The god awful Levis will look like the 2nd coming of Montana against this dead last ranked defense!!!!!

Do u think Shane is actually keeping Gus around because it makes Ballard look really bad? A power play? That's the only reason I can think of as to why Shane retains Gus. It's actually poor coaching for Shane not to fire Gus based on his history.

You do understand that shane works for Ballard right?  Ballard likes gus. As does irsay. Shane has zero to do with gus being here.

I think Ballard talked Shane into accepting Gus again based on the defense breaking the Colt sack record last season and by Gus being handicapped with all the injuries to the young secondary. Plus it also helped that Shane already had a prior working relationship with Gus from their Charger days.

As a first time hc going into yr 2 I doubt that Shane had much pushback anyway because unfortunately Ballard is calling the shots and has Irsay's blessing.

I agree and keeping Gus maybe a little revenge on Shane's part. U told me to keep him and now I am going to show Irsay that u suck as a GM, lol.

I hope u r right because then it only reinforces my long held belief that Ballard is a horrible GM. Oh, and I have Ballard's own record to support my argument.

I was always surprised by the Wink Martindale interview. I never felt he was a serious candidate for the HC position.  If u r correct in that  Ballard wanted Gus retained. I wonder if Wink was a Steichen request. Wink does not run anything like what the Colts currently do on D. Just found it was an out of left field play. Maybe Steichen knew this day would come? Maybe that was the 1st time Steichen was trumped by Ballard in retaining Gus? Steichen could be keeping Gus in their  to show Ballard's continued poor decisions. Just a little conspiracy thinking on my end, lol.

I’m starting to tilt that way.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt with the raw deal he had at QB.

There are no great GMs who don’t have a franchise QB.   But when he got one last year and still refused to bring in experienced talent this year, I was totally frustrated.  He knew JuJu’s injury history.  He knew the position was weak even with him.

I will say Cross is playing well but we’re ultra thin there too.

Not to defend Gus, but how can he play an aggressive D with those ingredients?

The talent on this D is quite bad.

Bring in a 3-4 D . Move Latu and Paye to LB. Cross looks like a keeper but the rest need to be shown the door. The corners sucks as does Blackmon. Lbs are light and cannot cover.

If they would have brought in one cover corner and/or a good FS, they could play an aggressive D.  Not that Gus would have even then.

That’s what’s so frustrating.  Everyone could see it.  I don’t think there was one media person or fan who could understand it.  He had the cap, there were plenty of guys.  They weren’t going to break the bank.

I just wonder when Irsay will say ENOUGH mediocrity.

We tried 3-4 during the Luck era. It didn’t work either.

And moving Latu to LB?

… really?

    • I would’ve thought conclaves would’ve gone in. Dalton surprised me.
    • It’s truly a combination of coaching and skill. Now when you have an NFL franchise one, the most important thing you do is finding the best backups in case someone goes down. But more I look over the Ballard regime I see that Ballard has been a lot of high draft picks and the defensive line, but he ignored the defensive back room and the subs we have either seem to be lazy or just don’t get the pro games. But I know one thing once we get a new defensive coordinator and all the coaches that go with that it’ll be a good start. The fans will understand frustration and it may save Ballard’s job for at least one more year just can’t play 10 yards off a receiver on a 3 yard First down. I’m tired of watching three  defensive players circling a receiver and giving a big enough cushion where the ball is thrown right in these things are unacceptable. No NFL defense should look the way that ours does and has been for a long time.
    • Imagine if we jammed receivers to mess up timing instead of giving them free reign for the first 5+ yards, we have corners that can play physical we just don't let them. It would then actually give more time for our DL to get to the QB. Ironically on those deep passes our CBs were biting on the quick pass which allowed the WR to run pass them. So we were giving 5+ yard buffers allowing easy pass and catch on the quick pass and it was happening so frequent when they went deep our CBs froze when the WRs went deep leaving them wide open. So worst of both worlds, thats on coaching.    I don't expect any mid-season changes unless it gets historically bad, but its the same problem as last year really where the offense is scoring enough to win but our defense loses the game. I mean for awhile last year we had a top 5 offense but a losing record.
    • I know some of you just love Joe Flacco and I appreciate the way he plays, but he is not a franchise quarterback at 39 years old. Richardson is our quarterback and we have to wait to see if there’s a future for him. I’m not saying that Richardson is soft but time will answer this question. as a Colts season ticket holder for decades I call  it like I see it and we are in transitional days if Richardson is not the man then where are we draft another one next year ride with him for the length of his rookie contract and then release him. I’m just saying these are difficult times for Colts fans so much uncertainty does not breed a playoff birth, if we can continue and have a losing season and we still don’t know what we have with Richardson . Irsay will need to fire Ballard, Bradley and the entire defensive coaching staff. Not a good forecast for our Team
    • Which is why I blame irsay. We reach this point year after year. It’s injuries. It’s not being able to stop the opposition when the colts need a punt. Or offense stalls out when we need 30 yards for a field goal. At what point do you say this isn’t working irsay?
