It is not unusual for a player to ask for an injury settlement paycheck and be released form his team and IR if he feels he can rehab and get game ready sometime before the end of the year.  That way he can sign with someone in need and play.  If Colts kept him on IR, he would be paid, but have NO chance play this year.  I wish him well in rehab and making a team and a little extra dough befroe the season is completed.  He is a great guy, as well. I beleive he would have beat out one or both newbie safeties for a roster spot; if fully healthy.  it appears he was not.
