NFL.com has already posted it's "Power Rankings" for the 2013 NFL season.

 

Is it TOO early to judge teams for the upcoming season ??

Nah.

You NEVER know what's going to happen so if you're waiting until you do, you're just never going to make a prediction.

We know enough about teams and players to make an educated guess at who will be good and who will be bad.

At the very least, its simply fun to make predictions and it doesn't do anyone any harm.

Of course it is, a sports season rarely goes exactly how everyone expects it will go.  

 

But sitting on your hands waiting for the season to start isn't very fun so we make guesses at these things and then debate them.  Gives us something to do until football starts.

Since the polls are meaningless unless you're going for a BCS bowl game, why not judge teams early?

Perception doesn't matter in the NFL.

I remember the polls last year and I was thinking to myself... "We are at least a middle of the pack team"

 

Lo and behold my expectations were met and more! We have one heck of a team from the front office all the way down to Mr. Irrelevant.

I have no problem ranking teams right now. It's pretty straight forward. Most of it is based off of last year with a few dark horse cinderella teams mixed in for good measure. Rankings are like one liners to an attractive woman in a public setting. A person rarely gets to 1st base with them, let alone out of the dugout. There mean absolutely nothing.

Power polls are based on how they finished the previous season, and maybe mixed in with how some analyst thinks we did in the draft and FA.

I hate that NFL.com gave us a draft rating of C+. 5th lowest grade in the league. Unbelievable...

Yes.  Could not take in players aquired in FA or Draft.

Yes most teams are still trying to learn rookies names let alone how well they can play or not.
