It was mid August 2010, in a preseason game against the Jets. Calvin Pace's made Eli bloody. I think he changed his helmet because this new one wouldn't have touched his stitches, so he was able to keep playing. Then, I assume, he got comfortable with it and just stuck with it

So, now the ruling is as long as he gets down by contact, even if the ball comes out first before he hits the ground it's not a fumble?
