Bleacher Report's Matt Millers full 7-round Mock draft 2/3/14

Recommended Posts

Skov is frequently mentioned as a draft possibility ... I am not a big fan personally; the reason he won't be like Kuechly is because I do not believe he has Kuechly's coverage ability.  IMO Skov will be a liability in coverage, I think if we are determined to take a ILB 2-3 I would rather have Smallwood or Jones.

Kuechly isn't great in coverage, but he does have range that Skov doesn't.

I agree coverage isn't Kuechly's strength, but he is competent in the area and is not a liability that is going to be picked on.  I think Skov would be a liability in coverage, and actually be a frequently targeted mismatch by DCs.

How does everyone feel about Chris Borland from Wisconsin?  In all the talk of Smallwood, Skov, and others, Borland was good in coverage, from a base 3-4, very productive, write ups always mention his intelligence, effort, etc.  His size concerns me, but I like him more than Skov or Smallwood.

Some really like him, I think he's questionable. I'd prefer Smallwood.

I love Chris Borland. WalterFootball.com has him mocked as our 2nd round pick and Ed Stinson as our 3rd round pick. (DE from Alabama)... Borland is a true beast in runstopping and a nice hitter with a high motor, his ability to cover however, I am not quite sure of. every highlight ive seen of him is him making tackles in the backfield or stopping the run. from what ive seen, I like him. Ed Stinson however I am unsure of I haven't seen highlights of him. Yawin Smallwood V.S. Chris Borland V.S. Shayne Skov is really a personal opinion for everyone. The colts need a linebacker who can cover, rush the passer, and stop the run. a balanced one. I think smallwood is the most balanced, while Skov is a big hitting run stopper. Vhris Borland from what ive seen is a nice hitter, a great run stopper, cn=an get in the backfield, but I just haven't seen him cover. Just my two cents.

Like you said, I think Smallwood is the more balanced of the three, and has the potential to turn into a true every down backer who can be a big time playmaker.

Chris Borland is good against the run, he finds the ball carrier, and he uses his hands well to get off blockers.

I doubt we take a receiver, at least early, after the Nicks signing. I am lukewarm on Davante Adams as well.

Gabe Jackson in the 3rd round would be a steal! I am just not sure he fits the mold of what we are looking for in a guard. Jackson seems a lot like Larry Warford from Kentucky last year. It appears from what I have read that we are looking for more athletic guards.

The 3rd day picks don't really excite me much.

I don't think that's the best part of Kuechly's game, but he is more than competent at it and not a liability in coverage.  IMO Skov would actually be a liability that would be targeted/picked on in coverage.

If we go WR in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, I'd like Jordan Matthews or Donte Moncrief

If we go CB in the 2nd our 3rd rounds, I like Keith McGill and Bashaud Breeland

If we go ILB in the 2nd or 3rd, I like Skov followed by Smallwood.  I think Skov is a little better in coverage than he's being given credit for.  Not that he'll ever be mistaken for a coverage specialist Nickel LB or anything, but I think we'd be ok on those occasions when he's not able to be subbed out.  Later round prospects I liked were Preston Brown and Max Bullough.

I also like Marcus Smith > Kyle Van Noy > Jeremiah Attouchu.  I do think Smith and Van Noy would be more versatile than Attouchu but Attouchu looked like a nice edge rusher.
