What We Have In Our Favor For March 12th.

Now I realize are in the top 4 of teams with eligible cap space and teams such as The Browns are clearly in the talks of signing everyone under the sun, but these are some of the things we have to our advantage when it comes to signing guys we have an attraction to.

For instance we were a playoff team last year when we clearly were suppose to be a rebuilding team and quite frankly we were projected to be a 3-13 team at best. There are some players who want to win more than they want to get paid. It does happen.

We have Andrew Luck. Everyone knows his potential and a lot of people are going to want to play with a Quarterback with as much upside as #12 I mean who would you rather have leading your team in a two minute drill [Luck,Dalton,Weeden or Tannehill] I'm not being bias, even if I wasn't a Colts fan my answer would still be Andrew.. Hands down.

We are a team on the rise and we are rising very quickly. Good management, scouting and management will do that. I believe Pagano's inspiration alone is enough to bring in talent but Grigson has something about him that just intrigues me when he speaks. The guy knows his stuff and he knows where to look for talent and how to get it. He's aggressive but conservative at the same time, Couldn't be more happier with what he's done in only one year in Indianapolis.

We have cap space for the first time in ages.. We have to be smart and we have to be right. We need to fill holes, but we have to be smart and get players for the right price. Grigson knows that this is a crucial year for him and I'm sure he will do all the right things necessary to make this club better.

I think we have a great chance to lure players away from other teams as long as they are willing to play for a fair price. Just don't get upset if you see some big names landing in other places for a ridiculous amount of money. I know I won't be.

We definitely have the most promise for any free agent testing the market.

We have a very young team and have the talent to make a good playoff run year after year, we are just missing a few pieces.

I think that is why we see our name associated with a lot of different players.

If it comes down to us and Cleveland bidding for certain free agents, and any of those free agents pick Cleveland over us, then that free agent isn't very smart. Cleveland has no QB worth talking about and they are in constant rebuild mode.

Absolutely!

And you hit it pretty good there....we have this "intangible" in a Colts organization that in a pretty remarkable way, pivoted from one era of a great QB and a stable front office organization to another one...with a younger, refreshed roster and an owner who strikes the right balance between his "football" involvement and just supporting and serving the organization....which is what a good owner does.

You're right....a few of these high-profile free agents are bound to get away in their quest for the best payday they can find, and we can't really fault them for that....but those that have a good team atmosphere, organizational stability and a winning formula in mind can check that box off with the Colts.

With Mike Lombardi as the new GM the Browns can't go wrong.........

From what I read on the board, Mike Lombardi's record has not been sterling. The one thing I would add though is Banner did a very good job in Philadelphia and Haslam is who bought the team I believe. He had a small ownership in Pittsburgh before buying Cleveland, and has a lot of very good relationships. In fact he is very close with the Mannings. Could somebody let me know what Lombardi's record has been and with who. I really appreciate it, since I think the Browns fans are thrilled to have the new ownership!

I do agree on the fact though that any FA would pick Colts over most teams any day of the week, unless it is a FA who only plans on a year or two more, someone like Reed. They may opt for Denver or I hate to say there names, but you know who.

It's exactly that. What offensive player would pick Weeden or whoever their QB will be over Luck?? That's just nonsense

I agree with this statement 100%, yet they took a QB in the 1st last year.... I still don't get why with Weeden. Maybe a lower pick sure, but a 1st?! Talent aside the age and miles on the clock from his MLB career aren't the starting pointing point for a franchise QB. Crazy decision.

Good Post   When you watch the Peyton Manning or Jeff Saturday news conferences you see a owner who feels like family with his players , At those times it seems like more than just a business to Jim Irsay he cares about his players beyond the field .

I just couldn't believe the Dolphins took Tannehill that early. Kellen Moore is better than Tannehill.

Right price, huh? It's not gonna happen. Unfortunately, Free Agency = Overpaying. There is a lot of teams looking for the same players. Bidding war is coming. No doubt about it.

Exactly. We will overpay for whoever we get. But as long as they're contributors, who cares?

Personally, I wouldn't want guys who just go to the highest bidder. I'm not crazy about Barwin but I like his attitude. He said he'd take less to go to a winner.

There are plenty of examples where teams got excellent value or paid no more than market value, but people tend to forget about those.

I agree with everyone that Indianapolis is the most intriguing out of the teams with money and we have a very bright future. But the one thing about it all is gonna be after the money more than going to a team that can reach the playoffs and is stable. Plus we know the recipe for Success and how to sustain it. The diiference will come down to more money? Or a winning team which knows how to have success? Hopefully the they chose the second option, and if their smart they will.

Cincinnati, a playoff team, is sitting in a pretty good cap situation right now too. But the Colts obviously have the better owner and that could help us if the Colts and Bengals have interest in the same player(s).

You think the Bengals will spend money? You must not know Mike Brown. Dude's so cheap he makes the players pay for their own Gatorade. haha

The CBA compels them to spend money over the course of the next four years.

Teams can basically choose to spend money on players that might help them, or save that money and then pay it to the players they already have after the fact. But the money will be spent.

Teams can start talking to free agents tonight. So, the free agency period really starts now, the official signings happen on the 12th at 3pm.

The Colts can start talking now, and I presume they will.

If I'm not mistaken, they still have a lot of their own free agents to re-sign as well?

Yeah, they have a healthy free agent class this year. Whether they prioritize their own guys over players from other teams remains to be seen. But even if they do, they have a ton of cap space. And the most effective use of that cap space is to add players, not hoard it and then pay it out as a penalty in four years.

They can talk to agents as of midnight, and even make offers. But no player visits or meetings, aside from your own free agents or players who have been released. And obviously, no signings.

    • As it stands the Eagles are pretty loaded with CBs at the moment after picking up Rodgers then drafting both Quinyon and Cooper in the draft. There have been rumblings of them potentially preparing to move Bradberry. They are currently in need of another WR, so the question I pose is would you be ok with trading Alec to Philly in exchange for Bradberry? Or do you think they should let the current CBs on the roster battle it out? Keep in mind Bradberry is approaching 31 years of age.
    • Exactly. I wanted the Vikes to trade Jefferson. I think being careful not to overpay is important in football. I guess that is why I like Ballard. He does not jump and pay the shiniest free agent all this money. He believes in rewarding his own players.   The only reason I would pay Jefferson is because he has been in our organization and we know him. I prefer paying players who have been with the team and have been good players and good citizens (stays out of trouble, are team players, etc.)
    • It is but as the guys reporting this said Pierce was the only one of the top four WRs working with special teams and not something he’s done in the past.  Like I said it’s early indication,  it can clearly change.
    • Yeah it was a wild game. Cubs are in a funk that is for sure lol.
    • Tatum is a great player but Doncic is better. Both teams basically will have a week off and should come in healthy so there really can't be any excuses for the losing team. Unless a key player gets injured during the series. I still like Dallas in 6. If I am wrong I will be here and tip my cap to you, and say I was wrong.   Regarding football, if you look my top 5 QBs of all-time, I have Brady #1 and I am a diehard Colts fan. I have Brady 1, Montana 2, Peyton 3, Mahomes 4, Unitas 5. The League MVP is the 2nd best thing a QB can win, only winning the Championship is better. So I put a lot of weight on League MVPs. Peyton is top 5 at worse just because of that alone combined with winning 2 Championships. At the end of the year, if a QB doesn't win the Championship, but wins League MVP, most say, he still at least won MVP and was the best player the whole regular season.
