Castonzo Starting, Mcclendon Benched

I like Castanzo in there + he will still have plenty of time to learn and grow before the season starts. Was listening to the radio awhile back and apparently he's a really smart guy so his ability to be a quick learner and a studious player might allow him to transition more smoothly and quickly than your typical offensive linemen.

Not sure about Pollack on the other hand though & disappointed about McClendon. I keep hearing how this guy is a hulk and his strength is unbelievable. Hopefully he can still be solid.

Thought he was better than pollack for sure, also , offense had ball to little to judge by 1 game

True, i think it was way to early to remove him im guessing they are just trying something out cause i didnt see anything in the game that showed he deserved that of course im not a coach so idk. I wonder what they are gonna do with Ben

That depth chart is gonna change numerous times before the season starts, and possibly during the season as well. Castanzo, Ijalana, and Saturday will definitely be starters when it's all said and done, IMO. I'd like to see McClendon step up and earn a permanent starting spot. I'm projecting the opening day starting O-line to be: LT-Castanzo, LG-McClendon, C-Saturday, RG-Ijalana, RT-Diem

I do have to say he does have that, or baby Huey the cartoon character. I don't think there no other way to put bad criticize on the table with it sound demeaning. It could go form you sucks, you really back all the way to Steven Hawkins make a better lineman then you do and he in a chair.

past reports have indicated that Bill Polian does not intend to use Ben Ijalana at guard,

Tom James of CBSSports.com Rapid Reports, learned that Caldwell is not opposed to the idea. Caldwell stated, “We have to look at our guys and figure out who are best five are to put out there on the field.”

Funny story here. I went to camp last year and took a football hoping to snag some autographs. I got Mathis' and Johnson's autographs, and was trying to get Clark's as well. As I stood at the fence with Clark on my right, I was looking at him and paying attention to him. From my left, unbeknownst to me, came Pollak. Dallas was near and I had my ball outstretched, when I noticed Pollak making a grab for it. I immediately pulled it back. I didn't want him on my ball when I had good players already on there.

He didn't look too thrilled, but I didn't care... mike freaking pollak wasn't going on my ball with Mathis and Johnson and potentially Clark. I didn't end up getting Clark's autograph, and maybe that was karma for letting pollak know he wasn't welcome on my ball.

But you know what?

That's fine with me. I'll gladly sacrifice a Clark autograph (I have an autographed card of his, anyhow) to keep mike pollak from putting his John Hancock next to Robert Mathis'.

There were also a few people walking by who chimed in with a "You suck, pollak!"

Awww, poor Pollack. You know that had to hurt his feelings at least a little bit.

I always envisioned Pollack as Saturdays eventual replacement since they drafted him. The guy never played any other position in college or high school and his coach said he was a pure center before the draft. Then when the Colts resigned Saturday a year later I think they thought, well we invested a high pick in this guy we need to get him on the field... Oh lets try guard. Not saying he hasn't been wildly inconsistent but he is playing out of his 'natural' position. He didn't do terrible at center against the Rams.

As for McClendon I thought he did pretty well too. They may be mixing and matching the line during the preseason and see what the best combo looks like. McClendon provided a nice cut back lane for one of DB's runs against starters so they may have something with him.

I fully expected Costanzo to start especially after watching Linkenbach in training camp. Preseason is a perfect time for him to get some much needed reps and to get beat a few times, which is bound to happen, doesn't matter how high the draft pick is. The best part is if, I mean when he gets beat its Painter getting hammered instead of Peyton. ;)

Nope... Nope... Appearently you didn't hear... pollak is actually a good player, and the rest of us are just * without a village.

See?

Now, football is that one where they bounce the ball on the grass and try to hit it into a goal with a stick while some other guy tries to catch in his glove while the rest ride around on horses, right? I really don't understand football, see... Maybe a pure-bred genius can explain it all to me...

Oh, if only I could find one....

lol i dont know if i could do that one, thats just basically asking for it right there. I doubt the colts will release him though he adds depth plus his original position was center so maybe when saturday is gone they will try him at that? who knows.

Well in all fairness to Caldwell-Bill isnt the top honcho anymore so i say whatever works out works... I would rather see him at RT though.

Yep. i sure did miss out getting Mathis' autograph and not pollak's.

I could have made a killing on e-bay with an authentic pollak autograph, let me tell you....

Did you make a killing with your authentic Mathis autograph?

I went to camp one year, bought a football and got signatures from Manning, Clark, Harrison, James, Rhodes, Pollard, Vanderjagt, Coach Moore, Freeney and some CB that didn't make it out of camp. The CBs signature did not devalue the ball at all.

And none of that negates the fact that you and several people at camp do not understand football.

Actually it was for my one year old son. I'm sure when he grows up he'll thank me for not having to look at it and say "Dad, who the heck is mike pollak?" and to see me struggle to make up some story about how he was some player worthy of an autograph. You are aware that just because I don't want a no-name on my ball doesn't mean you have to get a bad case of butthurt over it, right? But since you seem to have, you'll need to fill out the "Butthurt Report Form" found here:

Butthurt Report Form

I struggle to understand how you know so much about football when your head is lodged so far up your own rear. Quite the phenomenon...

The idea that some of the people one this board hate pollack is not new. There always somebody on some other team that their fans end up hating. Since Wide Right no longer plays football. Pollack got the short end of the stick. Half or most of us agree Pollack sucks and then while the other minority does not like the opinion it funny they try to blast at us saying we don't know what we are talking about and we don't know football. Since when did this become if you don't like certain player you don't know jack about football? Maybe is the front office is just being blind seeing what we are seeing, or that Polian is stubborn (Yeah since when is ever Polian ever stubborn)

Pollak is still young (only 26!), and is showing promise in a lot of areas. I think that in five years or so, a line of Costanzo, McClendon, Kirkpatrick, Pollack, Ilalana is going to terrorize people.

On a side note, if Mr. Waylon does not want Mike's autograph, that's his matter. If Mike goes on to turn out to be a pro bowl caliber player one day, he may regret it. There is no reason to fly off the handle about the subject. Mike is a big boy, and I'm sure he can take a little rejection.

MOST OF US FANS ARE STILL ROOTING FOR YOU MIKE!

Sounds like the Colts are playing with the line which is what the pre-season is for. There is also a report that Link was playing RT this morning and Diem was at right guard. Sounds to me like the Colts are trying to get physically bigger up front which I am for.

Hmm why not Ben instead of Link? hopefully that does work. Tbh with all this going on it doesnt sound to me that the colts are all too confident in peytons return for the first reg game or at least him coming out shooting. They seem to be trying desperately to fix the line and adding depth on defense. it all sounds good to me.

    • Again, I’m not saying a good D isn’t needed…well, maybe I am….  But what I’m really saying is that with a great Offensive you can win with an average Defense.   And, as to your point, I think all the teams that lost in those games you mentioned all had very good defenses.
    • Personally I think Thomas got pressed into playing before his time. He did a few things we didn't expect initially considering his draft position. I think ideally they wanted to take their time and train him up sorta like EJ Speed then get him out there.  I'm interested to see how he regroups to be honest.
    • How bout this? Draft better and u build a play off caliber team. Ain't rocket science.
    • Look im not gonna say Ballard haven't had his own issues, but the guy has been put in an impossible position particularly every year.   2017 - He has a lame duck for a head coach when we all knew was gonna get fired and was drafting for his scheme so I'll give him a pass.   2018 - Arguably his best draft getting two All-pros and a stalwart at RT. He gets to sign his choice of a head coach and is left at the alter at the 11th hour which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise. Drafted Tyquan Lewis, Hines, and Franklin who all have or had great years here. Andrew Luck was back and playing like an MVP.   2019 - Horrible draft. No excuses. It was his worst draft as a GM, but he did find a gem in Speed. Luck retiring a week before the season starts would put any GM in a tough spot so once again I'll give him a pass.   2020 - His second best draft getting Pittman, Taylor, and Blackmon. Signed Rivers and traded for Buckner and won 11 games. Unfortunately lost to the Bills in the playoffs.   2021 - I honestly can't tell for certain what happened in terms of QB. Ive heard Rivers was supposed to re-sign, but choice to retire. I've heard he was pushed to retirement as the colts wanted to go in a different direction which was apparently Stafford before the Rams came in last second. I heard Reich pushed hard for Wentz saying he can fix him against the wishes of Ballard. If you ask me, I think Stafford was plan A as Stafford himself said him and his wife were so convinced he was going to Indy that they started looking at homes. When that fell through, imo Reich lobbied for Wentz. Whatever it was, Wentz was the guy and the QB carousal was supposedly stopped at least we thought. A god-like season for Taylor was not enough to save Wentz from ultimately being traded and you can chalk that one on whomever Reich or Ballard depending on what story you want to believe. In terms of the draft, Paye and Dayo have been reliable players on the dline, Granson you can make an argument is our best TE, and Fries came into his own last year.   2022 - Just an overall disaster of a season. Went the bandage route again at QB trading for Matt Ryan and you can say the colts did him no favors in terms of oline protection and JT getting hurt, but that was a failed trade for a miserable season. 2022 draft is still under elevation, but Pierce and Woods did show potential as rookies and Raimann looks to be the LT of the future.   2023 - Ballard finally gets to draft a QB to tether him to and Richardson plays a grand total of 12 quarters. It just seems like Ballard can not catch a break when it comes to QBs, but from I've seen from Richardson, I have very high expectations.
    • Hi Colts fans,   Yeah, I know, I know.  I was just as surprised as you were.  No clue why my good friend Jim Irsay would call me up and offer me the head coaching job.  I had to remind him.  Dude, I said, you do know that I've never coached at all at the NFL level.  Not coordinator.  Not even position coach.  Nothing.  It didn't seem to matter.  It was as if all that was required was for me to be good friends with the owner, and -- bazinga! -- I could be a head coach.   It was awkward, you know.  That first coaches meeting.  There was Gus Bradley.  And there was John Fox.  Both of them had been head coaches.  Heck, both of them had coached in a Super Bowl!  Yet here I was, promoted to be their boss, having never coached before.  Ever.   But, you know, Bud Grant did it.  So, why not?  Remember, I have a way of doing things.   Ok, sorry, I couldn't help but giggle.  I have a way of doing... what, exactly?  Things?  Things like coaching?  I have a way of coaching?  And how did I develop that way?  By actually, you know, coaching?   Anyway, I'm glad you have a new head coach.  One who has actually coached before.  And his experience doing that is bearing fruit.  I'm just glad I'm already in the Ring of Honor.  Because after what happened, I doubt that I would ever be accepted in by the fans, regardless of how I was as a player.  Heck, they would have put Andrew Luck in before they would even consider me.   In the meantime, I'm back at ESPN, attempting to "un-burn" bridges.  It can happen.  I heard Bud Grant did that once....   Regards, Jeff Saturday
