Multiple teams have switched kickers this week.  As far as I know Shrader hasn't received any interest other than from the Colts.  He isn't a big deal for me.

I have always worried not keeping 2 kickers on the 53 because what if Matt Gay pulls a hamstring in the 1st Qtr, then we go all game without a FG kicker. That can cost you a game. Rigo can kick extra points I am sure, but he isn't a FG kicker that can make a big FG from 50 yards with the game on the line.

I really doubt they’ll ever have two kickers active, unless they already suspect their #1 is nursing an injury.

Not disagreeing with you but,

I would though because of the reason I stated above. We can be in a gigantic game with the division on the line and If Gay gets injured during the game = we are screwed in a close game. I think of everything.

I get you.  You have to think about what group you’re sacrificing to keep him active.  Special teams, extra O lineman, etc.   That’s why it seems like a luxury move to me.

Rigo kicked field goals in college.   If the game was on the line,  I'm sure they would give him a shot

Just looked it up:

72 out of 74 extra points made, and 21 out of 24 field goals made in college.

Maybe that is why we only kept 1 Kicker. I would have to analyze the roster better to see who I would leave off if I did keep 2 kickers.

I don't think any team carries 2 kickers on the 53 man roster

The only way a team would do it is if it's a playoff game and they knew their normal kicker couldn't get there from say 55.  They may want to keep a guy who has a better shot at a longer FG, even though he's not as accurate as their prime guy.

Luxury move, but could pay off if you have the roster space.

The 2006 Colts did, and we even had Adam. Martin Gramatica was on the roster and even made a FG and got a ring.

He was here for a couple weeks when Vinny was hurt.

Years ago, during the Peyton era, the Colts drafted a kickoff specialist and carried him for a while.  He was out of Michigan St.   That experiment didn’t last long.

I don't recall  that

Usually, teams don't carry 2 Kickers and I get why, some have but it is rare. You would probably either have to carry just 2 QB's or maybe 1 less Lineman to do so. I would almost rather keep an extra decent Kicker than keep Sam because Sam is never going to play anyway. I feel comfortable with AR and Flacco.

I'm not sure why anyone cares about hair.   Does anyone think Grant Stuard is immature?    Look up that kids background

The Colts used to back with Vandy.  They kept a third to do kickoffs and every year people talked about how they were wasting a roster spot to do that.

I think the whole kicker in game injury bit is a little over blown with some.  I’ve been a Colts fan for over 35 years and I can think of one game where the kicker got hurt in game.  It was the MNF game vs the Ravens a few years ago.  They did exactly what you said.  Sent Rigo out to kick and then dealt with it after the game.

this is is not a common thing and definitely not a common enough thing to blow a roster spot over.

I'm not remembering a kickoff specialist.   I'm getting old though

Dave Raynor.  I can’t remember what year the NFL switched to the K balls, but the Colts kickoffs had been very short along with terrible coverage units.  Neither Vanderjagt or Hunter Smith could get it near the endzone. Raynor was also supposed to be a guy who could boom long field goals.  It was a failed experiment.  His kickoffs weren’t that great and it wasn’t worth burning a roster spot.

I'm pretty sure the NFL started using K balls in 1999. Don't bet the farm on my aged memory.
