Green Bay Packers training camp attendance

You have to keep in mind that the Packers are pretty much the only thing in Green Bay. Their population is only a touch over 104,000 people. Lambeau Field is the biggest building in the city and their main source of city income. I don't think they have a building in the city over 8 or 10 stories tall. Not that that is a negative thing but it is what it is.

That's pretty wild. If only the Colts used their stadium, may bring in a lot more fans. Anderson University is pretty small. I think 5,000 people pretty much maxes out the benches. lol

I've always been somewhat curious why more people don't go to training camp.

Granted it's not a game, but all you have to do is drop a small amount for parking and you get to see your favorite players practice.

The only thing I will say is that practice in a stadium seems like it would be somewhat restrictive.

Would using the stadium be worth the expense to open it for a crowd to watch practice? Some people wouldn't go just because of the expense and hassling with the downtown traffic. Parking during the week is not easy with everyone parking for work. There is no charge for watching practice and someone would have to pay all the people like stadium staff, security, etc..etc..

It probably wouldn't be worth it, but who knows really. The main reason is probably because they want the whole team in one area with no travel. Being in Anderson makes it super easy for everybody. They pick you up in a golf cart right outside the dorm building and take you to the field. I could see it being a huge PITA if it were moved to downtown Indianapolis.

So in a city of 104, 000 men, women, and children, 66,400 show up for family night in NFL pre season?  64% of the city population? Wow!

OK, I see the actual tri couinty metro area has over 300k people.  Still, very impressive!  I'll bet some die hards from Milwaukee, Madison, Eau Claire, and others etc... drove on up as well.

True, but when your the only game in town you get all the attention. Most NFL cities have basketball. hockey, concert venues and a lot have soccer now. Up in that area of the country they have very little competition for fans to share. Plus the Packers are the only team in the NFL who are actually owned by the people and not one person. That in itself could contribute why they are so popular there.

I find it very boring....unless there is a scrimmage going on.  Then again I have attention problems.....too many things going on at once for me.

It's not something I would do either but it's cool we have so many fans that do and I love the updates here. The only thing that has really been important to me is the Regular Season+Playoffs. I have never been to a Pre-Season game either and have lived here in Indianapolis my whole life. I have been to over 30 Regular Season games, probably close to 40 since the 1984 Season and 1 Playoff Game. Most of them have I went too is after Peyton got Drafted. I am going to enjoy watching Sunday's game against the Pack coming up though, just to see how we look early.

i'm 51..I can see going with friends just to do something together but not going because I was interested to be be with 50,000 other freaks that think it meant something to go.

wow, lets watch a bunch of guys run and jump around! lol

I went to a Packers practice in 1977/78 and got James Lofton's rookie autograph.

that was maybe a couple hundred people watching them practice.

I was 13 and  two things stood out to me that I never forgot.

when you are eye/ground level and a punter punts the ball, its as though the ball is a rocket or balloon  and seems to sail as though it has a life of its own.

this was 1977 and they were practicing catching  10 yard bullet passes, with one hand, with no gloves and no stickem and not dropping a majority of them.
