I'd take this mock draft all day

Recommended Posts

Found this one today.  http://www.rantsports.com/nfl/2013/11/14/2014-nfl-draft-indianapolis-colts-early-seven-round-mock/

The 7th rounder could be a toss up or a gamble but I'd like those first 4 picks.  Wayne's eventual replacement, a starting guard to go along with Donald Thomas and Alex Mack (Really hope we sign him) next year.  We would also get a starting ILB in Bullough and a potential starter at DE and a replacement for Redding.  I'd take this draft in a heartbeat.

Bullough can't cover gonna need an athletic ILB. Smallwood or A.J Johnson would be better options.

You won't find a top ILB in the 5th round.   You get what you get.

The question becomes....  do you want to use a premium pick on a non-premium position like ILB?

Personally,  I don't want to.

I'd be fine with Bullough in the 5th.

Seems like a very good mock draft....   it's not what I'd personally like....   but all in all, if the draft was over, and those were the players we got,  I'd be fine with it....

I agree. I'd have no problem taking a mlb with a high pick. I'd absolutely have spent a first on a guy like Luke kuechly.

Yeah, it's a shame we had to use our 1st round pick on that Luck guy.

I like either Borland or Perryman, Smallwood I like somewhat but I have concerns about him adjusting and making plays in space

You question Smallwood's play in space, but you like Borland?  I can't figure out how that makes any sense...

That's like saying I like Jordan Matthews,  I like Sammy Watkins somewhat but I question his speed.  Borland is the one you need to question in that department.

Just fooling around on first-pick.com, came up with this:

Round 3 Pick 8 (MINN): Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU (A)
Round 3 Pick 24: Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut (A)
Round 4 Pick 3 (JAX): Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State (B+)
Round 4 Pick 8 (MINN): Keith McGill, CB, Utah (B)
Round 4 Pick 21 (JAX): Denzel Perryman, OLB, Miami (Fla.) (B+)
Round 5 Pick 24: Deandre Coleman, DT, California ©
Round 6 Pick 26 (N.E.): Cassius Marsh, DE, UCLA (E)
Round 7 Pick 21: LaDarius Perkins, RB, Mississippi State (C-)
Round 7 Pick 26 (N.E.): Demetrius Wright, FS, Southern California (D-)

If we got both Landry and Smallwood, I would have a fit...and a good one.

I don't think either will be there in the third.

Me either...I wouldn't be surprised if they were both gone by the 25th pick in the second.

Obviously I didn't mean I would have taken Kuechly over Luck.  :neener:    I meant I would have gladly spent a 1st round pick on a MLB the caliber of Kuechly.  Though to be honest, if I'd had my way in that draft we would have traded back out of the first spot to #4 for Cleveland's entire draft and then traded back one more time and either take Kuechly or the best OL available and drafted Nick Foles a little later. ;)

You would not draft Luck...I'd run and hide if I were you...this forum is about to explode with hate mail.

No I would not have...and many here already know that.  I had quite a few debates about it with several members in the months leading up to the draft.  I didn't see Luck as being as head and shoulders ahead of the other QB's as most did.

Would much rather see this..

Borland wouldn't be an every down ILB, and doesn't have the speed to cover.  I think a lot of people here are overrating Borland to a significant degree.

Let us wait to see how Rogers and Whalen do before looking for another WR

While I think there is a chance Whalen could solidify a spot as one of our receivers, I don't think his presence will factor in to us looking for Reggie's replacement  ... he's never going to be a #1 IMO

May I ask why Griff can't be a #1 WR?

IMO, Griff can be a #1 WR.  Speed is not needed, but explosiveness out of cuts. Consistency catching the ball. Seperation, even when double teamed is what makes a good #1 WR.

I guess I depends on how you want to determine what constitutes a "#1 WR"

To me a #1 WR is someone who is a game changer, someone who demands special attention or double coverage, usually (but not always) the player has at least one or more outstanding physical attributes (size, speed, etc).  When I think of #1 WR's I think Calvin, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Fitz,  Andre Johnson, etc ...

Whalen falls more into the "reliable security blanket", shifty slot receiver type IMO ... good reliable hands, smart;  but often nothing physically exceptional about them, important cogs that help keep the chains moving, but probably not a guy who is going to get hot and carry you to a victory.  Even the guys like Welker, Amendola, Cobb, etc ... who are at the top in this role (and we can only hope Whalen reaches their level), I would not classify as #1 WRs.

I guess everyone may have a different idea of what being a #1 WR entails, but IMO Whalen's skill set, physical traits, & how he plays is not what I think of when I think "#1 WR".

Ask your self this, is Reggie a #1 WR?  If you say yes, then Griff has the ability to be one as well.

Speed is not essential for a #1 WR.  Good hands, explosiveness out of breaks (cuts) and beating double coverage.

If Rogers continues to play well, he could be Reggie's replacement.  If not Grii will do.

We have speed in Hilton and Brazill, so our #1 does not need it.

Wow, you are really high on Griff Whalen. I think he has the chance to be a decent player for us, but I am thinking his ceiling is more along the lines of Collie w/o the concussions.

I am not sure what I would classify Reggie as, definitely not your prototypical "#1 WR" anymore, since he has gotten older, and his role & his play has been somewhat adjusted it's hard to put a label on exactly what he is now.  His skill, experience, and connection to Luck have him putting up big numbers and definitely made him an integral part of the Colts' offense. I would almost classify him more like wes welker on patriots ... even though their playing styles are not the same, their roles, importance, and connection to their QB are very similar.  I also would not classify Patriots Wes Welker as a "#1 WR".

With that being said comparing Griff Whalen to Reggie Wayne is blasphemy.  I would say the chances are slim to none that Whalen is ever even half as good as Reggie.

I am sure there is some astronomical chance Griff Whalen becomes a #1 WR, but I wouldn't hold my breath or bet any money on it.

I am and that is funny as I was against getting him.

I'm old school, and have been watching football for a long time.  Reggie, Griff, Welker and others like them are classic #1 WR, while Megatron, Andre Johnson AJ Green are the style of player that are replacing them.

Why is it blasphemy for comparing them.  They are both Colts and are similar in their play.
