James Aiono, Tim Fugger, Keji Karim, Brandon King and Mike Newton all got another chance. They were added to IR. Karim and Newton showed potential in the preseason. Fugger never was healthy enough to show anything. They can not practice with the team but they can still learn how the NFL works.

All 4 of them were waived. Glad to see they cleared waivers and we were able to stash them on IR to give them a chance next year.

I believe players on IR get full salary while players on the practice squad are on a reduced pay scale.

Looks like the second chance evaporated. Aiono, Fugger, Karim, King and Newton were waived from the injured list. On the injured list they would have been paid and could be kept by the Colts. Now it seems they get a settlement and the Colts brass does not think enough of their tallent to keep them on the injured list till next year.

Sometimes I wonder if some players on waived/injured/IR don't actively ask for an injured settlement, IF, a big if, they feel they can get healthy and latch on to another team THIS year rather than wait until next year. At others I realize the team just says"No" and settles, waives.

The Indianapolis Colts today waived the following players from the Injured Reserve List: DE James Aiono, LB Tim Fugger, RB Deji Karim, CB Brandon King and S Mike Newton.

I updated my post above with all Sept transactions.

Here's what it means to be waived/injured-

"'Waived injured' means the team is releasing the player but the player is injured. The team is responsible to pay the player until his injury has healed. This is usually done by reaching an agreement for a specific amount of money, called an injury settlement. Other teams are allowed to pick up players on the waived injured list but they are forewarned that the player is not in condition to play. ... "

We can also pay and place them on IR, or place them on IR until settlement is reached and cut them off the IR list. I believe the latter has transpired, and the latest NFL wire hasn't listed Fugger and Karim yet, but soon will.
