Should mathis have a sack fumble?

It was a fumble...then the QBs arm went forward without control of the ball and he slung the ball forward with his forearm. That can't be a legal pass. You can't throw a loose ball and you can't can't kick one either but the difference is kicking a loose ball is a foul if it was intentional. That kick remains a fumble and is still live for recovery by either team.  Anyway, Smith's fumble resulted in a fumble recovery, although the term recovery implies it hit the ground.  There is no category for catching fumbles in the air.  If so, it would either be a fumble catch or fumble interception. So, I'd say Mathis should be awarded a sack because a fumble created behind the line by hitting the QB is a sack unless the ball is recovered beyond the line and that couldn't be a sack because the team maintained possession beyond the line. I believe a fumble recovery beyond the line in this case, by the D, would result in a sack. Does this clear it up?
