Manning flew his backups to Hawaii?

19 posts in this topic

from NFL.com..

"I'm very happy for Coach (Jim) Harbaugh," said Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who was mentored by the 49ers coach during their time at Stanford together. "But I wish I was the one getting to play against him in the Super Bowl."

Maybe it's true for every year, but this postseason's obituaries seem to read particularly harsh. And as a result, these men are having a particularly tough time letting this year go.

"All of us have had major disappointments in our seasons," Fox said.

From the Packers falling short of their Super Bowl anticipations to the Seahawks' season coming to an end despite a 20-point comeback against the Falcons to Atlanta's meltdown against the 49ers in their own season-ending loss, the league's top names can all look back on their seasons with very legitimate "what if" question.

For the Broncos, whose sting might be the worst of the bunch, especially after that double overtime loss to the Ravens, they are at least in this together. Manning flew his two backup quarterbacks, Brock Osweiler and Caleb Hanie, to Hawaii for this week's festivities. It has allowed all of them, with Fox included, to talk about the aftershock of a season fallen short.

In the years to come I can see Luck doing the same thing.    His favorite player is Peyton Manning.   Classy guy.    His father, Oliver, is a huge influence on Andrew.    Again, another classy guy.     It's rubbed off on Andrew.

Nothing he does in a positive way like this will ever surprise me......

So what are these elite QBs doing when their seasons are undesirabelly over? Brady is paying his $10000 fine and moving into the $20M castle, Manning meanwhile is paying a trip to Hawaii for his entire QB crew. Fun to be that rich :cheer2:

Not unheard of Reggie said he was taking the other WRs and the position coach with him.

Luck brought Chandler Harnish with him to Hawaii. Drew Stanton's wife just had a baby so he stayed home, but Andrew offered. He discussed it in the conference call from a couple of days back.

Not unheard of but not common....

I would bet Arian Foster didnt take fly his linemen to Hawaii...as a reward...

I would suppose Russell Wilson didnt fly his backups to Hawaii...

The way I see it....Manning did it as a favor to his backups...He doesn't really need the backup QBs them to work with his new offensive coordinator.....

I'm glad to hear Luck made the same offer.....I would guess Luck feels like the two backups helped him even though they didnt play in any games...

Plus he makes a lot of money and they dont. Share the wealth ...

It's more common than you think a lot of players take teammates and coaches with them to the Pro-Bowl.  Maybe not everyone but a lot do this has been done for years.  Still nice of the players to do but nothing unheard of.

Not everyone. Not half. Not one quarter...

Everyone takes a wife/girlfriend/kids ....Few take teammates..and very few take backups

I didn't say everyone I said it happens more often than you think.  There is normally two to three stories about guys taking their teammates or coaches every year around the Pro-Bowl.

He didn't need to, most of his O-line was voted to the Pro Bowl anyway lol.

I think its great that these guys did that for the back ups. Shows that they are team players and a little extra practice time only makes the younger guys better. Great news on Stanton being a new daddy, Congrats to him. And Peyton classy as always.

    • And how long did Favre force throws, throw interceptions, etc? we're not comparing PLAYERS, we're comparing situations they were thrown in and how it affected their play long-term.
    • I didn't say the Colts were the only team to bring players off the street.  However, with the Colts it's more due to desperation than bringing in players in to see if they have anything left in the tank.  Others may disagree with me but I still think winning early made this regime a bit complacent making them think that they were only a player or two away from winning it all.  We still don't know if this o line will be good once the bullets start flying and we only have a group of rookies to back up the starting o line.  I'm just saying that there were a lot of question marks before all of these injuries but now we have exclamation points instead of question marks.
    • Come on people... I didnt say Luck was George or even cpmpared them. to think that the hurries, hits, bad running game hasn't affected Luck is nonsense.  And to think it couldn't affect him going forward is short-sided.  I didn't say luck wouldn't be good, but could hear "footsteps" in the pocket, hurry throws , force throws, or run too soon (all of which he's done). have u seen some of the topics around here?  I thought i raised a legitimate question that he could have a "memory" of being hurried, like MANY QB's have thru history, including Peyton. but NOWHERE was i comparing him to george (as a player), merely that they have experienced very similar issues regarding poor OL play, inadaquate running game, and being behind in the score. sheesh.
    • Isn't this interesting......   You,  who don't like it when people take on your 2nd amendment rights,  are now blasting someone over his 1st amendment rights.          Hmmmmm?   Remember,  free speech isn't free or protected unless unpopular speech is protected.
    • Thats what i was thinking.  He'd help those he talked about more by putting his money where his mouth is. until then, he's just another stupid kid who doesn't realize what an a** he's being.  He's average at best anyhow, and he might have a few screws loose. start a scholarship, open a rec center, sponsor a little league team. talk is cheap. He's a punk kid, who's unhappy cuz his production isn't living up to his hype: hey Kap, maybe get ur head in the playbook?  Or better yet, you MIGHT have a chance starting in the CFL. Since this country is so bad, maybe thats your best option.  Don't let the "door" hit you in your  skinny, over-rated, and over-paid a**.  No one will miss you, ESPECIALLY your team.  You'd be doing them a favor actually.

    • Hey there Amy,    Nice to meet ya & don't be shy. It's an awesome mixture of deep thinkers, jokesters, & diehard horseshoe fans here. All opinions & perspectives are welcome here. We have football fanatics, causal observers, & just curious people on here who like to vent, blow steam, broaden their horizons, & just chuckle at stuff the regulars always say. All team allegiances are encouraged to express themselves politely & peacefully here, which is pretty cool too.    I just watch the games at home on Direct TV Sunday ticket by myself usually.
