Texan's Weeden Looking The Best In OTAs

The Houston QB merry-go-round continues as yesterday on a weekly Houston Texans show they said Weeden is looking like the #1 guy as of now. Looking at the QB history for the Colts  the Texans are the exact opposite with no guarantees anything will change.

I'm sure we will see a mixture of them this season. There's no way they don't start DeShaun Watson at some point.

That has me a little nervous.  I don't know how well he'll do as a rookie, but I think he has what it takes to be a solid quarterback in the NFL.  Give him a couple of years to develop and adjust to the NFL game and I think he could give us some headaches.

wait, how is this surprising or news?  a veteran QB and former starter looks better than a rookie in his 1st OTA....shocker of the century

Have you ever seen Weeden play? Also there is a guy named Savage that is expected to get the job, based on what I'm not sure.

With the Texans defense Watson or any QB should not be required to rack up a bunch of points so that plays in to it also. The Texans were in a win-it-all-now mode last season and will be again this season so time will tell but O'Brien needs to win the big one very soon - like this year.

I think O'Brien has exceeded expectations.  I don't think this is a make-or-break year for him.  And I think it would be silly to give him a tight leash.  Let O'Brien work with Watson and develop him for a few years

To give Weeden the respect that goes with the title of typical veteran QB/former starter is a little unwarranted.  31 TDs to 30 INTs over his career, <60% completion for his career, career QB rating of 76.0.  Sure, he's technically a veteran and former starter, but he isn't really that good.

I agree but I'm saying the buzz in Houston is O'Brien will not want to stay if they don't go to the SB. To me, that makes no sense as they have enjoyed success without a shadow of a quarterback and this year will not be much different. It would be sad to see him go if he does.

I wouldn't get too excited that the best QB they have is Weeden.

Huge advantage a vet QB has from a mentality standpoint over a rookie.  It was unlikely that Watson was going to come into OTA's and look better then Weeden.

That said I look for Watson to capture the starting job in training camp.

If they do that then they are stupid.  O'Brien has done well with some extremely pedestrian QB'ing.  I mean consider that O'Brien won the AFC south and took the Texans to the playoffs with Brock Osweiller as his quarterback and JJ Watt on IR.

And maybe the Colts can hire O'Brien if Pagano goes.

I don't often disagree with you 21, but I do here.  I think the past decade or so has taught us, that if you draft a college QB who has issues with accuracy, vision and decision making, in a few years you will have an NFL QB that has issues with accuracy, vision and decision making.

I get that.  I wasn't enamoured with any of the quarterbacks in the class.  But with how Watson played against Alabama both times, I think he has what it takes.  It'll take a year or two of grooming, but I think he has the work ethic and dedication to improve.  When the game is on the line, he plays great football.  So there's a lot to work with.  Give him an offensive-minded head coach and give him time to develop.  I think he could be solid.  At the very least, I think he could be an Alex Smith type.  Focus on short passes, play efficiently, won't blow you away with his stats, but can be called upon to win some games.
