Only if they don't get a long term deal worked out, McAfee will get it.  I don't see any way they let him walk.

him though. There's nobody else worth that kind of money. Use that money to upgrade! We're gonna be DANGEROUS!

IMO, McAfee is the only one worth the Tag, but who knows.  Stranger things have happened.

To answer the question though, we don't have a player that would be worthy of the tag.

Isn't McAffee an RFA?

 

If so no reason to tag him and pay $2.9 million. 

 

Just put in a level 3 tender on him of $2 million.  That tender means that if another team wants to sign him they have to give up their 2nd round pick to us to do so.  

 

No team in their right mind would give up their 2nd round pick for a punter.  And if they did, so what?  Would you trade our punter for a 2nd?  I like McAffee but if someone wants to give up a 2nd rounder to get him, BE MY GUEST.  In fact I would love for that to happen.  

 

But it wouldn't happen, there isn't a single NFL team that would give up a 2nd rounder for a punter.

 

**Edit** I just looked and it turns out he's not a RFA.  So yeah he might get franchised if they can't work out a deal.  Wouldn't think it would be that hard to work out a deal with a punter though.
