Can we catch a ball?

I haven't had a chance to watch any Indy game this year except the Seahawks game so I can't really comment about how this compared to normal - but there is absolutely no doubt if those balls were caught it's a different game.  It wasn't sure wasn't our pass D stopping your pass game.

Luck was cool under pressure, made some great throws and guys got wide open (our CBs are spotty at best).

On the flip side, we didn't make mistakes tonight, we controlled the ball and our run game showed up.  It was a good, hard fought game.

PS go take Denver apart next week, okay?!!!!

I couldn't be a coach, I'd bench jerry rice himself for the rest of the game. If you flat-out drop a pass on 3rd and 9 when we're down, I'd rather put in a backup who can catch. It was disgusting watching Reggie on the sideline, just sitting there. You're losing! Look at some pictures!!! Discuss with your qb what you can do to change this! Come on, I know Reggie is better than that.

Fleener really has disappointed me. I've always defended him, but no more. It's put up or shut up.

Richardson, please catch the ball. Yes, even the nice soft floaters.

DHB... Why is he out there again?

DHB should be a fourth string or practice squad WR. And yes Fleener has had lots of drops in his short career here with only a few receptions and a couple TD's, big disappointment. OL still didn't make space for a running game either. Missed tackles on D and every receiver missed catches tonight. IDK what happened, looks like they just threw this game away from the beginning. Worst performance I've seen in a while.

It was a pretty strange game IMO. Wayne is normally the clutch go to guy but tonight he dropped that key 3rd down. Fleener is usually 50/50 so his big drop wasn't a shock. DHB hasn't caught much this year. Luck certainly has to do a lot to make up for errors like this and more often than not he can but tonight there was just way too much that went wrong in all phases. I am on an island by myself when I say that we can beat Denver next week. They will correct their mistakes.

You guys had your bad game this week like we had ours last week against Oakland - timing was off, everyone was just not quite in synch.  I'm rooting for you to pull it together and pull off the upset.  I loved Peyton, until he came into our division - he was why I was a Colts' fan.  But when he put on that ugly orange uniform all bets were off, LOL!

I've never been more disappointed with a WR then i am with DHB, this guy absolutely sucks. Donnie Avery looked like a Pro Bowler compared to him. I don't care if he can block but if he can't catch he needs to be benched. Brazil made some great catches vs the Lions and Patriots last year, he's a better WR then DHB and he needs to start.

Guess there was a reason he was available. I am more concerned with Fleener,s performance's just doesnt seem to have the strength needed to play in the NFL not to mention the inconsistent hands.

This is the silliest comment I have ever heard. ..

Pro means "professional" ..    Top shelf...    You and your little offspring wound never even get the CALL.

The NFL is a brutal business.      Survival of the fittest.   And BEST.

Millions of dollars to play a sport.

Pay these people the same wages anyone else would make. My children can catch a ball for free.

I am right there with you on this..

I DO NOT GET WHAT THEY SEE IN THIS GUY?    Starting over TY is comical.

I don't know..  when the team wins..       the coach's do EVERYTHING right..    I bet a loss next week will get TY's boo boo on the field in front of Darius Dead Hands..

No one has defended Fleener more then i have but i can't anymore, the guy is scared of contact. Cordy Glenn and Janoris Jenkins were both on the board and were ranked higher but we took Fleener because he had "chemistry" with Luck. I'm not too concerned long term because Allen is a much better player and a future star.

He was spectacular in college..

In the NFL ..  he can't catch anything..

And he is a 4,5 speed type.. and Indy NEVER runs him up the seam?  Why?

It is always little dinks or dunks..

Oh well ..

Contact had nothing to do with that drop. He was alone. He just took his focus off the ball and started to turn upfield. That's what his no no was.

He wants to let the ball "come to him" ..   he is afraid to catch it with his hands.   Which is what EVERY Pro WR coach will tell a TE or WR..  catch the ball with your HANDS.

He has LOST all his confidence.      I fear this dude is done..

And the big one he dropped was a simple pitch and CATCH.    and he let it hit him;in the shoulder pad if I recall?

This is sad, Fleener has the best ability of anyone on the team and he is folding like a cheap tent.

He was thinking about getting hit, loss concentration that's why he dropped it. Dwayne Allen would have caught that with one hand and ran it in the end zone.

The Fleener drop at the end of the half and the Reggie Wayne drop on third downs really killed them.

If I'm the coach, I'm getting on all of their cases and making sure that crap never happens again. It's what seperates this unit from the elite units: consistency.

Thats flimsy logic at best. He was running downfield. He could see the defenders. He knew he was alone. Contact wasn't on his mind.

He tried to make his next move without securing the ball. That's why he dropped it.

Sad but true.  Fleener is just a guy.  The signs were there last year that maybe the guy just wasn't very good.  I  have been very critical of him for 2 years and the fact is the guy is a mediocre tight end at best.  That drop tonight was horrid.  Easily the worst of all the drops outside of maybe Richardsons.  Even on the catches he does make if you watch him it's like he pauses right after he catches it almost as if he is afraid he is about to get drilled.

I think that is mostly true, but there was a safety at the 15 running toward Fleener that might have been in Fleeners peripheral vision.  I certainly hope not, and it was just focus, but I'm totally not certain it was.

if defence was bad why we have a chance too tye in the 4 quarter . it  was all on the offence because  no td,s and just 3 punts. defence suck would been 21 point win for sd. defence on the field 38:31 . tired still in the game. 8 drop pass,s

If he's worrying about guys who EVENTUALLY get to him, he needs to just hang it up now. I don't think it was the case on that drop though.

Just my opinion.

Fleener, Wayne, Hilton, Richarson, and ..  I'm sure someone else..  hehhe..    they ALL DROPPED BALLS.

Just a horrific night in Southern California.

It will get better.    This team is not done.     but the D is alarming.

worst offence game so far nfl about passing then setup the run win you have leads . colts trying run first and nfl teams are seeing that so their rdy for it. in this game no passing  so you lose the game. this is not college pep Hamilton.

that's utter nonsense.  Fleener always reaches out to try to catch with his hands.  the only one that has to let the ball come into his body is DHB.  Fleener's drop tonight...he was reaching out to make the catch with his hands.  Like House said, he simply turned his head upfield a split second too soon.  Every single WR and TE, even the all time greats, have done that from time to time.  I'm not excusing it but it's not like Fleener has been dropping passes all season.  and this "he's afraid of contact" rhetoric is nonsense as well.

    • I'm not saying he is about to be a sack machine but you can see some of his potential as a one gap penetrator with that frame.
    • Davis came from Alabama. My point of interest as the writer highlighted is he is moving from being a 2 gapper into now only being responsible for a single gap with a lot more penetration from him versus read and react. With his length and power at 6ft 7 300 plus the expectation for him in our scheme is he will be more disruptive. A much more reliable option for us if Grover goes down in addition to whatever else maybe we can do with him.
    • Thank you. You guys are too kind, but I truly appreciate the support.    Perhaps I am being too hard on myself… But my point still stands that anyone who makes it to the NFL, whether practice squad or starter, has achieved something prestigious that only a rare few ever achieve.    Over a million high schoolers play. Of those only 7.8 percent move on to play in college.    Over 80,000 people play in college. Only 0.4 percent make it to opening day in the NFL.    Only 2,016 players make it to NFL rosters.
    • Davis had a very good rookie season after being drafted in the 2nd round out of Ohio State (I believe).   Graded in the 70’s against both the run and pass.      But his last three years have been disappointing, as he’s graded in the mid-50’s.   The reason I’m so interested in this signing, is (A) I’m sure it was heavily influenced by the new DL coach, Partridge.   And (B) we’re paying him 2/14.  I don’t recall that kind of money ever being given to a basic backup before.   Don’t think Davis is here to push Stewart, the Colts just signed him to 3/39.  That tells me the Colts defensive staff sees him differently.   I don’t know what the plan the staff has come up with for Davis, but I’m looking forward to watching it play out.
