Fleener's Helmet (merge)

Am I crazy or does Fleener have a different helmet than everyone else on the team?  It looks like he has some sort of cut out section on the crown of his helmet while everyone else has a fully solid helmet.  Anyone know what makes his helmet different than everyone elses? Initially I was thinking it is some sort of concussion protection, but I don't recall Fleener having any past concussion history and wonder why everyone else on the team wouldn't wear that helmet if it was better suited to prevent concussions...

Players wear whatever helmet they want, so long as it's approved by the NFL. There are tons of helmet designs that claim to offer better protection against head injuries, so it wouldn't surprise me if Fleener's does also.

There are all kinds of helmets.  The two weirdest ones I've seen are Welker and Eli Manning

Eli looks like a space alien to me.

It's to allow the air to pass through the helmet and push down on the hair in the back therefore by acting as a spoiler like sports cars have. Except it doesn't seem to be working

That hexagon-ish thing on the front is probably for shock absorption and the holes are for ventilation, as far as I can tell.

Whoops didn't notice this previous thread.  I wonder if there is any evidence to show one helmet as being better then the other at preventing concussions?

 

Because if there is you would think the NFL and the players would be all over that.
