Cornerback's possible in draft

Recommended Posts

Some players I like that are possible at various points in the draft. What are your opinions?

CORNERBACK
1. Kendall Fuller - VT - man cover - knee injury - rd 1late/early2
2. Mackenzie Alexander - Clemson , man cover - rd1/early 2
3. Desmond King - Iowa - rd2/3 - off man/zone corner
4. Will Likely - rd7 - small but man cover corner great athlete
5. Eli Lee - Ohio St. - 6rd
6. Probably already gone before our pick.  Vernon Hargreaves rd1, Jalen Ramsey rd1
7. Don't forget we have 3 rookie CB's on IR now. (2 Drafted and 1 UDFA)

I would like to see a man cover corner selected in rd2. Depending on where we draft there should be a starter in round 2. I personally like Fuller and maybe his injury will cause him to fall to us.

I think Vernon Hargreaves is still a possibility for the Colts. There is a real shot he could fall to them since I believe Jalen Ramsey will be drafted before him. Hargreaves would come in and immediately start opposite Davis and eventually would become the #1 CB on the team, thus lightening the load for Davis. Having two very good CBs would create more time for the front seven to get to the opposing QB.

What 2 drafted cb do we have? I know smith just got back on IR but who else?

We don't we have Josh Mitchell and Tevin Mitchel both off waivers.  The only CB we drafted is Smith. We need to draft a CB. This draft is full of good ones.

I like Hargreaves and Alexander in the 1st. King and Tankersley in the 2nd. Russell Sutton Redman in the 3rd.

If Russell and Sutton stay in the 3rd that's our best bargain IMO. I really like Russell. He's supposed to run a 4.3 40. Plays the run strong. I think he's a steal in the 3rd.

I'd like to see corner in round 3.

Remember,  we have two bigger priorities than corner in this draft.     Pass rush/OLB,  and OT.

I'm fine spending a 2 on a right tackle.    I think we can find a good one picking where we will.

3rd round -- next priority -- cornerback.     We'll likely be picking 80th or so....   I hope we can find another solid corner at that spot.

We will be able to get a CB in the 3rd for sure. This is a deep draft for DB's. I like S Joseph in the 4th.

CB is pretty important. We don't have a guy who can play outside. We can't bring Toler back.

In my opinion the biggest needs on D are #1 pass rush from OLB and DL would be a bonus. #2 CB

Then on O #1 is C by a mile #2 RG I still hold some hope for Thorton but we can't count on him to stay healthy. Maybe we have something in Heenan who knows.

I hope we address C in FA. Holmes and Louis should not be on the roster next year.

Why is OT such a concern? Castonzo will play better. I thought Reitz had a good year and showed he can hold down RT. I'm comfortable running those 2 out there.

We give Good another year to see what he can become. If we are looking for a starter I would make a run at Schwartz in Cleveland.

I think having a pro level C will do wonders for the O Line. After watching Holmes and Harrison I think we have forgotten what a C looks like.

I'd also like a C....   I just don't want it from the draft.    I don't want a rookie at that all important spot.

So, I'd like to invest in one in FA.    I'm fine with Holmes on the roster next year as the back-up.   I think he's good when he plays,  but doesn't play enough.   Perhaps he'll be better as a back-up?

We might even need a RG in FA depending on how the new administration feels about Thornton.   I've been interested in Schwartz for a number of years.   Not sure why we haven't shown more interest in him?

As for RT,  the current front office and coaches prefer Reitz as a Jack of All Trades, super 6th man sub OL.  A guy who can play most any position in any game,  and not one who plays only one spot for 16 games.   Perhaps the new administration will feel different.    But, I'd like to keep Reitz in his swing man roll and draft a RT in the 2nd round.     1st Round OLB,  3rd R a corner,  4th round a DL and the 5th round a safety.

All defense except for the 2nd R offensive lineman (whatever spot he is...)

I'd also like another corner in FA.    Yes, we can not bring back Toler.   He's the most injury prone corner I've ever seen.    3 years is enough.

I think within a few weeks we're going to be seeing a LOT more draft rankings.   And the final date for people to declare for the draft is Jan.18.     After that, hopefully better days ahead!

We can get a good young corner in free agency. Sean Smith, Jenkins, Amukamara, etc. I love Ramsey and Hargreaves if we go this route tough. And I'd say we'd be within reach of one. Probably Hargreaves. My biggest concern is finding a pass rusher who can put consistent pressure on the QB and put up double digit sacks. Then after that CB, OL, and ILB.

    • He seems like he was a college player that may have been thrust into a starting role because of natural gifts, perhaps without full immersion into the programs.  He improved his accuracy at least a little bit in the short time he received NFL coaching, so maybe with attention to S&C, he'll make some noticeable jumps in that area too.
    • Amazing how MPJ had a season that helped him solidify a huge bag and Downs had a really good rookie season that has everyone excited for next season, yet Minshew is somehow responsible for holding back Pierce.   Pierce is not an elite athlete (at least by NFL WR standards). He's not a good route runner. He doesn't win his routes often (#124 in the NFL last year in route win rate). He struggles to separate. What about AP says "great upside"?    With the Colts drafting a WR in R2 who can offer a similar skillset...and likely more...the writing is on the wall that they are looking for more upside than just effort and blocking at WR2.
    • AR even admitted he wasn't fully ready for the speed and power of NFL players. So I would think strength and conditioning is going to be a huge priority this summer.   Not to get all doom and gloom, but I hope he's not one of those guys who gets hurt all the time. Between his Sr year of HS and 4 games into his NFL career, he has at least suffered two AC sprains, a torn meniscus and multiple concussions. That might not seem too bad, until you realize it doesn't even encompass 30 starts at QB. That's less than two full seasons in the NFL. And if a player had that many injuries across 2-3 years in the NFL, I think people would view him differently than they do AR.   But that said, it's prob just as likely he ends up like Stafford and this is a just a bump in the road to a long career.
    • Pierce had most snaps as a WR in the league and Pittman was fourth. Hopefully fewer snaps will keep them fresher. They are both great blockers so the other guys are going to have to show the ability to block to win those snaps.
