2 SBs because it is going to be real hard to top the regular season success of Peyton.

Only 1 MVP? How about FOUR!! And perhaps it should have been five on the basis of last year. Peyton will be a contender to win that award again this year.....

Defensive collapses? Colts lost 24-14 and 17-3 to the Pats in 03 and 04 and then lost 21-18 to the Steelers in 2005. How exactly are those losses on the defense? And I have not even touched on the Charger losses against whom Manning routinely threw multiple picks...

He threw 2 picks in 2 games vs San Diego in the playoffs. He also threw 4 TDs and over 700 yards. A little research once in a while doesn't hurt.

    • The Cardinals didn't put up a fight against the Reds.
    • That weightlifting aged him pretty good as far as his back.  I wish him well post-surgery.  I think he's going to be feeling much better!!!  We need his leadership!!!
    • I doubt any of us here have spent more time studying the health issues of Latu than the Colts have.  If they are comfortable with it that’s good enough for me but that’s just me.
    • This makes me so happy. It's Karma for all the lies and deception the NFL has put out since recently. They supposedly care about player safety, so lets add a week to the regular season with plans to add more. All these international games where teams have to travel more and the fans get less home games. All the games now that are going to be on various streaming services off TV where people can't watch them with their family. The blatant terrible refereeing the last few years in order to rig games and expecting people not to notice. The Taylor Swift crap this last year where they sold their soul.   It's all about money. That's all the NFL cares about. We are trash to them. The players are trash to them unless they make the NFL money. I hope the NFL has to pay out $14B. This would be exactly what they deserve for ruining this sport to the point where it's almost unwatchable now.
    • This aged like fine wine. After this happened, I bet $1 on the Lakers to win the NBA Finals next year. Get $31 dollars if they do. I'm buying into the conspiracy theory that the league will give it to Lebron and Bronny. Also think the Lakers will make a move or two in FA.
